Carter praises Social supporters

Will Carter praised the part played by the welton fans after the Socialites registered their epic 4-3 victory over Ivy Tavern in the Ron Eaglen Cup.
The Socialites, who knocked Magnet Tavern out of the County Cup a month ago, claimed another notable scalp thanks to Matt O Hallorans hat trick and sam Allmond at the weekend.

Much was made in the build-up to the match about the responsibility of both players and fans to show restraint in the first meeting between the two sides since their stormy league encounter in November.

"I thought the Welton fans were superb on Sunday," Carter told ITV1.

"They never let us down and they played against Ivy. They pushed us through.

"They realised we were very tired after blowing a 3-0 lead, but when they're pushing they suck goals in, and I think they sucked Matt’s goal in on Sunday."

Carter conceded, however, that Ivy had dominated much of the game before O’Halloran struck the winner in the 80th minute.

"We've got to give Ivy credit," he said.

"They controlled large parts of the game but the most important thing was the result and we got there in the end.

“The support they gave us really helped us and I’m sure that our supporters will be out in force this weekend for the County Cup Semi Final.”

“We could easily have capitulated at the weekend after losing a three goal lead but our supporters drove us on and we will need them at the weekend against Tap & Spile.”

Matchwinner O’Halloran echoed Carter’s view that Ivy had perhaps been unfortunate to find themselves on the end of a defeat, but said the result was a sign of Welton’s progress this season.

"We proved that we can dig deep when we have to," said O’Halloran.

“You can’t win every game comfortably and games like last weekend are far more satisfying than winning 8-3 every week.”

“This Weekend will be very similar to last, It will be tight and chances will be few and far between and our supporters can really make a difference.” Welton supporters could be the twelth man this weekend against Tap & Spile

Taylor breaks deadline day silence

Welton S&SC have finally broken their silence on transfer deadline day with manager Al Taylor stressing there will be no transfers in or out of the Social Park club before the window closes this evening.
"There is no-one going in or out of the club before the transfer window [closes]," he said. "There is nothing happening here."

"I don't read the papers so I don't know [about speculation]. "We have covered what we have to say. We don't need to justify what people are speculating about do we."

"I've seen the reporters outside the Park gates all day but you are all wasting your time."

“We’ve got a fantastic squad and we don’t need to add to it.”

“We’ve got ourselves into a fantastic position this season with the players that are already here and we believe in them to bring us success at the end of the season.”

Matt dreaming of trophy glory

Matt O Halloran wants to win his first medals at Welton this season, declaring the Socialites should fear no-one after their wins over Ivy Tavern and Magnet Tavern in recent weeks.
Al Taylor’s side were 3-0 up against Ivy however, a rousing comeback by Ivy threatened to send the Socialites tumbling out of the competition they have reached the final of in three of the last four seasons until O Halloran struck his brilliant winner with ten minutes remaining.

O Halloran says that his side are hitting top form at the right time and hopes to make a Cup final in his debut season for the Socialites.

He said: "I would like to look back on my career at the trophies I have won. We have a great chance. This is a competition that we can win.

"A couple of big teams have gone out and, if we can show the character we have shown against Ivy and Magnet Tavern, hopefully we can beat anybody now."

“We know that we have it in our locker to go out and win games like we did against Golden Eagle the other Week but it’s games like this that make the difference.” Said the former Oldham Athletic man.

“Having lost a three goal lead a lot of teams would have gone on to lose that game but we showed our bottle and did enough in the end.”

Welton now have another fortnight of Cup matches to look forward to including this Weekends County Cup Semi Final against Tap and Spile.

“It’s been difficult in the last couple of weeks knowing that the Semi final of the county Cup is only a couple of weeks away.”

“It’s a game we have all been looking forward to but we have been professional and put it to one side and won some tough fixtures recently.”

“It’s a massive game this Sunday, It’s games like this that made me want to come to Welton S&SC and hopefully we can get another positive result.”

SuperMOH saves the day

The tie of the round in the Ron Eaglen Cup certainly lived up to it’s billing on Sunday morning as Welton S&SC edged past Ivy Tavern in a thrilling encounter between the two Premier League powerhouses. Welton raced into the lead with 3 goals in 7 first half minutes, There were two goals for Matt O Halloran and a Sam Allmond header that appeared to have the Socialites cruising into the quarter finals only for the Ivy to pull two back before half time and set up a tense second half.

Ivy drew level 15 minutes into the second half through Jamie Chesman’s spectacular own goal but the Socialites eventually rallied and Matt O Halloran hammered home a free kick from the edge of the area with ten minutes to go to make it 4-3 and in the process sent the huge visiting support into raptures and send the Socialites through to face Metheringham in the quarter finals.

Welton once again named an unchanged side for the third Week in a row but the side that had put CW Golden Eagle to the sword the previous Weekend were immediately on the back foot as Ivy stormed out of the traps.

Welton withstood some early pressure and started to play their way into the game with some neat football.

With the Ivy having marginally the better of the opening stages it was the Socialites who struck first on the quarter of an hour mark to knock the wind out of Ivy’s sails.

An Ivy attack was broken up and played forward to Matt O Halloran 30 yards out from goal, O Halloran hit the bouncing ball first time with his left foot and lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper beautifully to give Welton a spectacular lead and crush the Ivy’s morale after they had made a positive start.

The opening goal visibly shook the Ivy defence and the Welton players smelt blood in the water and moved further in front.

Matt O Halloran turned provider this time whipping in a left wing corner to the near post where Sam Allmond had stolen a yard on his marker and clinically headed home from six yards out.

The Ivy defence were in disarray now and Welton further hammered home their advantage when Matt O Halloran fizzed a deep set piece into the near post. O Hallorans goal bound effort deflected in off Ivy defender Gav Bowler and beat the keeper at his near post to completely stun the home supporters who now found themselves three goals down within the space of 7 minutes.

The Socialites were in complete control now but much like O Hallorans opening goal coming against the run of play, Ivy did the same and grabbed a lifeline when Sean Cann headed home a right wing cross from Finn Lynch to give Ivy a glimmer of hope.

This goal fired up the Ivy players and straight from the Welton kick off Referee Steve Fisher appeared set to blow for a foul on Scott Coupland before removing the whistle from his mouth and letting Ivy play on, The Ivy broke down their left wing and a cross was eventually floated in, flicked on to the back post and headed in to send the home fans wild and send the sides in at half time with the score at a pulsating 3-2 to Welton.

HALF TIME: Ivy Tavern 2-3 Welton S&SC

Both sides returned unchanged for the second half with the Socialites looking more assured at the back than they did in the closing stages of the first half but Ivy were back on level terms on the hour mark.

A long clearance forward looked to be fairly comfortable for either Leigh Warman to clear or Jamie Chesman to pass back to the keeper, An awkward bounce and a slight clip on the heel lead to the ball looping up off Chesman’s boot from 30 yards out back towards McGann, Time appeared to stand still for a moment as the ball lifted agonisingly over McGann and nestled in the net to send the home fans absolutely wild.

Having squandered a seemingly untouchable three goal cushion this really was going to be a true test of Welton’s spirit and determination as all the momentum was with the Ivy.

Unsatisfied with the way the game was transpiring the Welton management team made a double substitution bringing on Jason Tinkler and Billy Munro in place of Craig Cosgrove and Jamie chesman with Luke Clifford dropping back to left back.

The second half really could have gone either way with both sides creating half chances and at one point Scott Coupland was denied what appeared to be a legitimate penalty claim it was going to take a moment of magic to decide this thrilling encounter.

A right wing cross into Scott Coupland drew a foul from centre back Bowler and as soon as referee Fisher blew for the free kick there was a sense that the all important moment had arrived with Ivy forward Sean Cann seemingly resigned to the fact that Matt O Halloran was going to score.

Sure enough Welton’s prayers were answered as O Halloran curled a blockbuster of a strike round the wall and into the top right hand corner of the Ivy net to once again give Welton the lead, After huge celebrations infront of an army of Social Supporters only one question now remained, Could Welton hold on.

Ivy once again rolled up their sleeves and through everything forward at Welton but their attacks were finally met with stiff resistance from the Welton defence, Ivy pushed hard and forced a couple of late corners but Welton were able to deal with the threat and held on for another memorable 4-3 win at Sudbrooke drive against a gritty Ivy side.

The Socialites keep their momentum going as they now turn their attention to next Weeks County Cup Semi Final against Tap and Spile with Metheringham lying in wait the Week after in the Ron Eaglen quarter finals.

Taylor glad of Cup commitments

Al Taylor believes Weltons extraordinary Cup commitments this season have helped them find their form.
The Socialites face Ivy Tavern at Sudbrooke Drive on Sunday morning with a place in the quarter finals beckoning.

The Scot credits the additional playing time given to his players by their run to the latter stages of three Cup competitions for his outfit's impressive league campaign, with Welton currently lying second in the Premier League.

"I think the amount of football we've played this season has helped in terms of gelling the group together," Taylor told Sky Sports News.

"With teams dropping out of the League wholesale I think the extra games have helped us get to know each other better on the pitch."

“If you look at Victory now for example, due to the likes of Adelaide and Moorlands and now Swan dropping out of the League they only have 3 games left for the rest of the season which is ridiculous as we’re not even in February yet."

"that highlights how important extra games in the Cups are as we could potentially have 9 more matches in the Cups including the next two weeks.”

“People talk a lot about our fixture congestion later on in the season not helping us but we wouldn’t want it any other way.”

Cosgrove: I needed a goal

Craig Cosgrove responded to his critics after an influential display in Welton’s vital Premier League win over high flying CW Golden Eagle.
Cosgrove has been an influential player in Welton’s star-studded attack since this Season but has struggled to find the back of the net in recent Weeks.

And while the main talking point from Welton’s 8-3 victory over Eagle centred on the actions of Billy Munro, the former Cherry Man feels he made a point by striking two superb Goals.

The 24-year-old said: "This goal is what I needed after everyone was talking.
"I needed this to show everyone I can score the Goals that a number 9 should score.

"I want to perform well and show everyone what I can do.

"My team mates gave me a couple of brilliant balls and I felt I tok my goals well and I was happy."

Cosgrove told Social TV: "It was the kind of game that everyone wants to play.

"It was a crazy game with the wind. I think everyone loved with this game.

"It was a good result for us and we are happy with our performance, But we will have to raise our game at the weekend when we play Ivy Tavern.”

Silly Billy

Welton forward Billy Munro will learn later this Week what action is to be taken against him for refusing to come off the bench in Weltons 8-3 mauling of CW Golden Eagle at the weekend instead opting to go and sleep in the car for the entire second half to try and battle through what he described as the worst hangover he has ever had.Social supporters were stunned to see Munro heading back to the car park at half time.

Welton’s Management team had hoped to give Munro who has just returned from injury a decent run out in the second half so that he is fit and firing ready for the Socialites mouth watering Cup programme in the next couple of Weeks but Munro was no where to be seen for the entire second half.

After the game Munro returned to the changing rooms at the Cowpaddle to reveal that he had been asleep in his car and he was completely oblivious to the final score of the crucial League game.

Welton Manager Al Taylor refused to let the controversy surrounding Munro take the gloss off a good team performance.

“I’d rather talk about the game.” Said Taylor

“It’s your job to ask me questions about Billy and what may or may not have gone on but we have just won a game in horrendous conditions by 8 goals to 3 and that is more important to me.”

“I will say that we would have Loved to have got Billy on in the second half as he is a great Player and we need him to be at his best as we have some huge games coming up.”

“We will deal with the matter internally.”

“There’s so many positives we can take from this Game we don’t want to dwell on a minor incident like that.”

Eagle blown away by rampant Social

Welton S&SC returned to League action with a bang on Sunday thrashing CW Golden Eagle 8-3 at a windswept Cowpaddle. Luke Clifford lead the scorers with a scintillating hat trick, Scott Coupland and Craig Cosgrove both bagged a brace and Jason Tinkler chipped in with one to ensure that the Socialites first League game in over two Months was a win to keep them hot on the heels of FSC Victory.

Welton named an unchanged line up from the side that beat Magnet Tavern with Jason Tinkler replacing Jack McGovern on the bench in Welton’s only change.

Welton kicked with the gale force wind in the first half and took the lead 5 minutes in when Luke Clifford carried through with his pre game threat of “I’m going to shoot from anywhere with this wind.” With great effect.

The Left footed powerhouse left his marker for dead and unleashed what would have been a fairly hefty drive on a normal day but with the wind behind it the keeper barely even saw it as the ball crashed off the underside of the bar and in to give Welton the early initiative.

Welton didn’t rest on their lead though and continued to pile forward looking to take full advantage of the ridiculously strong wind that was blowing them forward.

After squandering a couple of golden opportunities much to the annoyance of assistant Manager Lee Coupland, It was again Clifford who took it upon himself to double the lead.

Scott Coupland was sent through one on one with the keeper he opted to square the ball to Matt O’Halloran but unfortunately Coupland miscued and sent O Halloran wide allowing Eagle to get bodies back to cover. O Halloran kept the ball alive and played it back to Luke Clifford who cut in on to his right foot and fired in low through a crowd of players.

Despite drawing the rage of his Brother for his earlier miss Coupland made amends on the half hour mark when Sam Allmond fed the ball in to him inside the Eagle penalty area, Coupland teased his man into a challenge before knocking the ball past him and lashing home a left footed shot again giving the keeper no chance what so ever.

Welton hammered home their advantage on the stroke of half time, Will Carter jogged half way across the entire Cowpaddle to retrieve the ball for a throw in deep in the Eagle half, Carter would eventually play the ball in to the feet of Craig Cosgrove who turned a couple of Men on the edge of the area and worked enough space to get off a left footed shot that beat the keeper all ends up low to his left.

HALF TIME: CW Golden Eagle 0-4 Welton S&SC

For all Welton’s dominance of the first half, The second half was clearly going to be a completely different game as the true scale of the windy conditions hit Welton for the first time.

Eagle pulled a goal back 5 minutes into the second half when their veteran centre forward picked the ball up 25 yards out and fired a ferocious shot past McGann to give the Eagle a glimmer of hope.

Welton’s response was superb though and they went straight up the other end and restored their 4 goal cushion.

Craig Cosgrove dropped deep to pick up the ball in midfield before playing a wonderful through ball to Luke Clifford who curled the ball round the on rushing keeper with the outside of his left foot to complete a brilliant hat trick.

Back came eagle though to again cut Welton’s lead when their left back blasted home another powerful wind assisted drive from distance to make it 5-2

This goal seemed to stun Welton back into life and a double substitution saw Jason Tinkler and Olly Furness come on to replace Clifford and O’Halloran.

Jason Tinkler and Scott Coupland combined down the left for Coupland to send Tinkler racing down on goal. Tinkler who hadn’t played for over a month exquisitely chipped over the advancing keeper to give the tricky winger a 100% strike rate in his new boots.

Tinkler and Coupland again combined for Welton’s seventh. Coupland again was bareing down on the keeper opted to square to Tinkler who instead of shooting squared back to Coupland who blasted home past two Eagle defenders covering on the line from 8 yards out.

Welton were the architects of their own downfall for Eagle’s third goal when a combination of Tinkler, Coupland, Carter and Furness contrived to spurn a great chance, The Eagle defence eventually punted the ball forward over the top to their centre forward who lobbed the ball over the top of McGann.

Craig Cosgrove completed the rowt after he beat the Eagle offside trap before coolly rounding the keeper and tapping home with his left foot into the empty net.

A brief yet welcome return to League action for Welton who return to Cup action in the next fortnight with massive games against Ivy Tavern in the Ron Eaglen and Tap and Spile in the County Cup Semi Final.

Welton defender Ross Taylor knows his fight for a first-team place will continue despite earning a surprise recall last weekend.
The veteran full-back lost his position in the side because of injury at the start of the Season and has found breaking back into the starting eleven difficult largely due to the excellent form of Jamie Chesman.

Over the last two months Welton have established a solid back four Week in Week out.
However, there have been no complaints from the Paisley born Scot lad who has been at the club since he was at primary school, making his debut more than 10 years go.

"The lads are playing well. Of course you want to play and the manager wouldn't expect anything else," said the Scot, who has made 684 appearances for the Socialites.

"When I have been playing over the years and doing well someone else has had to sit on the bench for me.

"The roles have reversed now and you have to show respect to the manager, the club and the players playing in my position. I appreciate that.

"The club have done a lot for me over the years.

“There are other Lads in a similar situation to me like Billy (Munro) who was on fire at the start of the Season but he also got injured and has had to start from the bench a couple of times but the Manager will rotate the strikers to keep everyone happy.

"I am not going to say anything or cause any trouble just because I am not playing. You have got to be professional and wait for your chance. When it comes, you have got to do as well as you can."

"I have been out the side for a while and understandably so; the lads in my position and the whole team have been doing great. It’s just nice to put the Blue and white shirt on and play at Social Park when my chances come along.

"It is something that I have wanted to do since I was 18 and nothing has changed now I'm in my 30’s.

AT: We have to believe in title tilt

Al Taylor feels belief will be key to whether Welton S&SC can last the distance in the Premier League title race.
The Socialites return to League action against CW Golden Eagle at the Weekend having not played a League game for almost 2 Months due to a combination of Cup fixtures, freezing weather and the festive period.

The Socialites go in to the fixture with confidence having disposed of one of the top sides in the County in Magnet Tavern in their last game a result that Al Taylor described as one of the best results of his tenure at Social Park.

It is a far cry from when Welton got their campaign off to a shaky start losing to FSC Victory followed by draws with Scothern and Hykeham.

Since then Welton have won every game, advancing to the semi finals of the County Cup and the latter stages of the Ron Eaglen and Kelly Read Cups.

"We have improved this year, we are stronger. It is just that belief," Taylor said. "We have to believe we can do it and have that belief that we can keep challenging.

"I am not going to say 'We are going to win the league' as it is going to be very difficult - just look at FSC Victory’s squad, they have fantastic players and can make changes everywhere. Their forward players are incredible.

"Nobby [Victory boss Sir Peter Noble] will look at it and say 'They are going well, they are playing well'. He is not disrespectful to write us off completely.

"It will be difficult for us to finish above them or CW Golden Eagle, but you just never know do you?

"If we get a Cup again we would be delighted here. That is what we really wanted to do this year, anything above would be great."

Taylor insists he was never short of confidence that things would improve once the likes of midfielder Matt O Halloran and Luke Clifford returned.

"We were one or two players short and there was a feeling around the club that it was a difficult period, that first couple of weeks," Taylor said.

"The belief that the County Cup run has brought have made a difference to everybody."

With the transfer rumour mill now in full swing, Taylor has found himself linked with moves for several players.

However, he insisted he is not "desperate" to sign any fresh faces this month just for the sake of it.

"We have good players like Olly (Furness) and [Billy] Munro who are starting on the bench at the minute, so to take another player and not have hthese lads playing is a waste of time," Taylor added.

"The January window drives you mad. You get phone calls from agents without a clue, offering you useless players.

"If you do happen to answer by mistake, you would say 'We are in the Premier League, not the third Division. You are ringing the wrong manager'. It is unreal."

Taylor heaped praise on this weekends opposition saying that they are a wonderful footballing side.

“They’ve come up from Division 1 and are more than holding their own in this Division, They’ve got some great players and they play some good football.”

“Every game we have at the minute is huge and this game will not be taken lightly just because it is not a Cup game and if we don’t win we aren’t knocked out.”

“Realistically we have to win every game in the League to stand any chance of challenging.”

Sharp reaction from Joel

A sensational bust up between Welton Sports assistant Manager Andrew Wilkinson and pint sized youngster Joel Sharp has put a host of top Premier League Clubs on red alert.

The bust up began when Sharp texted in on Sunday morning saying he was to ill to play in the Sportsman’s Ron Eaglen Cup game at CW Golden Eagle.

Wilkinson reacted furiously and accused the midfield trickster of cowering away from the fixture due to the sub zero temperatures on Sunday morning.

An angry Sharp retaliated in an interview with wsscfc.blogspot.com saying that Wilkinson was out of order to suggest that he didn’t want to play because of the weather.

“It is out of order to suggest that I didn’t want to play because of the weather.”

“I’ve been to the Doctors this morning and I’ve got a note to prove that I am not at 100%.”

“For him to say that I would have let the side down due to the weather is a complete deformation of my character.”

“It is questioning my manhood to suggest that I don’t like cold weather.”

Division 2 minnows Dunholme FC have already tested Welton’s resolve with an offer to take the tricky midfielder on loan until the end of the season with a view to making the move permanent in the Summer but the Sportsman are reluctant to sell one of their best Players to their fierce local rivals but Sharp says it could be the ideal way to resolve the problem.

“It could be the ideal way to solve the problem.”

“I’m happy in Welton and a move to Dunholme wouldn’t cause to much upheaval for me and my young family and then I could consider my long term future in the Summer.”

Ron Eaglen clashes touched by frost

Welton S&SC's and Welton Sports Ron Eaglen Cup matches were both postponed at the weekend along with virtually every other Game in the County as temperatures plumetted leaving the pitches at Sudbrooke Drive and The Cowpaddle unplayable.The tie of the round involving Welton S&SC and Ivy Tavern has been re arranged for the 29th of January when the Socialites were due to travel to Swan in the League,

The Socialites will be back in action next weekend in the League against Welton Sports Ron Eaglen opponents CW Golden Eagle.

Welton Sports trip to CW Golden Eagle has been put back to the 5th of February when Welton were meant to be travelling to Woodhall Spa.

Wong clash rescheduled

Welton S&SC's Premier League clash with Horncastle Town has been moved to Wednesday the 22nd of February with the game scheduled to kick off at 19:30 at the Wong Horncastle.

The Socialites were set to take on the Wongers on the 5th of February but the Socialites now face Tap and Spile in the County Cup Semi Final instead.

The Return fixture at Social Park has also been rescheduled to the 26th of February just 4 days after the Wong clash.

Drabble hits back at boo Boys

James Drabble has hit back at his critics saying that he is not a fair-weather player.
Some sections of the Welton Sports travelling support jeered Drabble as he was withdrawn with ten minutes to go at Dunholme last week chanting “You only play against the sh#t teams”

The fans anger was aimed at Drabble after it emerged that the prolific front man would not be available for The Sportsman’s Ron Eaglen Cup clash with CW Golden Eagle this weekend opting to work instead so that he could face North Scarle the week after.

“My work situation is not ideal.” Said Drabble

“But the Welton Sports supporters are fickle and to suggest that I pick and choose what games I play in and try and avoid tough teams is an absolute nonsense.”

“I’m available for the North Scarle game and they are no mugs, That is a massive game and I am available for that so what more do the supporters want.”

“I have proved throughout my career that I thrive on the big stage and I would suggest that some of the narrow minded Welton Sports fans remember that.”

“I’ve never been booed by my own supporters when I’ve been subbed before infact the Welton S&SC supporters who are more knowledgeable about football used to give euphoric cheers as I left the pitch.”

“I was really disappointed to hear the songs that the supporters were singing to me the other day at Dunholme.”

Taylor: Slate is wiped clean

Al Taylor insists Welton’s 4-3 win over Ivy Tavern will not have any bearing on the Socialites Ron Eaglen Cup match this weekend.

The Socialites return to Sudbrooke Drive on Sunday just a month after they departed having won 4-3 in a thrilling Premier League encounter infront of a massive crowd at Sudbrooke Drive.

“It was a great win for us in the League but that will not matter one jot this weekend because they will be well up for the game.”

“There was a big crowd there for the League game and they will have a huge following again this weekend, they are a great side and they raise there game even higher when a team like Welton is in town.”

“They knocked the holders out in the last round and they’ll fancy their chances again this weekend.”

"Our club is used to getting to semi-finals and finals and all we can do is give it our best this weekend against Ivy and see where it takes us.

With only the winner of the Welton versus Ivy game and potentially CW Golden Eagle as the only Premier League sides in the next round It makes the clash against Ivy - for whom the Ron Eaglen Cup is highest on their list of priorities - hugely significant as this is a tournament both Al Taylor and Dave Matthews targeted as one they could win.

“It’s the toughest possible draw either of us could have got and both ourselves and Ivy would probably rather have faced any of the other teams left in the draw, The other sides will be looking at this game and thinking as long as we avoid the winner of that game we have a great chance of making the final.”

Al backs Ches over red card

Welton S&SC Manager Al Taylor has backed Jamie Chesman in the row over his role in Magnet Tavern defender Jack Smith’s controversial red card.
Magnet Taverns management team claimed Chesman was to blame for the dismissal of Smith for foul and abusive language but Taylor says such appeals are now part of the game and that he was lucky to stay on the pitch as long as he did.

Taylor said: "I have no concerns about the behaviour in that respect because to my mind the ref had no choice but to send him off.

"I have no complaints about Ches, It probably was a foul by Chesy to get him so wound up but the Guy’s gone straight up to the ref and called him a c##t. “

"But I can understand where there Management are coming from because that's what happens with players today, they all appeal for penalties and when they don’t get them they are bound to be frustrated, it's an unfortunate part of our game."

Chesman himself said on Twitter: "Funny how people think i got Smith sent off. Im not ref. i didn't give red card. But it was a clear red card. Called him a c##t."

Taylor also said he was relishing a fight to the end of the season in the Socialites quest for honours.

He added: "We have a big challenge to win the League and we’re still going strong in all the Cups we entered.”

Welton centre back Joe Snookes has admitted he is grateful for another home draw in the Semi Final of the County Cup.
The socialites were rewarded with a clash at social Park against Tap and spile following their 3-o win over Magnet Tavern at the weekend.

Snookes told the club's official website: "We have to be pleased with another home tie.

"Tap and Spile are a top team and I wasn’t to worried about the draw because you have to accept that at this stage of the competition there’s going to be no easy games so all you can ask for is a home game. “

"It’ll be another battle like it was against Magnet but we're really looking forward to it and when the time comes will be really up for."

“We’ve got Ivy coming up now and we have to forget about the County Cup for a Month and concentrate on trying to get a result at Ivy which will be really difficult.”

Taylor: Social so professional

Welton S&SC boss Al Taylor watched his side turn in an "extremely professional" performance in their 3-0 County Cup win against Magnet Tavern.
Many thought a Welton win appeared unlikely at Social Park at the weekend due to the caliber of their opponents.

Welton turned in a stunning performance though and two penalties by Scott Coupland and a wonderful goal by Olly Furness meant that the Socialites deservedly booked their place in the Semi Finals against Tap and Spile.

And Taylor was delighted with his players' application.

"We treated this game with great respect, We knew Magnet were a great side, it is a fantastic tournament and we felt the players did us and themselves proud," he said.

"I thought Matt O Halloran helped us up the tempo of the game as we wanted to and we dealt with any forays they had going forward, we were extremely professional in that respect and we did not give them a look in until late in the second half despite them throwing everything at us throughout the second half.

"The pitch was a bit wobbly at times and our delivery into the box was not as good as we would have wanted but that is understandable.

"The players handled it very well, their were a lot of people watching because they thought we might be in trouble but we dealt with that. We weren’t complacent when we went 2 up and we defended for our lives.

“We’re reasonably happy with the Semi Final draw simply because we have been drawn at home, Some people would say avoiding seven Seas is a good thing but Tap and Spile have already beaten FSC Victory so it will be another massive test for us but it is one we are certainly looking forward to.”

The Scot is now turning his attentions to this Sundays massive Ron Eaglen Cup tie at Ivy Tavern.

"For the first part of this week we can be proud of our win over Magnet Tavern but then we have to apply ourselves in the same way as we did this Weekend for Ivy in the Ron Eaglen."

Welton’s reward for Sunday’s stunning 3-0 win against Magnet Tavern is a Semi Final clash against Grimsby based side Tap and Spile at Social Park on the 5th of February.Tap and Spile have already knocked out Lincoln Sunday League Champions FSC Victory and Victory Athletic on their way to the Semi Finals.

The two sides have met once before in 2006 where Welton ran out winners by 7 goals to 2 but both sides have changed greatly since that game.

Welton S&SC stormed into the Semi Finals of the County Cup with a magnificent 3-0 win over Spalding Champions and previous winners of the County Cup Magnet Tavern,

Two Scott Coupland Penalties either side of half time gave Welton a two goal lead before the Socilaites had to withstand a second half onslaught by a powerful Magnet side before Olly Furness brilliantly sealed the Socialites passage into the Semi finals where they will face either holders for the last two Years Seven seas, Tap and spile or Fox and Hounds Hykeham.

Welton lined up with Phil McGann in goal protected by his usual back four of Carter, Snookes, Warman and Chesman across the middle were Clifford, Stocks, O Halloran and Allmond with a strike force of Scott Coupland and Craig Cosgrove. Welton also had the luxury of naming a strong bench of Jack McGovern, Billy Munro, Olly Furness and Ross Taylor.

The Socialites kicked off attacking the Beck end and it was clear that they were up against tough opposition as the Magnet Tavern men in orange and black just about shaded possession and territory for the opening twenty minutes without ever really creating too many chances.

Challenges were flying in from both sides and Matt O Halloran seemed to be on the receiving end of most of the Magnet aggression with one foul on him going in on him that went unpunished as in the ref’s own words “It was so late I didn’t see it.” but Welton more than held their own.

The Socialites stuck to their task well and matched their powerful opponents and defended as if their lives depended on it and this allowed the Socialites to get a foothold in the game.

With chances at a premium for both sides the first goal would be crucial with both sides realising that they would be vulnerable to the counter attack should they have to chase an equaliser.

The crucial breakthrough was made in the 23rd minute when Magnet skipper Jack Smith tried to see the ball out for a goal kick, the defender should have been aware though that there is never a lost cause when Sam Allmond is on the pitch and the Welton winger nipped in to steal the ball away from Smith who hauled Allmond to the ground leaving the referee no choice but to point to the spot.

Up stepped talisman Scott Coupland who in the pre game warm up had said that he was dreading having a penalty after seeing the state of the crater like penalty spots. Undeterred though Coupland stepped up and stroked the ball to the keepers right in off the post to give the Socialites the lead and more importantly the belief that they could beat one of the bookies favourites to win the County Cup.

Magnet came back at Welton strongly and looked dangerous from set pieces as they piled their big defenders forward but they only really forced McGann into one save at his near post from open play.

HALF TIME: Welton S&SC 1-0 Magnet Tavern

Welton were praised for their efforts at half time but re-emerged knowing that they could ill afford one of their usual slow starts to the second half and they did not want to give Magnet any encouragement what so ever.

The Socialites got off to a dream start to the second half as they kicked off attacking the old wall end they were awarded another penalty with virtually their first attack of the half.

Luke Clifford’s long throw from the left caused confusion in the Magnet area and the loose ball appeared to be dropping kindly for Neil Stocks to hit on the half volley but a desperate challenge from a Magnet defender caught Stocks from behind and down went Stocks and once again the referee pointed to the spot.

Up stepped Coupland once again who out witted the Magnet keeper sending him the wrong way driving the ball the same way as his first penalty low in to the corner to give the Socialites a two goal cushion.

It really was backs to the wall stuff for Welton now as the Spalding based giants showed why they are such feared opponents by throwing absolutely everything at the Socialites.

The Socialites rear guard formed a blue and white wall in front of McGanns goal though and restricted the Magnet forwards to half chances that were easily dealt with by Phil McGann who was also having a faultless game.

The Welton Management rang the changes with 25 minutes left replacing Luke Clifford and Craig Cosgrove who had both run their brand new socks off with Billy Munro and Olly Furness.

This proved to be a masterstroke from Al Taylor as Munro picked up a clearance in his own half before turning his man and advancing into the Magnet half, Munro in his first appearance for nearly two months due to injury tricked and turned his way to the edge of the area before unleashing a rasping left footed strike that dipped and swerved over the Magnet keeper and rattled the underside of the cross bar, Welton kept the ball alive and it eventually fell to Olly Furness on the left hand side of the area, Furness calmly cut on to his right foot and curled a sumptuous strike across the keeper beating him all ends up before nestling in the far corner sending the John Stanham stand regulars wild.

Furness’s beautiful finish effectively sealed the tie for the Socialites and Neil Stocks was withdrawn to be replaced my Jack McGovern. There was still time for Magnet forward Lovelace to force a smart save from McGann and for the red mist to descend on Jack Smith who having already been booked for a blatant elbow on Luke Clifford was eventually sent off for foul and abusive language.

That proved to be the last action of the game and the Socialites are in the Semi Finals once again awaiting Monday mornings Semi Final draw in which they are joined by fellow Lincoln side Fox and Hounds Hykeham, Grimsby based Tap and Spile and winners for the last two Years and probably the team to avoid Seven Seas but not too many sides can say they have beaten Magnet Tavern 3-0 in the last couple of Years.

Welton Sports started the new year with a 6-1 emphatic win against lowly neighbours Dunholme FC to record their 12th straight victory in the league.

With four players missing through injury, FA cup (manc derby) and one player out with a FEVER!!! Welton Sports lined up with Mayhem in goal, meggy, danny and dave in a back three with connor, alex, ross, joel (in the hole) and a rare start for youngster steve smith on the right, leaving ronnie and jason up top. On bench was an array of youth and experience with moley (33), daly (48 ish) and youngster matt ward (17) bringing the average age down to about 30!

Welton started brightly and did not seem to be carrying too much turkey after the recent festive break, in fact jason barratt claimed before the game he had been running three times a week (only to be shot down by the lads claiming his running destination was the fridge!!).

The first quarter on an hour proved to be frustrating for Welton as they created chance after chance, but through some stout defending and some poor finishing (steve smith) the score remained 0-0. It was left to a great bit of individual skill from joel to carve open the Dunholme defence and slot the ball to ronnie who gladly smashed the ball low into the bottom right hand corner. Welton were now up and running and thought the flood gates would open, only to be pegged back minutes later by a brief lack of concentration at the back letting the Dunholme forward finish from 10 yards out.

Welton picked themselves up and set about replenishing their lead. It was again Joel who was looking Sharpe! who latched onto a deft flick from ronnie to slot home under the keeper's body. Two soon became three after a cynical foul just outside the box was expertly placed into the top right hand corner by leading scorer jason. Welton had the ball in the back of the net minutes later only to have it chalked off despite it clearly rippling the net and crossing the line. Welton went into half time 3-1 up and sensing there were more goals to come in the second half.

The second half started at the same tempo and it was not long before a cross found ronnie to flick onto the on rushing connor to volley home with his right peg making it 4-1. This goal signaled the changes as matt ward replaced steve who had put in a good shift and on another day could of had a hat-rick. Ward started showing his class with some marauding runs down the right flank and one raking 60 yard pass found connor unmarked who brought the ball down well but the keeper reacted well to deny him his second of the game.

Dunholme were starting to tire and a mix up from a goal kick combined with the alertness of jason lead to him helping himself to his second of the morning. With the game put to bed Welton made another sub with Connor coming off to give james mulhall some more minutes on his injury comeback. Within 5 minutes it was mulhall had the ball in the net from a goal mouth scramble, only to be wrongly robbed of his goal due to danny allegedly fouling the keeper.

With ten minutes to go veteran player/manager Mark Daly replaced Ronnie up top much to the delight off the traveling fans. The clock was ticking, but Jason still had time for a powerful run past the beleaguered defence to complete his hat-trick and notch his 15th league goal this season. The ref blew up to end the Dunholme misery and Welton go into next weeks tricky Ron Eaglen cup tie vs CW Golden Eagle brimming with confidence.

Welton Sports AFC striker James Drabble has shocked the runaway Division 2 leaders by claiming he may not play in Sunday's local derby against Dunholme in a desperate attempt to try and engineer a move to Welton S&SC's opponents Magnet Tavern.

"It has always been a dream of mine to play for Magnet Tavern." said Drabble Speaking to www.wsscfc.blogspot.com.

" This could be a once in a lifetime opportunity for me as it's not often that a team like Magnet Tavern visit Social Park and I feel as though I should maybe be there to do some keep up's and show them my skills on the sidelines."

"It would be a dream move for me."

Despite his admiration for Magnet Tavern Drabble believes that his former employers Welton S&SC are more than capable of progressing to the Semi Finals of the County Cup once again.

Drabble played a starring role in the Socialites journey to the 2009 County Cup final and the Welton Sports carthorse thinks that Sundays quarter final could be a classic.

"When we got to the final, we played some great sides and we often went into games as the underdogs."

"The spine of that team is still there you've still got players like Carter,Snookes, Warman, Chesman, Taylor, Stocks, Clifford and of course Scott Coupland who have made it to the County Cup final with Welton so theywill be looking forward to the game."

Stocks: No fear for Socialites

Welton stalwart Neil Stocks insists his side will not be going into this Weekends game against Magnet Tavern fearing them despite their formidable record over the last couple of Seasons.
Magnet Tavern have been imperious on home soil, maintaining a 100 per cent record in their own League and have tasted County Cup glory before.

Stcoks, whose team have not played for almost a Month, accepts it will be a hard challenge, but he is not writing off the prospect of securing a positive result.

"They are a fantastic side but so are we so we are not going to go change anything about the way we approach the game," explained Stocks. "It is all well and good saying they have loads of money but they have a good team.

"The money they have everyone else would love to have but unfortunately they don't.
"We will go and play whichever 11 they put on the pitch and it doesn't matter how much they cost.

"But we have the utmost respect for what they have done, we will respect and appreciate their ability.

"They are certainly a really difficult side to play against and we have our work cut out but we will work hard and fingers crossed we will come home with a result and get ourselves into the Semi Final’s once again."

Welton S&SC assistant Manager Lee Couplands insists his side are ready for their massive Cup double header against Ivy Tavern and this Weekends County Cup belter against Magnet Tavern despite not having a game for three Weeks.

Welton are notoriously sluggish after a prolonged period without a game but Coupland insists the Welton Management team have no worries about their Players fitness going into the County Cup Quarter Final.

“It’s not ideal.” Said Coupland

“We were on a real role before Christmas and it is vital that we pick up where we left off at the Weekend as we are up against in my opinion one of the top sides in the County.”

“The Lads haven’t played together for three Weeks but this is a massive occasion and the lads should need no motivating for a County Cup quarter final.”

“We have to start brightly as we are up against top class opposition so we will have to be switched on at the back as we are not expecting it to be easy to create chance after chance going forward.”

“If we are on our game though we are confident that we can get a positive result which is vital for our progression in this Cup and will give us some momentum going into the Ron Eaglen match against Ivy.”

No Escape for Victory!

Welton Sports continued their impressive start to the season clocking up a 3-0 home win against Victory, with 11 wins from 11 games Welton go into the festive period top of the table by 8 points with two games in hand.

Early preparations were back to normal this week with assistant manager Wilkinson at the ground especially early to make amends for last week. The squad was rotated again with Tom bowey away on a business trip to New York, although breaking news on Sunday pm from his agent seemed to suggest this was an elaborate cover in order to propose to long term wag Nina Sharpe. This rumour is yet to be confirmed as the player has not been in touch with the press office.

Jack frost looked like he was going to prevent another game from being played, but with Welton keen to continue their form and a sensible referee the game was given the go ahead, despite the Welton surface being frozen in parts.

With Andrew Wilkinson still trying to shake off a knee injury Welton set up 4-4-1-1 with Mayhem in goal, Phil, Danny, Dave and Connor making up the back four. Joel, lee, Ross and Alex in midfield with Jason in behind Ronnie up top. This left meggy, moley and the return of fans favourite Alex Jackson from injury and University.

The early stages were cagey as both teams tried to get used to the unpredictable surface, the usual flowing football was clearly going to be tricky today. Victory were obviously keen to make amends for the 5-1 drubbing they received on their own patch early in the season. Very few chances were created until a surging run from Joel was cut short when he was upended in the penalty box by the Victory defender. Up stepped Welton's goal machine Ronnie drabble to dispatch a confident penalty making it 6 goals in 8 games since his return from injury. This seemed to lift the spirits of the home crowd as they huddled to keep warm in the frankly Baltic conditions. Shortly before half time Phil pulled up with a hamstring injury (ironic as it is the only part of his body without a support!!) and was replaced by stalwart Meggy at right back. The half time whistle sounded with Welton sensing there was still more to come.

Victory continued to press, but never really looked like hurting Welton's solid defence. Around the hour mark, Ross Henderson launched a delap style throw into the Victory penalty box and with a cheeky back heeled volley Ronnie set up his strike partner Jason to head powerfully home for Welton's second. There are signs of a prolific partnership being formed and the rest of the league must be quaking in their boots.

Ten minutes later as Victory began to get frustrated a cynical foul just outside the right hand side of the penalty box gave Welton the opportunity to make it three and put the game out of sight. Connor whipped a lovely free kick towards the back post and Ronnie gladly headed home to take his tally to 7 in 8 games.

With Welton looking comfortable the management team decided to give Alex Jackson a run out in place of Ronnie who was still suffering the effects of a horrendous challenge by the Victory medical bag and training balls!!! it was nice to see the talented youngster back in a Welton shirt after recovering from injury.

One last sub saw the introduction James Mulhall (aka moley) to get his first minutes under his belt also after recovering from a dislocated knee cap. It was him that nearly added to the score line after the ball ran loose from a corner, he tried an audacious back heel which sadly ran inches past the post. On the positive side his knee felt good and hopes to be now challenging for a starting place again for the remainder of the season.

The final minutes were not without incident though as a clumsy challenge from Connor led to a penalty for Victory. The centre forward stepped up and smashed the ball to the keeper's left, but much to the joy of the Welton faithful mayhem got a strong hand to it and pushed it out for a corner. This confirmed Welton's no.1 had no plans to give up his 8th clean sheet of the season. The referee's whistle sounded to conclude a very fine 2011 for the Welton Sports as they sit top of the pile and still remain in both the Kelly Reed and Ron Eaglen Cups.

Title chances frozen out?

Welton Manager Al Taylor could not hide his frustration over the cancelation of Sundays crunch Premier League clash against FSC Victory and he fears that it could ultimatley cost his side the Premier League title.

The top of the table clash was postponed due to a frozen Cowpaddle pitch but Taylor feels as though the elements may have cost his side dearly with Victory missing many of their top attacking players.

“It was in our interest to play the game yesterday.” Said Taylor

“They were struggling with injuries etc and we felt that they were certainly their for the taking and they will now definitely have a stronger side out against us when the fixture is rearranged later in the season.”

“They had no interest in playing the game but to be fair the conditions weren’t good and every other game in the League was cancelled so we are not accusing anyone of underhand tactics.”

“We now unfortunately will go into the Magnet Tavern game having not played a game for three Weeks which is far from ideal.”

Clifford back to his best

Socialites winger Luke Clifford is delighted to have rediscovered the form that he had before he left for Australia but accepts that he has to be more consistent.Clifford impressed during Sundays Ron Eaglen Cup win at Jerusalem scoring a sensational hat trick and the Welton boss Al Taylor has branded him "back to his best".

"I'm enjoying getting back to what I do best," Clifford told the Welton News.

"The way we have played in the last few weeks has helped me and I'm certainly enjoying it.

"The gaffer was saying it was about getting back to what I was doing when I scored 43 goals two seasons ago.

"That's what I've been trying to do. The result was brilliant on Sunday and I enjoyed the way I played. I've now got to do that week-in, week-out."

Taylor: Money will sway Drabble

Ross Taylor has suggested former team mate James Drabble will join whichever club 'promises him the most money if as expected Welton Sports AFC opt to cash in on the journeyman centre forward as he struggles to shake off his traditional winter goal famine'.

Sports have already rejected a loan offer, with the option of a permanent deal, from North Scarle, while ambitious Division 6 Club FC Vodafone have also shown an interest.

Backed by Millions of pounds by sponsors Vodafone, FC Vodafone are reportedly prepared to offer Drabble a better salary than the deal which will be on offer at North Scarle.

Veteran Scottish defender Taylor is waiting to see who Drabble will join, but cast doubt on the prospect of the forward ending up at North Scarle.

"Looking back at his career, his agents and every move he has ever made, I think Ronnie (Drabble) will go where they can promise him the most money," Taylor told Radio Glenbogle.

Welton goalkeeper Phil Mcgann believes his side will take some stopping if they can emerge unscathed from the next two months.
The Socialites face a stern test this weekend in a must win game against FSC Victory that could either push Welton right back into the title race or eliminate them from it all together.

January appears even more imposing with the County Cup quarter final against a strong Magnet Tavern – and a Ron Eaglen Cup trip to Ivy Tavern.

McGann said: "We have done well after a slow start but the season is long.

"Now we have a massive game this weekend against Victory.

"I have said before the next two months will be important months.

"It is important in these months that we don't have players injured.

"If we don't have players injured I think we are strong enough to progress in both Cups and hopefully we will still be in with a chance in the League."

Welton’s only defeat this season was against Victory and McGann expects his team matesto rise to the challenge this weekend.

He said: "I think it is good to play this game, it is an important game against a top team.

"But if we want to win at the Cowpaddle against Victory we must play a strong game.

"I think we should do well like when we played against Ivy a couple of Weeks ago.

"Victory are a fantastic team. They have important players and are experienced."

Taylor expects Backlash

Al Taylor expects his Welton side to feel the backlash from FSC Victory’s Ron Eaglen Cup exit to Ivy Tavern.
Taylors Welton side will take on Victory at the Cowpaddle on Sunday in the aftermath of their elimination in a game that Taylor’s Welton side have to get something out of.

But Taylor believes Victory will respond in a positive fashion.

He said: "It may have an affect on the Premier League. It might make them better still in the Premier League as opposed to having to worry about any Cup competitions.

I would have thought that after the game on Sunday Peter Noble would have said 'we can't do anything about it, let's go and win the Premier League'.

"The more you dwell on it afterwards, there is nothing that can be done about it.

"It’s a massive game for both teams in terms of the League this Sunday and they’ll be looking at it knowing that if they beat us we basically can’t win the League.

“The fact that they lost last weekend makes no difference we know they will have all the big guns there and will want to get one hand back on the Premier League trophy.

Clifford does the trick for Welton

Welton S&SC moved into the last 16 of the Ron Eaglen Cup on Sunday morning with an entertaining 5-3 win at Premier League rivals FVA Jerusalem. A goal each for Scott Coupland and Jason Tinkler had been matched by efforts from Jonny Bell and Luke Forbes to send the sides in at half time level but a dazzling second half hat trick from Luke Clifford proved to be the difference between the sides as Welton edged through to face Ivy Tavern in the next round.

Welton made one change from last weekend as Joe Snookes was reinstated to the Welton back four in place of Ross Taylor.

Both sides struggled to play any decent football to start with in tricky blustery conditions but the Socialites created a couple of glorious chances and Jason Tinkler in particular was guilty of one of the misses not just of the season but perhaps the miss of all time after Scott Coupland squared the ball to his strike partner but somehow Tinkler contrived to miss the ball all together from two yards out.

Welton were made to pay for these early misses on the quarter of an hour mark when a loose ball fell kindly for Jerusalem on the edge of the area, Luke Forbes rolled the ball into Jonny Bell who turned and planted a right footed effort into the top corner giving McGann absolutely no chance.

Much like last week though Welton responded magnificently to going a goal down and soon gained parity when Jason Tinkler made amends for his earlier miss. Matt O Halloran found some space in the centre of the park and played through a wonderful through ball to Tinkler who chipped the ball over the advancing Schofield neatly with his left foot to make it 1-1.

Tinkler turned provider as Welton edged ahead in the 29th minute when he again burst onto a through ball to round Schofield before unselfishly squaring across to Scott Coupland to tap in from a couple of yards out.

As ever with Welton against Jerusalem though the game continued to see saw backwards and forwards as Jerusalem grabbed what appeared to be an unlikely equaliser when indecision in the Welton back line lead to Luke Forbes firing home a superb left foot volley from the edge of the area again leaving McGann no chance what so ever.

Playing into the wind seemed to play into Welton’s hands in the second period as the balls were holding up better for the Socialites rather than running straight through to the Jeru keeper and Jeru were experiencing similar problems to what the Socialites did in the first half with the Welton defence gobbling up any balls that were sent their way.

Welton created a couple of decent chances to re take the lead but it was left to Luke Clifford to drag his side out of the predicament they found themselves in.

Neil Stocks played the ball through the Jeru defence to Clifford who surged towards Schofield in the Jerusalem goal, Clifford rolled back the Years by thumping the ball low past Schofield from 25 yards out with a ferocious left footed strike.

The Powerful winger looked hungry for more and he was able to give his side a two goal cushion on 65 minutes when another ball over the top to him was dispatched expertly on the half volley with his left foot again this time shooting across goal and in off the post.

This goal was the cushion Welton needed and despite pleading with the Management team to be taken off Clifford still had time to complete his hat trick 5 minutes later when Will Carters ball forward was again latched onto by Clifford. Clifford rounded Jerusalem’s replacement goalkeeper and tucked the ball away to complete his first hat trick of the season.

That proved to be Cliffords last action of the game as he was withdrawn to a standing ovation from his Grandad but their was still time for Jerusalem to pull a goal back and ensure a slightly less comfortable last 5 minutes for Welton when Josh Schofield finished well after getting on the end of a long ball forward.

Welton Now move into the last 16 where the questionable Ron Eaglen Cup draw has thrown out another all Premier League tie away at Ivy Tavern who overcame holders FSC Victory.

Welton AFC Tame the Tigers!

Welton Afc secured their place in the second round of the Ron Eaglen cup after a difficult afternoon at Fen Lane. Eventually coming out 3-1 winners.

The day started badly when the Management duo turned up around 10:25am due to Andy's choice of route and oversleeping. This meant the usual preparations were thrown out the window and it became a mad rush to get the team ready in time for kick off. The club have fined Mr Wilkinson heavily and the matter is now closed.

Welton lined up with the same team that finished the excellent win at Anglers two weeks ago with Mayhem in goal, phil, dave and danny forming the back three, midfield five of connor, joel, alex, lee and ross with bow and jason up top. Leaving a strong bench of Ronnie, Andy wilks and meggy.

The early stages show signs that Welton were perhaps still in their beds and could not get up to their usual high standards. The tigers clearly fancied an upset and were attacking Welton at will, their determination paid off after around 35 mins, a long ball caught the Welton defence off guard and the centre forward raced on to a through ball to put the underdogs 1-0 up. The management trio could not help but voice their disappointment and the players started to show glimmers of the attacking prowess they have become well known for in the remaining 10 minutes. The half time whistle blew which signalled the usual Mark Daly expletives, albeit in a controlled manner. With the words of "advice" ringing in their ears, the players set about having to turn around another poor first half in the cup.

On the hour mark a goal mouth scramble fell to team captain Alex munn to slot home to lift the travelling fans, however this seamed to galvanise the tigers and bar some good defending and a couple of good saves from the keeper Welton could of gone 2-1 down. On around 75 mins Ross henderson pick the ball up in his own half and set about taking on the whole tigers team, despite several teammates screaming for the ball the powerful midfielder continued his mazy run and blasted a left foot thunderbolt from 20 yards into the bottom right hand corner to lift the spirits of the Welton faithful.

Welton's tails were now up and started to grow in confidence. The tigers showed good spirit and continued to push forward when with minutes left on the clock a long punt forward from Mayhem was flicked on by Ronnie to allow our pint sized assassin Tom Bowey to apply a finish of the highest quality chipping the ball over the outrushing tigers keeper. The job was now done and the tigers were put back in there cage!.

Welton Afc now await to hear the result of CW Golden Eagle & Nettleham in what promises to be another difficult away day in January. Next week we return to league duty with a home tie versus old rivals Victory Athletic.

Taylor urges Social focus

Welton manager Al Taylor is determined not to let recent Cup draws distract his side from this Sundays Ron Eaglen Cup clash against FVA Jerusalem.
The Socialites have been drawn at home to Magnet Tavern in the County Cup and Nettleham in the Kelly Read for the second year running and for the fourth time in five seasons but Taylor is happy to put those exciting Cup ties on the backburner.

He told the club's official website: "These are games you look forward to, but equally we have got to progress in the Ron Eaglen Cup this weekend.

"Our focus is on that game and the games we have coming up. There's no question of anyone being distracted and when the time is right we will look forward to the Magnet Tavern game and think about it, The Nettleham game is not until March so that is completely irrelevant."

The fact that we know what the draw is for the next round of the Ron Eaglen makes no difference to us and I’m sure Rick Howden is telling Jerusalem that aswell.”

“We have a bit of a history with Cup games against Jerusalem over the past two seasons and we are expecting a close game this weekend.”

Club secretary and Welton Sports AFC player James Mulhall commented " I am happy with the draw as it will give us the opportunity to avenge our only defeat this season against Scothern in the County Cup where 20 minutes of madness cost us dearly, it will be a tough test, but I firmly believe we have a good chance of beating them second time round"

Sports & Social will face their arch rivals Nettleham once again and I am sure they will be bringing in the big guns to try and beat the current Kelly Read holders.

Also drawn at tonight's league meeting was the next round of the Ron Eaglen Cup with tough draws on the cards again with Welton Sports & Social facing Ivy Tavern or FSC Victory if they manage to progress against FVA Jerusalem this weekend.

Welton Sports AFC will face CW Golden Eagle or Nettleham if they progress this weekend against Hykeham Tigers.

Allmond: Jerusalem is top priority

In form midfielder Sam Allmond anticipates a difficult game when he and his Welton side meet FVA Jerusalem this weekend in the Ron Eaglen Cup.The Socialites goal machine does not expect an easy ride at Monson Park this weekend, and he praised Jerusalem manager Rick Howden and Jerusalem in general for the work they have done to establish the club in the top flight.

"It's a Premier League tie and it's a tough game, a very tough game," he said. "Rick Howden is a top manager and Jerusalem are a very well run club and a club that has been causing us problems ever since I came to Welton 3 seasons ago.

“I believe they are in a false position in the table with some of the players they have in their squad.”

Despite the Welton Management teams rotation policy Allmond is almost certainly one of the first names on the team sheet every Week at the minute as the former Plough Boy star has helped himself to six goals in his last four outings in four different competitions including a goal yesterday that helped set up the socialites New Year showdown with Magnet Tavern.

However, Allmond refused to concentrate too much on a fixture some four weeks away just yet, with the hectic Christmas schedule just about to get underway.

"It'll be a tough game for us against Magnet Tavern but we’re delighted to be in the quarter finals but we'll try and forget about that one until it comes around."

“We have two massive games coming up against Jerusalem and FSC Victory and we want to ensure that we are still in the Ron Eaglen Cup and in with a chance of winning the League by the time the Magnet Tavern game comes around.

Socialites boss Al Taylor was at the draw and he said it will be a fantastic occasion.

"At this stage of this competition you know you're going to get drawn against a good side and Magnet Tavern certainly are that."

Seventh heaven for Welton

Welton marched into the quarter finals of the County Cup with an emphatic 7-2 win against Deportivo Empire. Despite falling behind early on Welton stormed back with goals from Leigh Warman, Sam Allmond, 2 for Jason Tinkler and a Scott Coupland hat trick ensuring that The Socialites are in the hat with some of the biggest teams in Lincolnshire.

Weltons management team were forced to make a couple of changes with Joe Snookes absence meaning Ross Taylor made his first start of the season at left back and Jamie Chesman moved to centre back. Injuries to Craig Cosgrove and Billy Munro lead to Jason Tinkler starting up front, Matt O Halloran and Scott Coupland were rstored to the starting line up having been rested against North Scarle.

The Game could not have started worse for Welton as Deportivo found the back of Phil McGanns net with the first attack of the game, Welton had numerous chances to clear the ball but a speculative strike from outside the box deflected kindly to the Deportivo number 10 who finished well from 12 yards out despite appearing to be in an offside position.

Going a goal down without having the ball in your opponents half was obviously far from ideal but Welton’s response was impressive as they instantly set about gaining parity on the scoreline.

Welton created a string of chances but were denied by the Deportivo keeper and were left frustrated on numerous occasions by the Deportivo linesman.

That frustration didn’t last long though and in the 15th minute Social Park breathed a sigh of relief as Scott Coupland sprung the offside trap and finished clinically past the keeper from the left hand side of the area curling the ball low across the goal.

Like the streets of uphill Lincoln this past weekend it was one way traffic now and Welton looked like they could score at any time, The only surprise was that it was Leigh Warman who made the breakthrough.

Having waited so long to score his first goal in a long time last Week, Warman made it two in two after Matt O Hallorans corner was only partially cleared to the edge of the area where Warman was waiting to drill the ball low through the crowded penalty area past the keeper to give the Socialites the lead for the first time.

With just 30 seconds remaining until half time The Socialites gave themselves some breathing space with a superbly worked goal. Welton had kept possession well down the right and a brilliant through ball by Matt O Halloran played in Sam Allmond who pulled the ball across goal to the back post to Scott Coupland who hammered the ball into the roof of the net from a couple of yards out.

Deportivo barely had time to take the kick off and the sides went in at half time with the score at 3-1

HALF TIME: Welton S&SC 3-1 Deportivo Empire

Welton emerged unchanged for the second half with Phil McGann ominously predicting that he could see himself letting in a howler and sure enough that prediction came true.

Deportivo were clearly fired up by their Managers half time team talk and came out all guns blazeing looking for a way back into the game. The Deportivo right winger poked a fairly tame effort goalwards through the crowded area with the outside of his right foot, McGann looked to have it covered but the ball squirmed underneath him and Deportivo had a lifeline.

Much like the first half though Welton responded brilliantly to conceding and went straight back on to the attack and restored their two goal lead.

Jamie Chesman swung over a left footed cross from the left hand side to the back post to Jason Tinkler who finished superbly with his right foot hitting the ball back across the keeper with a first time shot.

Welton never looked back from that point and their passage to the quarter finals was effectively sealed when Scott Coupland claimed his hat trick and the match ball. A cleverly worked short corner between Matt O Halloran and Sam Allmond lead to the latter whipping in a great cross for Coupland to flick on and into the net from ten yards out.

Welton made a couple of changes at this point with the returning Jack McGovern replacing Leigh Warman who had picked up a knock in the first half and Olly Furness coming on in place of Luke Clifford.

Their were a few ugly moments creeping into the game and handbags were prominent in a mad five minutes that saw 4 players receive yellow cards, Thankfully cooler heads prevailed and normal service was resumed as Welton hit their opponents for six.

Having spent the vast majority of the second half camped in the Deportivo half marauding full back Will Carters golden opportunity finally fell his way when he was played through by Matt O Halloran, Carter duly spurned the opportunity striking meakly straight at the Deportivo keeper, Fortunatley for Welton Sam Allmond was on hand to sweep home the rebound and notch up his sixth goal in 4 games.

Jason Tinkler put the icing on the cake with Weltons seventh. Olly Furness played the ball through the Deportivo defence and three Welton players were being played on by the left back giving Jason Tinkler all the time in the World to ruthlessly smash the ball into the top corner.

Warman ready for Spanish inquisition

Welton centre back Leigh Warman believes that Welton S&SC have enough strength in depth to cope with the loss of Joe Snookes when the Socialites host Grimsby based side Deportivo Empire at the weekend.
The Socialites are looking to make it through to the quarter finals for the third time in four seasons but they will have to do so without flamboyant centre back Joe Snookes.

But Warman believes that Welton can cope without his defensive partner.

“We have great strength in depth.” Said Warman

“Joe will be a big miss at the weekend but we have good players who can come in and do a job.”

“We know it’s going to be a hard game, At this stage of the County Cup you expect to be tested and this weekend will be no different.”

“If we play well at the back then we are always confident that the attacking players we have in our side can go out and out score any team in the County.”

“We don’t know much about them but that is the exciting thing about the County Cup that you are playing against good players who you’ve probably never played against before.”

“We’re expecting a really tough game but it’s certainly a challenge me and the other lads are looking forward to.”

Warman will be hoping to add to his goal tally this weekend after opening his account for the season at North Scarle last Sunday.

“It was nice to get a goal.” Said Warman

“Nearly everyone’s chipped in with a goal so far and that bodes well for the team.”

“When we have players who deliver such quality into the box from set pieces it gives me a better chance of getting my name on the score sheet.”

Yes folks its Charity Night!!

To those who don't know, this is the time of the year when the stars of Welton Sports & Social Football Club do their bit for charity. The event has been running for two years now and involves each player spending a maximum of £10 on an outfit in a charity shop of their choice. There are no restrictions on style with the only stipulation being that you have to leave the tags on and provide a valid receipt. Any amount over the £10 limit will result in a fine and there will be prizes for the amount of items achieved for the £10 budget and best outfit.

Last year we raised around £200 for various charity's in Lincolnshire which goes some way to dispel the myth that all footballers are overpaid and selfish. Despite Welton's top players reportedly earning as much as £3 per week they feel it is important to give back to the local community.

A word of warning to new comers, last year Charity Night Veteran Will Carter pushed the boundaries a little too far for the door staff of several of Lincoln's watering holes in his basketball vest and crisp packet shorts! and with temperatures plummeting it would be ill advised to copy his style.

The event will start at the Social Club this Saturday around 5pm in order to catch the villa vs man utd game, locals are advised that the excess frivolity sign may be in use during the hours of 5-9pm.

Socialites breeze through

Kelly Read Cup holders Welton S&SC progressed into the quarter finals for the fifth Season in a row with a fairly forgettable 6-1 win at North Scarle with goals coming from Craig Cosgrove, Luke Clifford, Leigh Warman, Sam Allmond and 2 for Scott Coupland.

Welton’s squad rotation policy continued and this week it was the turn of star duo Scott Coupland and Matt O Halloran to start on the bench allowing Jason Tinkler and Luke Clifford to return to the starting line up. Injuries to Billy Munro and Steve Mason meant that Ross Taylor returned to the match day squad.

There were farsical scenes at the start of the game as Welton trecked through gail force winds to get to a pitch that resembled a mountain range down one side due to the amount of mole hills that were on it and they were faced with opposition that were not wearing the red and black stripes that they were expected to be wearing they were of course kitted out in light blue and white.

So with referee Daz Wallhead keen to get the game underway both sides were left to take pot luck on who they were passing to, the Socialites attacked into the wind as Ross Taylor sped back to Welton to fetch a change of shirts.

The elements really were playing havoc in the opening stages and the unfortunate kit clash really did make the opening twenty minutes a complete non event in terms of decent football.

Ross Taylors arrival with the much maligned green shirts gave Welton a chance to re group and have some tough words for each other as it was clear that almost without exception the whole team had turned up expecting to win comfortably.

The change in colour signalled a change in attitude from Welton and with the kit clash gone Welton began to carve out a couple of chances and soon got the break through.

Jamie Chesman controlled the ball beautifully after Phil McGanns long punt forward held up in the wind, Chesman played the ball down the line for Furness who in turn played the ball to Luke Clifford. Clifford did well and charged his way to the touch line before chipping the ball back across goal over the goal keeper to Craig Cosgrove to tap into the empty net and complete a lovely passing move.

North Scarle continued to put themselves about though and with the wind behind them they were able to put the Welton rear guard under a bit of pressure late on in the half but Welton stood firm and the sides went in at half time with the score at 1-0.

Despite Weltons slender advantage Big Al made all three planned substitutions bringing on Scott Coupland, Matt O Halloran and Ross Taylor in place of Will Carter, Jamie chesman and Neil Stocks.

With the wind behind them Welton looked a completely different side and the avalanche of goals that was expected soon came.

Weltons second of the morning came from Matt O Halloran’s left wing corner. The former Boston United star whipped in a perfect cross that deceived the keeper and appeared to be going straight in but Luke Clifford put his big head on it anyway just to make doubly sure.

2 soon became 3 when good play down the left between Clifford and Coupland sent Matt O Halloran running through, O Halloran squared for Sam Allmond at the back post and the midfielder made no mistake side footing home his fifth goal in 3 games.

Weltons fourth was not to clever in terms of slick passing football but Leigh Warmans long ball over the top did the job of 10 little passes and sent Scott Coupland charging through on goal to side foot past the keeper with his left foot.

As is customary at the minute though a moment of madness cost Welton a clean sheet again as a farsical back pass went out for a corner that was duly headed home by the big Scarle centre half.

This goal was never likely to signal the start of one of the all time great comebacks though and normal service was resumed when another left sided corner by O Halloran was powerfully met at the back post by Leigh Warman who thundered a header into the top corner for his first goal of the campaign.

Jason Tinkler provided the ammunition for Weltons sixth and final goal skinning his man down the right hand side and crossing low for Coupland who controlled and finished with aplomb.

Another win without really producing a good performance against lower League opposition but the holders march on into the quarter finals where some good sides await.

Welton Sports "Hook" a place in the last 8

Welton Sports Afc progress into the last eight of the Kelly Read after a great second half comeback against division one leaders Anglers FC

On a blustery morning Welton lined up with the same back four as last week of Phil (Big Time) Kelsey, Danny Carlile, Dave Kirkbride and Connor Smith protecting the ever present Mathew (Mayhem) Wilkinson in goal. A midfield five of Lee Cooper, Ross Henderson, Joel Sharpe, Alex Munn with Tom bowey getting the late nod due to Andrew Wilkinson failing a late fitness test, jason Baratt given the lone striker role. Subs included Mulhall, Smith and Metheringham.

The elements threatened to ruin what should of been a good footballing encounter with the division one and two leaders locking horns. After around twenty minutes a long punt forward caught welton's rear guard unaware and Craig Bridge plucked the ball out of the sky and finished neatly to put the home side 1-0 up. This knocked the stuffing out us a little and we were unable to really get the ball down and play. Ten minutes later another long cross field ball was expertly taken down by bridge again and a looping shot beat mayhem to put the home side 2-0 up. Welton had really not got going and the half time whistle gave us a chance to regroup and take on board the managers thoughts.

After a tactical change Connor moved to left midfield and tom bowey alongside jason, reverting back to our usual 3-5-2 formation. This proved to do the trick as welton started carving out some good passages of play and chances were starting to flow. After a series of corners Welton finally made the breakthrough with lee copper taking out everything in his path to power home a header. Welton's tails were now up and it was no long before another cynical foul was awarded our way around 20 yards out. As the Anglers defence were still getting organised Jason Baratt curled a lovely free kick into the bottom left hand side. This had the fans on their feet and Welton now sensed the game was turning in their favour.

It was left to our pint sized assassin Tom Bowey to deliver the final blow as he raced onto a through ball to expertly lob the keeper from 18 yards to make it 3-2. There were rapturous celebrations as bowey revealed his "Why always me" t-shirt in homage to the brainless Man City striker Mario Balotelli. There were a few nervous moments as Welton saw out the final ten minutes to book their place in the last 8 of the Kelly Read Cup in their first outing.

Mase hoping to catch the eye

Steve Mason knows he has a fight on his hands to get into the Welton starting line up - and is aiming to showcase his qualities against North Scarle.
Mason has endured a generally frustrating time of it so far this season, featuring only once as a substitute in the Premier League.

His chances have been limited, but Mason has made a couple of appearances in Cup competitions, a sequence he hopes will continue when Welton travel to North Scarle.

Mason is determined to demonstrate his worth to Social Manager Al Taylor, and views the contest against the division 2 side as the ideal opportunity to show he can offer something to the team after being promised game time after running the line in tricky conditions at Ivy Tavern last weekend.

"It has been a mixed season for me so far," Mason said. " I haven't had as many chances as I would have liked, but at the end of the day it's down to me to keep working hard every day in training and show the manager I deserve a chance when the time comes.

"I have to look at the positive side of things. The boss has put me on the bench for every Premier League game so far and I have played in the Cup games, so I can't complain about that.

"I've got to do everything I can in training to show the boss I am ready if he needs me to play against North Scarle.

"If I do get the chance to play it will be a massive game for me.

"They have a lot of six-foot plus lads in their team and it's a chance for me to show that I can be put up against anyone, of stature and size, whoever, and do a good job for the team."

Welton have a full squad available this weekend as Luke Clifford has overcome an Egyptian stomach complaint.

Taylor has vowed to field a "very strong" line-up but is expected to make a number of changes from Sunday’s 4-3 win at Ivy Tavern.

Sam Allmond will be hoping to keep his place having scored again against Ivy, while Billy Munro and Jason Tinkler made second half appearances as substitutes in that fixture and could be amongst those coming into the team.

"We take it seriously and we'll be going to try to get a result," said Taylor, whose side have never played North Scarle before.

"It's our trophy - and we'd love to win it back and we will be fielding a side that is capable of getting the job done at the weekend and we won’t be taking anything for granted."

"We are fortunate enough to be in a position that if we want to hange last weekends starting eleven we can bring in the likes of Luke Clifford, Billy Munro and Jason Tinkler amongst others."

Welton Sports Afc - Mid Season Update

Good Afternoon Welton Fans, you may of been wondering what has happened to our illiterate roaming reporter Dan Carlile? well he has moved to Birmingham and will now be covering the villa games for AVTV (he wishes).

Anyway as club Secretary I thought it only right that Welton Sports AFC receive equal coverage on our website so I shall attempt to keep you up to speed from now on.

The season has started very brightly indeed with ten wins from ten in the league scoring 37 goals and conceding only 5 which is the second meanest defensive record across all six leagues.

There has been only one blemish on this perfect start thus far with a disappointing defeat to Scothern in the County Cup, 20 minutes of madness costs us dearly and sadly we were not able to rectify the result. In the Ron Eaglen and Kelly Read cups we have progressed safely through to the second rounds and the first big test coming this Sunday in the Kelly Read cup against a strong Anglers FC side who are currently top of the pile in division one.

Supporters wishing to travel to the mill Lane ground are advised to get there early as this looks like being a sell out.

Welton Full Back Will Carter has laughed off speculation linking his Club Welton S&SC with a January move for Manchester City striker Mario Ballotelli saying that internet speculation about a picture of he and Balotelli taken at the weekend has got “completely out of hand.”
“The Speculation about my good friend Mario joining Welton has got completely out of hand.” Said Carter

“I was in Manchester over the weekend and I bumped into Mario and the rest of the City lads on their pre game walk around.”

“I’ve never met any of the other City Boys before but I’d been round to Mario’s once for a house party and we let a few fireworks off out of his Bathroom window, so we stopped and had a chat.”

“Another lad I was with (some of you may recognise as former Welton star Will Johnson) came over and asked if he could have his picture taken with us both and now that pictures all over twitter and in every news paper and people are saying that I was their telling him to sign for Welton and that he was trying to get me to sign for City.”

“It’s got completely out of control. I’m not going to discuss what me and Mario talked about because that’s private between us two.”

“We have great strikers at our Club and I don’t want them to be thinking that I’m trying to get other Players in to take their positions and the same probably goes for Mario as Man City have got a great right back in Micah Richards.”

“You never say never in football but I am prepared to go on record and say that neither I nor my good friend Mario will be leaving our Clubs any time soon.”

Sawyer praise for Taylor

Mack Sawyer has hailed Ross Taylor’s character as the Welton S&SC veteran nears a comeback after almost half a year on the sidelines.

Taylor has been dogged with a troublesome Achilles injury that has seen him miss all of this Season and much of last but the Scot is in line to return to action sooner rather than later.

The Scot has resumed training and, although Sawyer is looking forward to seeing Taylor back in action, the Socialites coach has refused to put a timescale on his return.

"I have been absolutely delighted with what I have seen with Rossco," sawyer said. "I have had the pleasure of seeing how hard he works and the insight into how hard he has worked (over the past year).

"I was only talking to him in the gym this week and asked him how better a professional he thinks this has made him. He is a really sensible boy. He has almost doubled his professionalism and been first-class while he’s been out injured and we will get him back.

"However, I do not want to put any timescale on it because I do not want to put him under any more pressure than he is probably putting himself under to get back. He will be an added bonus for us when he gets back to full fitness but he does have a chance of being involved this Sunday at North Scarle.

Coupland hails fighting spirit

Welton S&SC assistant manager Lee Coupland hailed his side's fighting spirit after a dramatic 4-3 victory against Ivy Tavern at the weeekend.

Goals from Sam Allmond, Matt O Halloran and 2 for Scott Coupland decided the game in Weltons favour after a pulsating 90 minutes at Sudbrooke Drive.

Coupland said afterwards: "The stats show that when you score the first goal in this league 82 per cent of the time you don't lose. The stats are huge.

"I told the players afterwards not to under-estimate what they have achieved this weekend in front of a hostile crowd.

"It was a game we deserved to win. Our team spirit, togetherness and belief were superb and on top of that we worked really hard.

"When we got pegged back to 1-1 it would have been easy for us to capitulate but when they have more than 100 cheering them on, we had no option but to dig deep and go on and try and win it.

"That's what we did and the lads deserve credit for the way they dug in in the final minutes of the game. It was a great team effort all round."

"At 4-2 we should have been able to see the game out but we were trying to do fancy things when we needed to take the sensible option and just close it out but we held on to win 4-3 and I felt we deserved all 3 points for the amount of chances we created going forwards.

"We conceded three bad goals from our point of view but I suppose Ivy will look at two goals we scored and think exactly the same.

Socialites supporters should stay safe

Welton S&SC bosses have taken the dramatic step of writing to all fans travelling to North Scarle for this weekends Kelly Read Cup match to urge them to take safety measures.

The Socialites take on North Scarle – where visiting supporters have previously been subjected to locals throwing route vegetables at their cars.

In a letter to the 8 fans who bought tickets for the match, club officials have urged them:

• Not to wear club shirts or scarves
• To avoid no-go areas – including the post office and Village Green
• And to use special shuttle buses being laid on from 9:30 am from Damons to take them to the stadium for Sunday’s match.

It is the first time Welton have issued such advice. The move comes after four Ruston Eagles supporters were pelted with turnips and carrots outside the NSVH stadium before a League game last weekend.

There were numerous reports of vegetable-weilding thugs on quad bikes carrying out vicious assaults.

Last year three Potterhamworth fans were vegetabled - with two hospitalised - when they visited North Scarle in a pre season friendly.

Worried Welton officials drew up the advice after meeting officials from police at home and in Newark.

Welton’s letter – signed by operations manager David Taylor – says fans should 'take care and use common sense' and 'travel in groups where possible'.

It includes consulate advice to stay away from the 'no-go' areas and adds: “We would also advise you to not wear club colours away from the game, particularly when taking public transport.”

Welton have even taken the dramatic step of asking the players to meet at Damons for fear of their pre match preperations being hampered by North Scarle extremists known as the Scar faces.

Chairman of the Welton S&SC supporters club David Taylor added.

“The behaviour of our supporters has never been questioned and that was proven this last weekend when we visited a hostile Ivy Tavern. Hopefully this weekends game can also pass off without incident. ”

Welton survive Ivy thriller

Welton edged past Ivy Tavern in a seven goal thriller on the Ermine on Sunday morning.Goals from Sam Allmond, Matt O Halloran and a brace for Scott Coupland were just about enough to give Welton a 4-3 win in what will surely be a candidate for game of the season already.

Welton lined up with the same back four of Jamie Chesman, Joe Snookes, Leigh Warman and Will Carter protecting Phil McGann in goal. Big Al Taylor shuffled his pack in midfield with Sam Allmond again starting from the right and Olly Furness starting on the left, Matt O Halloran and Neil Stocks once again started in centre midfield with Craig Cosgrove and talisman Scott Coupland up front meaning Welton had a strong bench of Steve Mason, Jason Tinkler and Billy Munro.

The Socialites started positively and their early pressure was rewarded with the opening goal of the game, Great work from Sam Allmond down the right lead to a Welton free kick which was delivered into the box superbly by Matt O Halloran, Craig Cosgrove was unable to convert the cross but the ball fell kindly to Allmond who blasted home from 8 yards out.

Despite taking the lead and having all the early pressure Welton were pegged back on twenty minutes when a deep cross from the left was headed against Phil McGanns left hand post, The rebound fell kindly to Ivy’s Captain Sean Cann who made no mistake side footing home the rebound.

Welton didn’t capitulate after this set back though and went straight up the other end and regained the lead. Scott Coupland picked the ball up on the right hand side, Coupland worked himself some space then sent over a cross/shot that deceived the Ivy keeper and flew straight over his despairing dive into the top corner to give Welton the lead once again.

If there was a touch of fortune about Couplands goal, there was no fluke about Weltons third. A neat exchange of passing between Coupland and O Halloran lead to O Halloran finding space 30 yards out. The midfield maestro looked up to see the keeper had strayed just off his line and floated an inch perfect lob perfectly over the keeper to give Welton a two goal cushion in spectacular style.

The Ivy threw caution to the wind after that and the Welton defence had to be on top to keep Ivy’s troublesome strike duo at bay but with half time approaching Ivy were awarded a soft penalty and all Weltons hard work looked like it was going to be undone. Up stepped an Ivy midfielder who fired the ball low his left but down went McGann diving low to his right to produce a brilliant save holding on to the ball in the process.

HALF TIME: Ivy Tavern 1-3 Welton S&SC

Welton were forced to make a change at half time with Jamie Chesman having to leave to attend a christening. Olly Furness dropped to left back and Jason Tinkler came on for Chesman down the left wing.

Ivy began on the front foot and put the Welton defence under real pressure from the outset as they were roared on by their huge following who were making the pitch like a cauldron for the Welton players.

Welton still looked like they could score at will going forward but the crucial fifth goal went the Ivy’s way. Despite appearing to be well offside the Ivy’s number 9 latched onto a long ball drilled home low past McGann from twenty yards out to reduce Welton’s lead.

Again Welton showed their character and got straight back at the Ivy with Jason Tinkler causing them all sorts of problems down the left hand side.

Welton were somehow denied a penalty after Matt O Halloran forced a good save from the Ivy keeper he looked all set to bundle home the loose ball from a couple of yards out until he was hauled down but to the astonishment of the travelling Welton faithful the referee waved play on.

The Socialites grievances were soon forgotten though as Jason Tinkler latched onto Leigh Warmans long ball over the top down the left wing. Tinkler raced towards the box before crossing low for Coupland who finished superbly to once again give Welton a two goal cushion.

Ivy were far from done though and they through everything at Welton but unfortunately for them Phil McGann was on top form catching everything that was lumped into his area.

In true Weltn style though a frantic last 5 minutes was ensured when a right wing cross was partially cleared to the edge of the area straight to Ivy’s number 9 who fired home a tremendous half volley past McGanns despairing dive.

An incredible finale ensued with Welton squandering a couple of chance to make the game safe and there was still time for a heart stopping moment where Phil McGann produced a World class save in injury time to preserve what on balance was a well deserved and very hard thought three points for Welton on a memorable morning on the Ermine.

Welton now have three Cup games in the Kelly Read, County Cup and Ron Eaglen Cups before they return to League action in a make or break game away to FSC Victory.

Warman eyes defensive solidarity

Head coach Paul Warman insists Welton S&SC have not lost sight of the importance of keeping clean sheets.

The Socialites have been more prolific in front of goal recently but With such firepower, the Welton defence has barely attracted attention but there is some disappointment at the club that they have conceded in all but one of their games this season.

Social should have kept clean sheets against Ruston Eagles and Cowbit but sloppy errors have cost them clean sheets and Manager Al Taylor has also said he would settle for some of the 1-0 wins often associated with his home nation Scotland.

Warman said: "Al wasn't saying he wanted 1-0 wins, he was more saying that 1-0 will do him as long as we take the three points.

"People talk about them [Scots] seeing 1-0 as a beautiful scoreline, but it's nothing to do with it.

"It's about saying 'no-one is going to score against us'.

"Everyone goes out with the attitude. You talk to [goalkeeper] Phil McGann, or defenders like Joe Snookes, and they want to keep a clean sheet.

"Last Week we were 5-0 up at Rustons and conceded a soft goal before half time, and the boys were distraught in the dressing room at half time.

"Defenders want clean sheets, and if you get them you will win more than you lose, and that's what the aim is, as well as continuing to score goals.

"Unfortunately the two don't always go together."

Welton return to League action this weekend as they travel to resurgent Ivy Tavern in the Premier League knowing that they will really have their work cut out to keep the back door shut with Sean Cann up front for the Ivy.

After a slow start to the season Dave Matthews side have been on a decent run as of late and that has coincided with Cann’s return to the side.

Warman said: "They are very well-drilled, well-organised, and have some pace and some ability. It will be a tough game and they have a couple of outstanding players."

“Sudbrooke Drive is never an easy place to go to but if we can keep Cann quiet we are confident that we can score goals against any side in the County.”

Socialites settle for six

Welton eased in to the next round of the Ron Eaglen Cup to face FVA Jerusalem with a comfortable 6-1 win at Ruston Eagles. Sam Allmond bagged a perfect hat trick along with two goals for Matt O Halloran and a collectors item for Jamie Chesman.

Welton made one change to last weekends line up with Sam Allmond returning to the starting line up to replace Luke Clifford.

It was that change that proved to be significant for Welton as it was Allmond who opened the scoring.

After creating numerous chances early on Welton had to wait until the 14th minute to take the lead. The Goal came when Jason Tinkler and Matt O Halloran worked a short left wing corner for O Hallloran to cross in and it was Allmond who rose highest to help the ball on into the top corner with a flicked header.

Welton were pouring forward at will in one of the most one sided first 45 minutes in recent memory, Jason Tinkler burst forward down the left before his low cross ran right through to marauding full back Will Carter who forced a good save from the Rustons keeper, Unfortunatley for the Rustons stopper Sam Allmond was on hand to knock home the rebound with his right foot beating two Rustons defenders to the loose ball.

The flood gates appeared to be ajar at this point and Weltons third once again arrived when Carter again surged down the right wing and pulled a cross back for Scott Coupland to fire goalwards on the volley, Couplands effort was goal bound anyway but a handy deflection off Matt O Halloran sealed the keepers fate.

O Halloran had a taste for goals now and he added his second with a stunning strike after he was given far to much time on the ball before blasting the ball low past the keeper from fully 25 yards out.

Welton really were threatening to run in a cricket score at this stage and Jamie Chesman even got himself in on the act. A left wing corner was delivered into the area and cleared off the line by a defender only for Chesman to power home a header from 6 yards out for his first goal in two seasons.

The scoreline was tainted for Welton though when a long range strike was spilled by Phil McGann into the path of one of the Rustons forwards who tapped home to deny Welton a clean sheet.

HALF TIME: Ruston Eagles 1-5 Welton S&SC

Welton rang the changes at half time replacing Scott Coupland, Matt O Halloran and Craig Cosgrove with Olly Furness, Steve Mason and Billy Munro, The changes did’t appear to have any adverse effect on Welton as within seconds of the restart, Sam Allmond completed his hat trick.

Welton kicked off and moved the ball out to the left wing. Two passes later and Allmond found himself inside the area drilling a left footed shot past the keepr to complete his perfect hat trick.

This some how was the last goal of the morning as a mixture of poor finishing, brave defending, good goal keeping and the woodwork kept the score at 6-1 despite Welton being camped in the Rustons half for virtually the entire second half.

Welton boss Al Taylor feels Sunday's RE Cup trip to Ruston Eagles will be one of his side's toughest game of the season so far.

Last Seasons beaten finalists hope to go one further this Season but know that they must overcome a potential banana skin to start off with.

"Ruston Eagles are a very decent team with a number of quality players who, it has to be said, play good football," said Taylor.

"They will be very organised and efficient and more than anything they will feel like they have nothing to lose as on paper we are expected to beat them.

"It's always the same when you go in to a game as strong favorites, We know that we have to match their effort and work rate then hopefully our quality will shine through."

Luke Clifford is Weltons only confirmed absentee this Weekend and Taylor is expected to name a largely unchanged side with Sam Allmond likely to come back into the starting line up.

Welton S&SC Manager AL Taylor says that he is satisfied with Mondays Cup draws that see his Socialites face Deportivo Empire at home in the County Cup and North Scarle away in the Kelly Read Cup.

“We couldn’t have asked for a lot more.” Said Taylor

“The County Cup is a lottery and any team you face in the last 16 are going to be a good side.”

“On paper we are the top side left in the competition from Lincoln so you could argue that Victory Athletic or AFC Red Lion would have been a better draw but that is not what the County Cup is about.”

“We want to be testing ourselves against the best teams from around the County and it always adds a bit more excitement playing a team who are not from Lincoln.”

“Deportivo beat Swan in the last round and we have to take it as a given that they are going to be a decent side so we are happy that we don’t have to travel to them.”

“AS for the Kelly Read, I think all the big teams in the competition will be happy to have avoided each other and we have to fancy our chances against a side from Division 2.”

“We will treat the game against them as we do every other game in this competition though and we will not be taking them lightly and will go into that game with the same attitude as this Sundays Ron Eaglen game against Ruston Eagles.”

Coupland aiming to build on win

Captain Scott Coupland is convinced Welton will make a big impression in the County Cup now they have reached the last 16.

Social moved into the last 16 of Lincolnshires elite competition with a comfortable 5-1 win against last seasons semi finalists Cowbit on Sunday morning.

Coupland said: "I think we made a statement yesterday.

"We have finally got the campaign going and we feel the County Cup is something we can achieve good things in, just like every other competition.

"It was a good performance, very professional. We can move on from this."

Coupland added: "I think our defensive performances have been good recently and that is starting to give us the platform to go and attack teams.

"Sometimes you are just unlucky to get a goal against.

"Here, a good performance throughout the whole game was rewarded.

Welton needed to play patiently throughout the first half hour as the visitors looked to deny them time on the ball. Yet, with slick passing, Welton were constantly able to probe away at the Cowbit defence and once the outstanding O Halloran scored the opener they took complete control.

O Halloran who is starting to forge a decent partnership in midfiled with Neil Stocks said,

"It is fantastic am delighted to have scored two goals in one game but the most important thing is the result and what the team is doing and I am very happy with the result.

"Everybody is doing well and everyone is happy.

“We’re in the hat for the next round and there’s obviously some teams to avoid but if we can get a home draw then we will be confident.”

Fireworks on the pitch for five star Social

Welton stormed their way into the last 16 of the County Cup with a stunning 5-1 win over Spalding based giants Cowbit. Matt O Halloran and Scott Coupland had given Welton a 2-0 lead at half time before Cowbit pulled one back at the start of the second half but further goals for O Halloran and Coupland aswell as a fifth from Luke Clifford sealed an impressive victory for the Socialites.

Welton were able to make a couple of changes from the side that had beaten Swan with such ease the previous weekend with Phil McGann returning in goal and Jamie Chesman also returning at left back, Billy Munro’s absence meant Craig Cosgrove was recalled to the starting line up pushing Jason Tinkler up front to partner Scott Coupland.

Welton looked sharp from the outset and wasted little time creating chances against their unfamiliar opponents with Neil Stocks providing a solid platform for the rest of the midfield to go and attack.

Matt O Halloran was unfortunate not to give Welton the lead on 15 minutes after a superb passing move lead to O Halloran being played through by Scott Coupland only to be denied by a brilliant save by the Cowbit keeper.

The Cowbit stopper had to be at his best again minutes later to deny Luke Clifford who’s low shot from just inside the area stung his palms as he dived down low to keep out Cliffords fierce drive.

As the half wore on Cowbit began to get a foot hold in the game and created a couple of chances the best of which was a far post header from a corner that was cleared off the line by Will Carter.

As the half appeared to be drawing to a goalless conclusion Welton earned a free kick twenty five yards out to the right of the penalty area. Luke Clifford and Matt O Halloran stood over the ball and after some debate Luke Clifford still didn’t realise what was being asked of him and rolled the ball to O Halloran who curled the ball over the wall and into the top corner to give welton a deserved lead with 5 minutes to go before the interval.

One goal didn’t really to justice to Welton’s performance but the home support massed in the John Stanham stand’s half time Bovrils tasted all the more sweeter as Scott Coupland gave the Socialites a two goal cushion.

More good football down the right hand side lead to the ball being crossed over to the left. Jason Tinkler controlled well and coolly pulled the ball back to Coupland who rifled home with his left foot from a tight angle.

HALF TIME: Welton S&SC 2-0 Cowbit FC

As expected Cowbit came out all guns blazing forcing several early corners which the Welton defence handled well. The Socialites appeared to have weathered the early storm until a bizarre mistake by Joe Snookes gifted the ball to the tricky Cowbit number 8 who could bare down on McGann unchallenged and finish well to give his side hope.

Having worked hard to get their two goal lead Welton looked like they were on the verge of throwing it all away.

With Cowbit growing in confidence the next goal was certain to be pivotal to the outcome of the game.

Neat link up play down the right hand side between Scott Coupland and the impressive Craig Cosgrove lead to Coupland drilling a low ball into the area, With Jason Tinkler bearing down on him the Cowbit centre back at the front post got himself into a horrible mess and turned the ball in past his keeper to restore Welton’s two goal cushion.

Social never looked back from this point and re asserted their dominance on their opponents.

Matt O Halloran who had been a constant threat all morning almost grabbed his second when he got on the end of a surprisingly accurate cross from Will Carter but O Hallorans powerful header was saved well by the Cowbit keeper.

With twenty minutes to go O Halloran eventually did grab his second when he fired home a low drive that whistled past the keeper and flew in off the keepers right hand post.

Welton’s fifth Goal was far more direct than their previous four, Leigh Warman and Joe Snookes who had been solid throughout clattered into Cowbits gobby number 9 and sent the ball down the pitch and over the top of the Cowbit rear guard for Luke Clifford who raced through one on one with the keeper before finishing with his right foot.

That goal proved to be Cliffords last involvement of the game as he and Jamie Chesman were withdrawn to be replaced by fan favourite Sam Allmond and Steve Mason.

With the game won Welton coasted through the last twenty minutes and into this afternoon fourth round draw where some of the biggest sides in the County await.

Welton Manager Big AL Taylor says his Welton S&SC side are rearing to go ahead of this Sundays eagerly awaited County Cup Clash with Spalding giants CowBit.

The Socialites head into this Sundays game on the back of two wins in the League and Taylor hopes that they can continue to build on recent performances.

“We’re starting to put in some good performances.” Said Taylor

“We know we will have to be at our very best on Sunday because they will be a strong side.”

“They got to the Semi Finals last Year and much like us in last Years County Cup appeared to be home and dry against Jerusalem and should have made it through to the Final so that is a measure of the quality that we will face on Sunday.”

“These are the games we look forward to though and it’s always exciting playing against teams who you don’t play week in week out.”

“If we’re on top of our game I’m sure we will be well matched and it will be a great game.”

Welton have no fresh injury concerns going into the Weekend and should be able to welcome back Jamie Chesman and Phil McGann.

Swan hit for six

Welton carried on from last weekends win at Jerusalem with a 6-0 thumping of Swan. Scott Coupland helped himself to a hat trick and a goal a piece for Matt O Halloran, Sam Allmond and Neil Stocks completed the rowt, The clean sheet at the other end also helps send Welton in to next weekends County Cup clash in confident mood.

Carl Stubbs was once again brought in to replace Phil McGann in a largely unchanged side that saw only one change to the outfield personnel with Sam Allmond dropping into left back and Matt O Halloran returning to the midfield to replace Jamie Chesman.

It took Welton a while to get going as the Socialites struggled to be composed on the ball with the physical Swan players hounding down everything in the early stages.

Swan looked threatening from set pieces but it was the Socialites were creating the more clear cut opportunities with several players guilty of missing good chances to break the deadlock.

The opener eventually came for Welton though and it was talisman Scott Coupland who spotted the Swan keeper off his line and finished off a sweeping attack with a tremendous strike that flew over the keeper and into the top corner.

Welton didn’t rest on their opener though and continued to play some lovely passing football creating chances at will but again failing to make the game safe with Sam Allmond and Luke Clifford guilty of missing some easy chances.

As Half time drew closer and despite Weltons dominance they only had a one goal lead to show for it. Jason Tinkler’s right wing corner was partially cleared to the edge of the area towards Billy Munro who horrible sliced a volley to the far post where fortunately for Welton Leigh Warman was lurking to follow Munros example and go for a spectacular volley that again sliced horribly back miles away from the goal to Tinkler who was out near the corner flag still. Tinkler controlled and fired across a superb low cross that was clinically dispatched by Sam Allmond who fired home low past the Swan keeper in a crowded Penalty area.

Welton returned unchanged for the second half but Swan returned a man light which really meant it was an uphill struggle for the visitors.

Swan gave it a good go though but their early efforts were undone when Scott Coupland dispossessed a Swan centre back and ran clean through on goal. Billy Munro kept pace with Coupland and Weltons front two combined to deadly effect to make the game safe with first Coupland squaring to Munro who with the goal at his mercy unselfishly (cowardly) chose to role the ball back to Coupland who tapped home with the baffled Swan keeper sprawled on the ground at Munros feet.

That goal proved to be the straw that broke the camels back and Welton kicked on and really pressed home their advantage.

Of all people Neil Stocks grabbed the fourth in some style it must be said, playing a neat one – two with Jason Tinkler down the right. Stocks controlled Tinklers return pass on his chest and unleashed a thunderous strike across the keeper into the top corner of the net from 18 yards out.

4 soon became 5 when Matt O Halloran was sent clear through the middle, The creative midfielder made no mistake beautifully curling the ball home from twenty yards out past the Swan keeper who really couldn’t have done anything about any of Weltons goals such was the quality of the finishing.

Scott Coupland completed the rowt and completed his hat trick by once again toying with the Swan defence and keeper before stroking the ball home into the bottom corner to claim the match ball.

All in all a satisfactory morning for Welton, Weltons task was of course made easier by Swan playing the second half with ten men but the commendable effort and hard work of those ten men meant it was far from easy for the Socialites.

Taylor: Social up for the fight

Al Taylor has warned the rest of the Premier League his Welton team are "up for the fight" as they look to battle back into the top three.

The Socialites boss used Fridays pre game press conference to launch an impassioned plea for everyone to unite behind a squad which has slowly recovered from a poor start that saw them slumped down the Premier League table.

Welton host high flying Swan on Sunday following last weekends hard earned win at Jerusalem looking to build momentum going into next weekends County Cup Clash with Grantham Giants Cowbit.

And, while more tough challenges lie ahead, Taylor remains adamant the future is bright if all Socialites continue to keep the faith.

"The team is on the right way, it has a fantastic attitude and spirit," said the Welton manager.

"Where we will finish at the end of the season? Frankly, I don't know.

"But I know just one thing that these players we have at the moment are ready for a fight, because I see them every day and they are ready to have a go."

Taylor maintained he could "understand the fear and discontent" of some supporters, but stressed: "Trust us, this team has qualities, this team will fight - and if you help us to do that I think we will have a successful season."

Taylor is expected to name a largely unchanged side for the Halloween weekend visit of Swan with Jamie chessman being the only absentee from last weekends win at Jerusalem.

Mark Curtis is back and in contention to take Chesman’s place at left back, with Matt O Halloran and Craig Cosgrove pushing for a central midfield berth should Sam almond be deployed at left back.

Clifford provides Weltons X Factor

Luke Clifford made a goal scoring return for Welton S&SC as the Socialites got back to winning ways against Jerusalem. Billy Munro had given Welton a spectacular lead early on before Clifford struck on the half hour mark to double Weltons lead. A scrappy Jonny Bell goal just before half time concluded the scoring with no further goals scored in a dramatic and tense second half.

Welton reverted to a tried and tested 4-4-2 formation with Jamie Chesman and Joe Snookes returning to join Leigh Warman and Will Carter in the back four. Luke Clifford came straight in on the left hand side of a midfield which saw Sam Allmond back in his favoured central role.

The Socialites started the game brightly and were soon rewarded when Billy Munro controlled a low cross from Luke Clifford brilliantly on the edge of the box with his back to goal before spinning round and lashing a beautiful dipping volley over the Jerusalem keepers head to get Welton off to a stunning start against basement boys Jerusalem.

Welton were looking the more likely to grab a second but Jeru remained a threat with the pacey Josh Schofield looking to get in behind at every opportunity.

Weltons second goal came about when a Jerusalem corner was swung dangerously into the box for centre forward Ash McKinstry who drew a brilliant save from Phil McGann the loose ball was hacked away and suddenly Welton were in. Billy Munros flicked header was latched on to by Luke Clifford who’s touch took him away from the last defender before finishing neatly across the keeper into the bottom corner to cap a perfect come back for Clifford and double Weltons lead.

Welton had all the momentum now but they were stopped in their tracks when another right wing corner was whipped in by Craig Smith, Phil McGann appeared to be fouled as he came to try and deal with the ball but no foul was given and the ball consequently bounced off Jonny Bell and into the net past the fallen McGann.

Both sides returned unchanged for the second half and Welton were unlucky not to restore their two goal cushion when Jason Tinkler tricked his way into the Jeru area before pulling the ball back to Munro who’s first time strike was destined for the top corner had it not been for a remarkable one handed save by the Jeru keeper.

The Game had a horribly familiar feel to it for Welton as chances continued to come and go for the Socialites without them converting a chance to put the game to bed and as Jeru threw more and more Men forward the solid Welton rear guard came under increasing pressure.

Jonny Bell was unlucky as he smashed a twenty five yard free kick against McGanns cross bar.

The Socialites used their strong bench well bringing on Barry McGann, Craig Cosgrove and Olly Furness to help ride out the Jerusalem pressure and the game appeared to be all over until a heart stopping last minute of injury time for the Welton faithful.

A contentious corner was awarded to Jerusalem which allowed all 11 men including the goalkeeper to flood in and around the welton area. The corner was half cleared and crossed back in from the right hand side to McKinstry who leapt highest only to see his header rattle the cross bar the loose ball was headed agonisingly back across the face of the Welton goal and somehow Welton managed to throw enough bodies in the way to keep the ball out and again the ball was scrambled out to the Jerusalem winger who crossed in again this time for Schofield who volleyed the ball in past McGann.

Jeruusalem’s celebrations were cut short though as the whistle had long since gone for offside against any one of five players including Schofield who were in offside positions after the Welton defence had followed the ball out.

The resulting free kick was clattered down field and the final whistle had blown with Welton collecting a hard earned three points to make up for the disappointing late goal they conceded against Hykeham seven days previously.

Welton full back Will Carter believes that the return of Luke Clifford can be the catalyst to kick start Weltons faltering Season. After a bright start to the season Welton have taken just 2 points out of a possible nine in their last 3 League games a run which has seen them surrender leads late on to Scothern United and AFC Hykeham which were both games that many experts expected Welton to win.

Media critics have sited a number of reasons for Weltons dip in form and rumours continue to circle over dressing room unrest but Carter rushed to deny that there is any rift in the dressing room.

“The results speak for themselves.”

“We’re in a poor position in the League and it’s mostly down to us shooting ourselves in the foot surrendering leads.”

“It’s impossible for anyone to pinpoint what has gone wrong in recent Weeks but I also feel it’s disrespectful to the opposition to say that throwing away leads has been all our own doing.”

“Teams role their sleeves up against us and It’s not always easy for us to play the football that we want to, so we have to find the balance between playing good passing football and sensible football that doesn’t see the ball end up in the back of our net.”

“It would be nice to be able to play like we did against Varsity in the County Cup every Week but the teams we play against just don’t allow us to do that and we’re finding out the hard way at the minute that we are a team that every one wants to beat because they know we are a good side.”

Clifford was one of Weltons top stars for three Seasons before moving away to Australia for a Year and Carter believes that if Clifford can settle straight back into the side then Welton will soon start climbing back up the table.

Welton were once again left frustrated by bogey side AFC Hykeham on Sunday morning as a late equaliser denied the Socialites all 3 points.

Welton looked to be heading for the win after a brace from Scott Coupland had overturned a Hykeham opener midway through the first half.

Hykeham took the lead completely against the run of play but Welton responded well going straight back up the other end and equalising when Coupland converted a penalty that he had won for a trip inside the box.

Welton dominated the first half and started out on the front foot again in the second period with Coupland crashing home a spill from the Hykeham keeper.

Welton didn’t press on from their though and the Socialites were made to pay for not turning their dominance of possession in the first three quarters of the game into a comfortable lead when Hykehams Steve John crashed home Adam Louth’s cross in injury time to leave Welton frustrated once again.

Kelly Read Cup holders Welton S&SC began their pursuit of a fourth consecutive Cup triumph by seeing off Division 1 side Metheringham 5-2 at Social Park. Goals from Matt O Halloran, Jason Tinkler, Billy Munro and a brace for Scott Coupland saw the Socialites successfully negotiate a tricky first round tie.

Welton lined up in a new look 3-5-2 formation with Carl Stubbs in goal covering for Phil McGann protected by Leigh Warman, Joe Snookes and Sam Allmond.

The Socialites struggled to adapt to their new look formation in the opening exchanges with Metheringham starting brightly but they were made to pay for not taking advantage of their early pressure when Welton punished them with their first real moment of quality in the game as Matt O Halloran finished off a flowing move with the help of a slight deflection.

Welton doubled their advantage ten minutes later when a Metheringham goal kick was won well in the air by Leigh Warman with Matt O Halloran hooking on the loose ball over the top for Coupland to brilliantly chip over the advancing goalkeeper with his left foot.

This didn’t trigger the start of an avalanche of goals for Welton in their new look attacking formation and they were pegged back when a Metheringham midfielder lashed a thunderous strike against Stubbs’ cross bar from 30 yards only for the ball to rebound out to the big ginger centre forward who headed in from the edge of the area to half the deficit.

Metheringhams lifeline was soon taken away from them though when Jason Tinkler and Matt O Halloran worked a short corner allowing the latter to whip across a superb ball for Sam Allmond whos header crashed against the bar but Billy Munro reacted fastest to the loose ball smashing in from a tight angle.

Welton could have had more goals before half time with Coupland almost getting his second after rounding the keeper and Jack McGovern forced a brilliant save from the Meg keeper with a trademark free kick.

HALF TIME: Welton S&SC 3-1 Metheringham

The Socialites started the second half fairly sluggishly again and it was Metheringham who put the early pressure on and much like the first half they were made to pay for not taking advantage of their bright start.

Jason Tinkler and Craig Cosgrove switched wings to good effect as Tinkler began to become more of a threat from the right and it was Tinkler who had a huge hand in Weltons last two goals and much more of Weltons best play throughout the second half.

The tricky winger danced his way to the touchline before pulling back to Coupland who buried the chance to grab his second of the morning.

More good work from Tinkler lead to the fifth when his low cross was turned into his own net by one of the Metheringham defenders.

Joe Smith grabbed a sloppy consolation goal for the visitors to complete the scoring meaning Welton advance to the next round without ever really hitting top gear.

Bad to worse for Welton

Welton are left with an uphill task once again if they are to challenge for the Premier League title after they slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Social Park to rivals FSC Victory.

Welton started poorly were caught cold after 5 minutes when Ben Good found space to head home a Shaun Booth corner at the near post.

Welton could have already been behind before this Goal had it not been for two excellent saves by Phil McGann.

The Socialites began to play there way into the game but were undone on the counter attack when the incompetent official in charge of the game chose to ignore the linesman’s flag and allow Jordan Hempenstall to race clear and finish well past McGann to double Victory’s lead despite furious protests from the dug out.

Half Time Welton S&SC 0-2 FSC Victory

Welton needed to banish the memories of previous games where sloppy second half performances have cost them dearly and take the came to Victory.

On the whole Welton’s second half performance was a lot better with the Socialites having the Lions share of possession without ever really forcing Vic goalkeeper Rick Duffin to make many saves.

Welton grabbed a lifeline when substitute Craig Cosgrove brilliantly finished off a decent move with 15 minutes to go but Victory withstood Weltons late onslaught to mean that once again Welton have all the work to do.

The Socialites now have two weeks of Cup competition before they return to League action against bogey side AFC Hykeham.

Welton let a valuable two points slip away at social Park as they surrendered a two goal lead that was given to them by goals from Scott Coupland and Billy Munro to draw 2-2 with neighbours Scothern.

Work commitments ruled out Jason Tinkler and he was replaced by Mark Curtis and Weltons only other change came in goal where Phil McGann was replaced by Carl Stubbs.

Welton turned in a decent first half performance and had it not been for Stephen (Stick) Holman, Welton could have gone in at half time with more than just the one goal that came from Scott Coupland following a superb set up by Billy Muinro.

HALF TIME: Welton S&SC 1-0 Scothern

Not for the first time this season Welton started the second half poorly after looking to be in complete control at the end of the first half.

Welton doubled their lead against the run of play when Coupland returned the favour slipping in Billy Munro to dink over the advancing Holman to give Welton a two goal cushion.

Scothern again had Holman to thank for producing a string of fine saves before slack marking at the back for Welton allowed Andy Addlington to pull a goal back for the visitors.

Both keepers took centre stage with the impressive Stubbs producing a couple of fine saves for Welton ably assisted by a sensational goal line clearance by Sam Allmond on one occasion.

Holman again thwarted Welton when he produced an unbelievable save from a Matt O Halloran free kick that look destined for the top corner.

Welton were made to rue their missed chances though and more sloppy defending cost them two points as Joe Snookes handled in the area giving Adlington the chance to level from the penalty spot.

Stubbs guessed the right way and got good contact on the ball but it squirmed past him to give Scothern a point.

Welton Sports AFC have received a timely boost after Sunday afternoons reality check against Scothern United with carthorse centre forward James Drabble returning to light training ahead of schedule.The prolific centre forward who almost left Social Park on deadline day had been ruled out for between three and four more months after damaging knee ligaments last season but has made a quicker-than-expected recovery.

Drabble appeared to be on his way out of Social Park last Thursday but failed a medical at Burtons FCW.

The Welton Sports management team are so desperate to put Sundays County Cup defeat behind them their chief Club doctor Tommy Andrews has said that Drabble will be able to start light training and could be pushing for a recall to the starting line up sometime in October.

Manager Al Taylor attended the draw at Lincs FA HQ and had this to say.

Welton coach Mack Sawyer says the club were quiet on deadline day because they had been quick to act earlier in the transfer window.

Al Taylor signed five players in the summer with Matt O Halloran, Barry McGann and Steve Mason all joining on permanent deals.

Sawyer also revealed that the club had secured a goalkeeper on a loan deal for when Phil McGann is away next weekend.

He told the club's official website: "We had a couple of sniffs at a late deal for a player on loan coming on and we managed to get it done in the end.

"We were quite passive on deadline day because we had done everything we had set out to do when we made our plans for the summer."

Welton also managed to keep hold out their star names, including Scott Coupland which pleased sawyer.

He said: "We said all along we would not sell our best players this summer. Al is happy with his squad and we were not going to add players to the squad just for the sake of adding them.

Welton strolled into the next round of the County Cup with a comprehensive 9-1 demolition of Division 2 side Dynamo Varsity, A first half hat trick from Scott Coupland along with braces for Matt O Halloran and Billy Munro and a goal a piece for Craig Cosgrove and Will Carter completed the rowt.

Welton made one change from last weeks starting line up with Craig Cosgrove replacing Ian Tinkler which meant that the versatile Sam Allmond dropped in at left back and Cosgrove regained his starting berth on the right wing.

Welton looked assured from the outset and immediately set about dismantling their lower League opponents and were rewarded with opening goal ten minutes in when good play down the left by Jason Tinkler lead to Scott Coupland turning well in the box and beating keeper Andy Callaghan who made a questionable effort to keep out Couplands shot.

Having made the break through Welton never looked back and doubled their advantage when neat football down the right lead to Billy Munro whipping a cross into the near post for the excellent O Halloran to deftly head past the keeper to double the Socialites advantage.

Two soon became three when Jason Tinkler set off on a mazy run leaving players in his wake before firing a low ball across to Craig Cosgrove who just beat his marker to the ball and finished well at the near post.

The game took an unexpected twist when Varsity pulled a goal back, A deep free kick was swung in and a Varisty player was left completely unmarked to head home from 6 yards out.

Welton’s quality seemed to dip briefly after this but normal service was resumed when Craig Cosgrove’s cross was handled in the box leading to a Welton Penalty. Upstepped Scott Coupland to fire home his second penalty of the season.

Weltons fifth was a joy to watch as Billy Munro lead a counter attack down the left hand side floating over a lovely cross for Coupland who still had plenty to do but weltons talisman made no mistake volleying perfectly into the top corner to complete his first hat trick of the season.

That goal was to be Couplands last action of the game as he was replaced by new recruit and fan favourite Mark Curtis who looks like being the biggest transfer flop since Bebe joined Manchester United. Curtis showed electric pace and was withdrawn after twenty minutes.

Welton didn’t look as assured in possession in the second half and looked to go direct to early, understandably so perhaps with the game effectively already over but one such Hollywood pass from Will Carter lead to the sixth for Welton.

A raking ball from the Welton full back played in Matt O Halloran who finished well past Callaghan to give the creative midfielder his second goal of the game.

Welton added to their haul with a stunning strike by Billy Munro who picked the ball up with his back to goal, turned well and lashed home a ferocious strike that had the Varsity keeper beaten all ends up as it flew past him into the corner of the net.

Weltons eighth should have arrived sooner than it did when a flowing counter attack lead to Matt O Halloran playing in Will Carter who with the goal at his mercy unselfishly chose to square the ball to Jason Tinkler, If Carter had the goal at his mercy Tinkler had the goal bent down on it’s knees begging him to put it in but somehow Tinkler blazed WELL over from 3 yards out robbing the Social Park crowd of a superb goal.

Despite that Weltons eighth was not long in coming and it went to Will Carter who put Thursdays transfer deadline day drama behind him to register his first of the campaign.

Matt O Halloran curled a free kick over the wall straight into the keepers hands however in conditions similar to that of hurricane Irene the keeper allowed the ball to squirm free to Carter who had followed in well and finished with aplomb lobbing the ball into the goal from six yards out before producing a stunning array of celebrations that finished with a text book knee slide and celebrations with the one team mate that could be bothered to run after him.

Welton concluded the scoring when Will Carter and Matt O Halloran worked a short corner that lead to the latter curling over a lovely cross for Munro to power home at the back post.

All eyes now turn to tomorrows draw to see who Welton will get in the next round.

Jack McGovern is hoping that Welton come through this Sundays potential County Cup banana skin against Dynamo Varsity and get drawn away to a Grimsby based side because he loves nothing more than a nice tray of fish and chips down by the seaside. McGovern like many others was left hugely disappointed by last Years County Cup elimination in the first round where Welton battered eventual finalists Jerusalem for 85 minutes before somehow going out on Penalties.

Carter believes Scholesy who finally gave up on trying to get a contract at Welton last Year could be the man to shore up his creaky defence after they conceeded six at Metheringham at the weekend. Could this mean Jaz Dhindsa is leaving Mulsanne Park?

15:52 WELTON STUCK WITH DRABBLE: It looks like Welton are stuck with James Drabble until at least January after the prolific centre forward failed his medical at the Burton Arms. West Ham dogs body Mark Curtis has rejoined Welton S&SC on a season-long loan from the Championship side just days before the transfer window closes and is set to go straight into the squad for this Sundays County Cuyp clash with Dynamo Varsity.The 25-year-old has passed a medical and becomes manager Al Taylors third new recruit.

"I am very excited to come back here and play in Welton, I have had great times here in the past and hope to help out as much as I can," Curtis told the Socialites' official website.

"I am hoping to get a chance to show the fans what I can do.

"I have to prove myself once again but if I get the chance I would love to help the club this season.

With just days to go until the transfer window slams shut Welton S&SCFC have been forced to dealve into the transfer market to look for someone to mark the pitch.

With the season now underway the Club have begun a new campaign to find someone who would be prepared to mark the pitch for home games.

With head groundsman John stanham hanging up his wellies at the end of last season both Welton Sports AFC and Welton S&SC have had to rely on players to ensure that the pitch is marked out and thus far the standard of line marking has been nothing short of abysmal and Manager Al Taylor feels it is time to get someone in on a permanent basis.

"I feel it is time to get someone in on a permanent basis." said Taylor

"The lads did well to mark the pitch for the Ivy game but the touch line at the wall end was a disgrace, I don't know what they were thinking of at the time!"

"We are urgently appealing for anyone out there who would be willing to spare an hour during of their week to do the pitch or to anyone who knows of anyone they think would be willing to do it."

"We will never close the door for John (Stanham) to return to his head groundsman position but it would be brilliant if someone was prepared to help out."

Welton begin with a win

Welton kicked off their Premier League campaign with a fantastic 4-1 win over League new boys Ivy Tavern at Social Park, On paper what looked to be a tricky opening fixture for the Socialites proved to be just that but two goals for Jason Tinkler and a goal each for Billy Munro and Scott Coupland gave Welton three hard earned points.

Welton lined up with Phil McGann in goal protected by a revamped back four of Will Carter, Joe Snookes, Leigh Warman and Ian Tinkler due to an injury to Jamie Chesman, Across the middle were Sam Allmond, Neil Stocks, Matt O Halloran and Jason Tinkler with Billy Munro and Barry McGann up front. Due to a hectic early season schedule Scott Coupland and Jack McGovern started on the bench with Ross Taylor completing the Welton 14.

As expected Ivy came straight at Welton from the first whistle as they looked to justify their jump up from Division 2 to the Premier League. In a fast paced and physical first half Welton were forced to abandon their passing principals at times and resorted to sensible no nonsense football with Leigh Warman and Joe Snookes mopping everything up at the back and Neil Stocks dominating the midfield.

Clear cut chances were few and far between in the early stages but when the first chance of the game was created for Jason Tinkler the Welton winger made no mistake clinically finishing off a good move from down the right hand side, The ball was played across to Tinkler who managed to find space in the Ivy penalty area controlling well and rifling home low past the keeper to give Welton the lead.

Welton seemed to take heart from this opening goal and doubled their lead ten minutes before half time. Matt O Halloran looked set to whip in a cross from a free kick down the left hand side but instead cleverly drilled the ball into the feet of Billy Munro who turned brilliantly with his first touch before hammering the ball across the keeper with his left foot and into the bottom corner to give Welton some breathing space.

Ivy continued to throw everything at Welton but the blue and white wall of Welton defenders meant that Phil McGann was largely untroubled in goal.

As half time loomed Welton thought they had all but got the game sewn up when O Halloran whipped in a free kick from a similar position to that which lead to Munro’s goal and it was flicked on brilliantly by Sam Allmond into the top corner only for a questionable flag to be raised by the Ivy linesman much to the fury of everyone connected with Welton.

Welton returned unchanged for the second half but where as they looked to be in complete control in the first half the pendulum swung back in Ivy’s favour with the words of manager Dave Matthews still ringing in their ears, Ivy grabbed an early lifeline when a corner was misjudged at the near post by Ian Tinkler who had been faultless up to that point and was turned in from close range giving McGann no chance.

Spurred on by the early goal Ivy had Welton pinned back in their own half for the opening 15 minutes or so of the second half and Welton were forced to defend a string of corners. Welton were defending with a calm assurance but Ivy nearly drew level when their centre forward lofted the ball over an advancing McGann but the goal bound effort was (a tad over dramatically) cleared off the line by skipper Will Carter.

With twenty minutes to go Welton freshened things up by withdrawing Barry McGann who had run himself into the ground and Ian Tinkler to be replaced by star duo Jack McGovern and Scott Coupland.

After a tense start to the second half Welton began to settle down and play some nice football with McGovern, Coupland and O Halloran putting together some lovely passing moves that eventually lead to the third and decisive goal which was slammed home by Jason Tinkler from ten yards out.

That goal appeared to take a bit of the wind out of Ivy’s sails and Welton put the gloss on a tremendous team performance when the impressive Billy Munro was hacked down inside the area for a stone wall penalty that was coolly converted by Scott Coupland sending the keeper the wrong way to make it 4-1 to Welton and give the Socialites a perfect start to the season against a decent Ivy Tavern side.

Weltons disasterous pre season campaign came to a dreadful end on Sunday morning as the Socialites slumped to a 3-1 defeat against local rivals Nettleham.

Welton took to the field for only the second time this summer with several key players missing and the two sides looked well matched throughout the first half.

Welton took the lead with twenty minutes gone as Jason Tinkler smashed home a superb strike from the edge of the area after cutting in from the left hand side.

Welton never really looked like kicking on from this though and they were promptly pegged back when a deep free kick was misjudged by McGann in the Welton goal allowing Jonny Drabble to easily head home.

Welton almost took the lead just before half time after a flowing move heavily involving Scott Coupland was almost finished off by Barry McGann had it not been for a brilliant goal line interception from the Nettles right back.

HALF TIME: Welton S&SC 1-1 Nettleham

If Weltons first half was below par their second half performance was nothing short of diabolical as they struggled to put together any sort of passing football and they were punished midway through the second half when former Social Park favorite Joe Drabble turned sharply inside the area before firing past McGann.

Weltons embarassment was not over as the Nettles scored a third when their left winger was played clean through after a neat one two before finishing delightfully past McGann with the outside of his right foot.

Billy Munro rattled the underside of the bar and new signing Steve Mason hit the foot of the post for Welton and had those two efforts gone in a more respectable scoreline would have been registered but in truth a draw would have flattered Welton who were out battled and out played.

So Welton go into next Sundays season opener against Ivy Tavern in worrying form but Social fas will surely be thinking that the socialites can not turn in such a poor performance again when the real action begins.

Welton missed out on the title last season because of an awful start to the season and a lot more effort will have to be put in next week to stop the same thing from happening this season.

Chesman: Social are stronger

Jamie Chesman has warned Welton’s rivals he knows what went wrong at Social Park last season and how to stop it happening again.The Socialites finished 2nd in the Premier League again in the 2010-11 campaign, Despite an unbelievable end to the season which saw them lose just one game in 2011, The Socialites were unable to recover from a poor start which saw them embark on their worst run in the Premier League for almost 7 years.

Everyone appeared to have an opinion on the reasons behind the malaise, from injuries, to the loss of experienced players.

So concerned were the squad about what manager Al Taylor repeatedly branded the "bad moment" that they held talks to discuss it towards the end of last season.

And Chesman believes that not enough strength in depth was the reason but he insisted on Thursday that Welton have learned their lesson and can prevent history repeating itself this Year.

"If ever that does arise again, we can snap out of that really quickly," said the veteran defender speaking at his Welton home.

"The sign of a good team is to bounce back if we do suffer a defeat and get together and pull together.

"I think we realised where we went wrong, You cant go to teams like Victory with the squad we had at the start of last season.

"You're going to have people missing throughout the season – this time round we are going to have enough quality to cope with that."

Despite their slump, Welton went close to completing the greatest comeback in Premier League history last season.

But Chesman acknowledged they had ultimately surrendered the title to FSC Victory in the opening weeks of the season.

"We lost points against teams we maybe should have beaten,"

"I'm really optimistic about this year and I think if we play at our best consistently, which we didn't do last year, we stand a real chance."

With the additions that Welton have made all eyes will be on Al Taylor’s team selection for their Premier League opener against Ivy Tavern on the 28th of August is eagerly anticipated and although Chesman appears a certain starter, the veteran is taking nothing for granted.

Chesman has been an ever present when available but admitted he began to fret last season that he could be axed.

The summer arrival of several new players has compounded that uncertainty for the defender, who has been the backbone of his side for almost 3 seasons.

"I feared losing my place last year and many other things," said Chesman.

"It's a fresh start for everyone, this summer.

“anyone can lose their place.

"We all come in fighting for our places so we're all keen to see what the starting XI is going to be against Ivy in a couple of Weeks and it’s important that we use our remaining two warm up games well to ensure that everybody deserves to be in the starting eleven."

Daly wants more signings

Welton Sports manager Mark Daly has revealed he would still love to sign up to six more new players before the transfer window closes.
The Sportsmans boss has been bolstering his squad so far this summer with a host of acquisitions but has hinted that he still wants more and more players, speculation chairman Clive Wilkinson recently confirmed.

Daly is unwilling to add any more fuel to the transfer fire, stating only that he will talk about transfers once they have been completed.

"What the chairman says, he says, but as far as I'm concerned deals should be done between clubs," he told Sky Sports News.

"I think too much gets out. We should really get on with it between club and club. You talk about one club and two individuals, but we've been talking to other clubs as well about other players.

"That's the way hopefully we'll do our business. When it happens, it happens.

"You (the media) can speculate because you have to fill your time and space and I understand it.

"I think we're looking for about five or six players if we can. We could do with desperately getting those players in as quickly as possible, but we have to do it within the structure of this football club.

Lee Coupland believes new signing Matt O Halloran will keep Welton S&SC as genuine title contenders this season.The Socialites have made O’Halloran their latest big-money buy, splashing out £3.80 to capture the former Boston United star.

O’Halloran starred in Sundays opening game against Bailgate Athletic grabbing his first goal for the Socialites and Coupland, reckons that O‘Halloran could take the club to the next level.

"He's settling in really well," Coupland said at the Premier League season launch.
"I think his ability is really high and I think he can bring a lot to the football club."

"with the signings we've made so far it brings great competition for places which is important to keep everyone on their toes."

Welton won silverware for the third successive season winning last season's Kelly Read Cup and after adding Barry McGann and O’Halloran to their squad, Coupland reckons they are ready for bigger and better things.

Welton S&SC have finally signed former Ruston Sports and FSC Victory striker Barry McGann for an undisclosed fee - believed to be around £6.50 - the club have confirmed.McGann has put pen to paper on an initial three-year contract with the option for a further 12 months.

He becomes Socialites head coach Al Taylor’s second signing of the summer along with Taylors other transfer coup Matt O Halloran.

McGann made a brief appearance in last Sundays friendly against Bailgate Athletic where he was unveiled to the Social Park crowd as a second half substitute.

McGann has been Welton head coach Al Taylor’s number one striker target throughout the summer to provide support for last season's pairing of Billy Munro and League top scorer Scott Coupland.

Taylor told WSSCFC.blogspot.com: "Barry is one of the most talented strikers in the Premier League and I'm delighted to welcome him to the club.

Taylor believes he is close to ending his summer recruitment with the capture of McGann and O Halloran.

Welton S&SC got their pre season campaign off to a winning start with a 5-3 win against a youthful Bailgate Athletic side. Welton lead through goals from Scott Coupland, New signing Matt O Halloran, Leigh Warman and a brace from Billy Munro before the game was abandoned in the 75th minute due to a serious injury to the Bailgate Goalkeeper.

Welton were without Ross Taylor, Jason Tinkler and Jack McGovern for their opening game of the 2011/12 campaign but were able to unveil new signings Matt O Halloran in the centre of midfield and Barry McGann who started on the bench.

Welton looked in good nick going forward playing some lovely football at times in the middle and attacking thirds of the pitch but an abject performance from the defence meant that Welton never had things completely their own way and they fell behind when a hopeful ball forward was headed back weakly by Snookes to McGann the pacey Bailgate forward nipped in to lob over McGann and give the visitors the lead.

Welton weren’t behind for long though and a good move down the left hand side saw Billy Munro pull the ball back for Scott Coupland to finish well with a first time shot.

The impressive Munro was once again the provider as Welton took the lead on the half hour mark when he again surged down the left to pull back for Sam Allmond who’s shot was well saved before Matt O Halloran made no mistake with the loose ball.

Weltons defensive frailties continued to be their downfall though and Bailgate drew level when a left wing cross was headed home past Phil McGann who by his own admission probably ought to have kept the effort out.

Welton made two changes at half time with Ian Tinkler replacing Joe Snookes and Barry McGann making his first appearance in place of Scott Coupland.

Welton appeared to have a more serious attitude to the game at the start of the second half and promptly regained the lead through an unfamiliar source when Leigh Warman rose superbly at the back post to loop a header back across goal from Billy Munro’s second attempt at a right wing corner after Matt O Halloran had rescued his first attempt and played it back to him.

It wasn’t long before the impressive Munro registered his first goal of the season turning well inside the left hand side of the area and lashing a shot into the far corner with his left foot.

Munro doubled his tally when a neat move down the right lead to Matt O Halloran whipping in an excellent cross for Munro to power home at the back post with his head.

Welton began to role on some more changes and before the defence had time to re adjust to their new formation Bailgate grabbed themselves a consolation goal to make it 5-3.

Welton were continueing to play some lovely football going forward though with Barry McGann and Billy Munro linking up well together up front.

Welton were looking like they might add to their haul until an unfortunate serious looking injury to the Bailgate goalkeeper who injured his knee whilst diving bravely at the feet of Barry McGann but no blame what so ever was attached to the Welton forward.

With the serious nature of the injury referee Steve Fisher blew the final whistle 15 minutes early leaving the final score at 5-3

Welton Manager Al Taylor has confirmed that talisman Scott Coupland will officially continue to be club captain for the upcoming season.
Coupland, 25, who has been Weltons leading scorer for the last 3 seasons, wore the captain's armband last Year as he lead Welton to the Kelly Read and Ron Eaglen Cup Finals.

Taylor said: "Scotty will be our captain this season. We've got other people in the team who could be captain, but they all lead in different ways.

"I think scotty’s thrived on the responsibility that he's been given. He knows the Club inside out, he loves the club and he leads by example."

" I was asked to compare Welton Sports to my former Club Cherry Knights. I responded by saying that I thought welton could be as good as cherry one day," he told the Daily Star Sunday.

"When I said Welton Sports could be as good, I truly believed it and I still do. We have a way to go to match those teams but it is our aim.

"With the ambition that the club has shown in the last few seasons and the way we are improving as a group, I think other clubs are now starting to take notice of the new Welton Sports AFC.

"Hopefully we can match and beat Premier League sides like Scothern and one day work our way up to the Premier League.”

Welton S&SC have announced their pre season friendly dates with games scheduled against RM Imps, Crows Athletic and Nettleham as Manager Al Taylor continues his sides preperations for their league opener against Ivy Tavern on the 28th of August.

RM Imps of the WJ Harrison League visit Social Park on the 7th of August the Socialites will then trail out to Coleby to face last Years Kelly Read Cup Semi Final opponents Crows before completing their pre season programme against local rivals Nettleham at Social Park on the 21st.

"It's a good mixture of teams." said Taylor

"I feel Crows and Nettleham can count themselves unlucky not to be in the Premier League this season and they both caused us problems when we played them last season."

"We don't know a great deal about the Imps but any game is a good game at this stage of pre season."

Welton are expected to unveil several new signings against RM Imps but manager Taylor was keeping his cards fairly close to his chest.

"We're in adavanced talks with a couple of lads, We are just waiting for the right time to officially announce anything regarding new recruits for next season."

Snookes staying sociable

Sleaford born defender Joe Snookes has signed a new three-year contract at Welton S&SC, ending weeks of speculation over his Social Park future.
The solid defenders previous deal expired at the end of last month and it was uncertain whether he would remain at Social Park with a host of top teams vying for his signature.

However, Snookes ended the speculation last night and is looking forward to once again playing for Welton.

"I spoke to the other lads and they told me a lot of positive things.” he told the club's official website.

"I already knew I was going to sign the contract but I have been busy settling in to my new home and enjoying a bit of time off after a hectic end to last season. I am very happy at Welton and now it is time to get down to work."

Al Taylor drove to Lincoln to speak to Snookes personally while negotiations were ongoing.

Snookes added: "It was a good act for him to do that. It was something I appreciated and it made me happy."

Coupland fully committed to Socialites

Welton captain Scott Coupland has reacted angrily to claims that he has fallen out with the club and has put pen to paper on a new contract for next season.

Reports last Week suggested that Coupland was unhappy at Social Park but Weltons players player of the season for last term laughed off reports and signed a new contract to prove his loyalty.

The 25-year-old, who was made captain for the 2010-11 season, says he is raring to go this season and can not wait to start training with Paul Warman this Thursday evening.

"I have no idea where this story about me wanting to leave has come from - it certainly has not come from myself or any of my representatives," Coupland said.

"I think I have always demonstrated that I am a proud player and captain of this club and nothing has changed in that respect.

"I have an excellent relationship with everyone at this club from the chairman, to the players to the supporters and I wouldn't want false reporting such as this to impact on that.

"There has been absolutely no fallout with anyone whatsoever. I have four years left on my contract now and have no issues regarding it whatsoever. It is an honour to be captain of this football club and my sole focus is on getting ready for the new season."

Welton Sports AFC have announced that their new home kit for the 2011/12 season will be supplied by Errea.
The strip pictured above is a throwback to the vintage Welton Boys colours of purple and white and secretary James Mulhall says that the new deal with Errea can really push the old reserve team forward.

“Our old kit was a bit shabby to be honest.” Said Mulhall

“We want to give ourselves our own identity now as we are looking to come out of the shadows of Welton S&SC and lose our reserve team tag.”

Welton Ivy set for television date

Sky Sports have announced that they intend to screen live Sills and Betteridge Lincoln Sunday Premier League games this season.

Kelly Read Cup winners Welton S&SC’s interesting opening game against new boys Ivy Tavern will be televised on the opening weekend as Sky Sports kicks off a new season of live Premier League coverage.

A spokesman for Sky confirmed that Welton against Ivy had been selected for the opening weekend as both Adelaide and FSC Victory are expected to record easy victories.

“Welton against Ivy is the stand out fixture from the opening weekend.” Said the Sky spokesman.

“Ivy are many peoples dark horses to do well this season and they have been given a real baptism of fire when they face Welton who are always fancied to be there or there abouts at the start of the season so there will be a lot of interest in this fixture to kick off our Sunday League coverage.”

In consultation with the Premier League, Sky Sports has confirmed 30live games across the season, with every match available in HD and selected matches in 3D including Welton against Ivy. Welton will be hoping to celebrate on the 28th of August

Cosgrove denies £10 wage demand

Welton S&SC midfielder Craig Cosgrove has dismissed speculation he is holding out for £10 a week before signing a new contract.
The 23-year-old starred for the Socialites last season scoring in the Kelly Read Cup final at Sincil Bank and is in talks with the Socialites about an extension.

Reports have suggested Cosgrove is looking for a two-figure weekly salary, something the Welton star strongly denies.

"I notice that one (newspaper) was claiming this weekend that I was demanding £10 per week before I sign a new contract at welton," Cosgrove told wsscfc.blogspot.com.

"That is nonsense. They don't know what has been said, offered, or asked for, so instead they just make up a figure which makes everyone think that I am being greedy.

"It's annoying but I suppose it goes with the territory these days."

Daly eyes a derby in the Cup

Welton sports AFC boss Mark Daly is eying a plum tie against one of their neighbours in any of the three Cup competitions they are now entered into when the draws are announced this weekend along with the League fixtures.
The Revamped reserve team are now eligible to play in the Kelly Read, Ron Eaglen and County Cups.

"We know we're going to be up against some big teams, so it's going to be tough and that’s what we want," said Daly.

"But it would be great if we got the chance to take on one of our neighbours because we are so used to watching the first team in all their big derbies against Scothern and Nettleham it would be nice for us to take centre stage."

“For Years it has always been one of the first matches everyone connected with Welton looks out for when it’s Welton against Scothern and every time Welton against Nettleham gets drawn out in the Cups, we are looking to start our own rivalries with some good teams like that.”

Wilkinson excited by African adventure

Welton S&SC are set to open a soccer school in the Cape Verde Islands by the end of this year, following a successful visit by chairman Clive Wilkinson.

According to a report posted in African online news, this training concept that is already operational in Europe is set to be opened very soon.

Wilkinson has been keen to strengthen Welton’s links with Africa and sanctioned a two Week scourting mission for players representative Will Carter last December, with the Welton star playing in several matches against Cape Verdean natives. Wilkinson was so excited about the feedback that he instantly pressed ahead with building the academy that is now close to completion.

The lucky boys and girls who will be admitted in these schools will be taught by professional coaches with Paul Warman expected to be sent over to live on the Cape Verdean island of Sal to oversee the coaching side of things until the academy is up and running, Warman will teach the basics of football and especially the playing style of Welton.

The teaching practices will be based on the principles and methods of Welton manager Al Taylor that he has developed and implemented during his 14 years of technical management of Welton.

Wilkinson returned from a two week visit to the academy recently and was very positive about his investment.

About this programme, Wilkinson said; “We are delighted to be starting Welton S&SC Soccer Schools across North Africa, giving more children the opportunity to become involved in football.”

“The vision of Social Soccer Schools is to promote a positive learning environment in which young players can both improve their understanding of the game, developing young player technical skills and gain confidence as individuals and we are confident these new sessions will be immensely popular with the Africans.”

Stocks: No rush on transfer hunt

Neil Stocks is confident Welton will dip into the transfer market when the time is right, rather than just for the sake of it.
The Socialites have been surprisingly quiet this summer, with plenty of speculation doing the rounds but little actual activity being carried out.

As far as Stocks is concerned Welton are taking a sensible approach, with it important not to waste money bringing in players who offer nothing to the current squad.

"I think there is no hurry to get new players," he told Sky Sports News. "Welton at the moment, with this squad, is quiet in the transfer market but that doesn't have to be the case in a week or 10 days."

While the Socialites have yet to show their hand during the summer window, Adelaide and Victory have made a host of new signings.

“Adelaide have had to make signings to catch up with us and Victory and I expect them to be very strong this season.”

“With the quality that we have already here I think we are taking a sensible approach this Year.”

Welton S&SC manager Al Taylor will step up his summer recruitment drive ahead of the start of pre-season training in a couple of weeks.

Taylor has made no firm bids for any players as of yet however, Taylor is keen to further bolster a squad which again delivered the Kelly Read Cup, and narrowly missed out on the Ron Eaglen Cup on penalties.

“We are looking at bolstering our squad because we know our rivals have added strength and quality to their squads but our main priority at the minute is keeping last Years team together as I believe that from January onwards we were by far and away the best team in Lincoln.”

“The 14 lads we had week in week out from January onwards are good enough to have a very good crack at winning silverware again this season.”

“I’ve had talks with all of the lads and those talks have gone well and we are looking at one or two players coming in to add quality and depth and I expect to see a few developments in the coming weeks.”

"I know a few people have been suprised with our lack of activity so far but we want to ensure that we get the right players in."

Desperate Welton Sports AFC star Bradley Brooks has applied to be a contestant on the next series of popular ITV show Take Me out in a futile bid to find his soul mate and clear his name after recent allegations about his sordid private life.
“I’m killing two birds with one stone.” Said Brooks

“I’m going on the show to try and find my true Love and what better stage to show the nation that I’m not such a bad Guy afterall than on TV in front of an audience of Millions.”

“I’m fairly confident that I’ll have a lot of lights on at the end and I’ll get a date because in one of the rounds you get to show off a skill and I’m going to showcase all of my football skills for the Girls which is bound to impress them.”

“I’ve been working on my chat up lines as well, I went up into the loft the other Day and found my old dream phone game, So I’ve been trying my one liners on their, I know it’s talking to Guys but it all helps.”

Brooks also talked briefly about footballing matters saying that he is really looking forward to next season in Division 2 and getting to have a crack at the big Cup competitions.

Taylor: League is even harder

Welton manager Al Taylor believes the Premier League is getting more competitive as his side gear up for another push at the Premier League title.
The Socialites are expected to feature among the frontrunners in the race to the summit, yet Taylor is wary of the threat posed by their rivals.

"I hear people say Welton should be winning the League regularly and it's true, but if you look around the League, you could say that about a lot of teams in the league," he told the club's official website.

"There are some big, big clubs in this division. It's a tough league when you look at the clubs that have come up aswell the likes of Ivy Tavernand Horncastle, as well as the obvious sides that will be challenging again, you can argue it will be even harder next season.

“Even teams like Hykeham, Swan and Jerusalem have great players so there are in my opinion no easy games this Year for us where as in previous Years you could look at some teams and think that there’s a guaranteed six points their.

"We're looking forward to the challenge though. The countdown has started. We'll be back in pre-season training in two weeks. The excitement of knowing a new season is around the corner will be there and we'll be ready to go on August 28th."

Welton S&SC winger Jason Tinkler has vowed not to rest on his laurels after a stunning debut season at Social Park.
Tinkler, scored 28 goals for the Socialites in 2010/11 following his arrival from GE Rustons last summer, to help Welton win the Kelly Read Cup and reach the Ron Eaglen Cup final.

And he has no plans to be a one-season wonder.

The 22-year-old said: "I am very happy that, as a squad, we won some silverware. “

"Our team has such soul and such spirit.

"Success is written into the DNA of this club. I'm at the best club in Lincolnshire.

"Everything is done to succeed and win things. There is only the Ron Eaglen defeat that sticks in the throat as we were very unlucky.

"Personally, I am extremely happy with my season, but I do not rest on my laurels. I want to do even better next season. I want to help this club to make history."

He admitted his goal tally had taken even him by surprise.

"Early in the season, I thought I would have limited playing time, or very limited," he said.

"Basically, the aim for the season was essentially to adapt to Weltons passing style, especially physically. But gradually I got more confident, scoring a few goals early in the season.

"Everything was so fast. I could not have hoped for it. I had a dream season."

Tinkler says his team's 9-4 win at Adelaide was when he really felt comfortable as a Welton player.

"There was a game that really made me realise that I could have an interesting season. It was the match against Adelaide in which I scored five”, he said.

"Throughout the match, I felt perfectly at ease in the game. I felt like I had been playing for Welton for 10 years!

"Thanks to my team-mates, I could express myself freely on the pitch. I think it was the pivotal game in my season. I will remember it all my life."
