Lurchy’s tips

I write my latest tips column with trepidation after leading the thousands of www.wsscfc.blogspot.com readers astray with false predictions last weekend. After calls for the sack from many forum regulars, in particular Turtle Neck, I have a point to prove this weekend.

Last week’s opening tip for the Welton v FSC Victory Ron Eaglen Cup clash to feature less than four goals, in theory, looked a good shout, however The Socialites attacking power resulted in a 4-2 win for the hosts.

To make matters worse my donut bet spectacularly came in when Jaz Dhindsa justified his 14/1 odds of scoring at any time by clinically firing past his own keeper. I should have known better.

My hat-trick bet would have been on course had Derby beaten QPR, however Nigel Clough’s charges pitifully went down 2-0 at Pride Park.

My 47/1 accumulator was two results away – Dunfermline and Cowdenbeath the guilty parties.

My outsider also fell flat on its face when Ali Carter lost in the quarter-finals of the Masters to eventual winner Ronnie O’Sullivan 6-2.

So to this week. On Sunday Welton make the pilgrimage to lowly FVA Jerusalem aiming to keep their title-winning bid on course.

Big Al’s men head to Skellingthorpe buoyed by league leaders GE Millers’ failure to beat rivals Clayton Sports last Sunday.

Jonny Bell’s Jerusalem return to action looking to make amends following their heavy 6-2 defeat at Rustons and are in grave danger of making a swift exit back into Division One.

If the home side are to pick up anything on Sunday they will be relying on strong performances from Bell and Forbes brothers Matthew and Luke.

If Welton are to snatch the Premier League title they need to improve on the road. A defeat away from fortress Social Park at Claytons and dropped points at FSC Victory have seen Big Al’s men slip nine points off top spot.

After reverting to a 4-4-2 formation for the first time this season last weekend, Welton looked more solid at the back, only for Dhindsa to spectacularly bring Victory back into the game.

The Reepham Toft resident joins Sam Gordon on the unavailable list for this weekend, James Drabble is still struggling with a rib injury and Tom Wilkinson (hamstring) is rated 50/50.

Will Carter could make a popular return to the starting XI at right-back, with Tom Bowey and Craig Wilkinson also pushing for starts.

Here are this weekends winners.
