Welton midfielder, Sam Gordon cannot wait to become part of Ron Eaglen cup history as he prepares to help Welton Sports & Social Club avoid a first-round upset on Sunday.
The Sudbrooke born midfielder (pictured below) is set to continue on the right side of midfield for the game this weekend when the Socialites travel to Division 6 side, Peter De Wint.
The trip to Skellingthorpe Road is perceived to be a real banana skin for Alistair Taylor’s side with De Wint chairman Brian Fairclough intent on fulfilling his ambition of taking his newly formed outfit all the way up the footballing ladder.
But Gordon, who spoke of his admiration for the competition's 137-year history, is intent on not letting Welton make the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
"I cannot wait to play my first game of the season in the Ron Eaglen cup, because this competition is one of the biggest in the world" said the midfielder who had 4-assists last Sunday.
"It's very exciting this competition and I am looking forward when we play De Wint on Sunday.
"Obviously we want to go one step further than last year and lift the trophy, but we should just take one step at a time and hopefully we will avoid Millers until the final.
"But they will make it very difficult for us. Just because they are in Division 6 we cannot take them lightly.
"They are in a good run of form which means they must have a lot of good players and they will think about making physical contact every time we get the ball.
