Goo wants competition for places

Welton S&SC assistant boss Lee Coupland has warned his players not to rest on their laurels and is set to bring in new players to increase competition.

The Socialites are gearing up for the new season following their successful defence of the Kelly Read Cup last season and Coupland has said he intends to give the players that were responsible for last season's success a chance to continue the club's momentum.

Yet he is also seeking new blood and said: "The majority of the squad that were here last season are still here but we are going to bring new signings in, so no one will be assured of a place.

"I think every professional footballer realises that they've got to have competition.

"We have a squad for injuries but also for loss of form, so it keeps people on their toes and it pushes people. We've got some momentum here so hopefully we can carry that on and bring more silverware to Social Park this season."
