Taylor – Bring on Millers
Welton manager Alastair Taylor admits the prospect of gaining revenge on GE Millers in the Ron Eaglen semi-final has whetted the appetite of his squad.
Welton still have to overcome Swan Athletic in the quarter-final before they can start planning for a home tie with the Premier League leaders, but know that a date with Burkey’s side is the prize that awaits them in the semi-finals.
The Socialites were unfortunate not to get the last eight clash against Swan played but snow had left the Social Park pitch in an unplayable state. Taylor accepts that a tough test now awaits them against the Division One promotion hopefuls on Sunday, but the Scotsman believes his players will head into the match in confident mood.
"I think playing in the quarter-final is important enough, but I think the draw will have both clubs looking forward to playing the best club in the world at the moment," he told Sky Sports News."
I think we have to stay focused on Swan and be realistic. Swan are a very good Division One side, they are playing away from home and have nothing to lose. "We have a tough test in front of us but it is one we will look forward to and enjoy."
Swan skipper Dave Sampher was full of praise for the way Welton have remained on course for a quadruple winning season after remaining in all this season’s competitions.
"I really admire Al and his career," Sampher said.
"He has been through some different environments in football and he has been successful in all of them. "To manage teams like Welton is special. He is also a true gentleman and we admire Al and will look forward to facing him soon."
