High 5’s For Welton In The Fred Quibbel
Welton went through to the next round of the Fred Quibbel in flying colours, despite a lack lustre performance. Welton arrived at Sudbrooke Drive to face Division 3 side The Shed who were sat 4th in the table. It became apparent early on that The Shed’s strengths were going forward, with what can only be described diabolical defenders and a calamitous keeper.
Welton’s passing was less than crisp and the overall play was not attractive to watch but continual howlers at the back gave Welton chance after chance, which they began to put away. Matt Gordon began to run the show up front with a strong show of strength, good touches, and power. The first goal was a terrific lob over the advancing keeper, whose penalty box must have been on fire as he couldn’t keep still at all coming for anything or anything.
Mayhem told the boys after he used to play with these lads a few seasons ago, hence explaining the hap-hazard goalkeeping. Welton continued to suffer scares at the back, with shots raining in on the keeper, and a couple rebounding off the post. The second goal was gifted again to Gordon, when the keeper attempted to throw the ball only to loft it directly into the air and onto the predatory striker’s foot, to the dismay of the 4 home fans. Relatively new boy from Royal Mail Sports ‘BIG KEV’ as he’s known to the new adoring fans, had a clear cut penalty appeal turned down, when he was cynically taken down from behind.
The second half was much better from Welton after receiving the Scally F****n rocket up the whole teams arses. The football flowed much better and the Shed resistance couldn’t hold up with Mayhem rarely troubled. Further goals were added by Gordon and penalty from big Kev after Jonesy was crudely attacked in the penalty area. There captain went on to see red after pulling Gordon back when clean through on goal. The resulting free kick from Carlile was arrowing into the top corner until it was saved by the out stretched arm of the wall which the referee failed to see and only gave a corner.
The resulting corner however brought justice as Munn swung over a corner directly onto Carlile's head, who powered it home from about 9 yards to make it 5-0. The game ended and the Welton Army marched on to the next round.
