Welton welcomed back Rick Ossai in goal and were able to name a largely unchanged side with the same back four that shut out Nettleham at the weekend and the same midfield four. Up front were James Drabble and Scott Coupland.
Welton started well and played some good football at times but perhaps with the Cup Finals looming large the Welton players minds began to wander more towards staying injury free for those games than beating a pretty poor Metheringham side.
Scott Coupland forced a good save from the Metheringham goalkeeper when he turned sharply in the box and fired low. But that was the only real chance Welton created.
At the other end Rick Ossai was forced to make an excellent save from the Metheringham midfielder who should have done better when sent through one on one.
Half Time 0-0
Welton seized the imitative at the start of the second period and took the lead straight away through Luke Clifford. Clifford linked up well with Scott Coupland who sent Clifford through one on one with the keeper. Clifford made no mistake lobbing the ball over the keeper and into the net.
As was the case with the Tower game though the flood gates didn’t open and a subdued Welton appeared to be going through the motions somewhat in the second half and they were greatful on more than one occasion to Ossai who pulled off two world class saves to ensure Welton kept their third clean sheet in a row.
Full time Welton 1-0 Metheringham

Can We have you?
Now he’s apparently out of favour with Metheringham surely it won’t be long before Gio is back at Social Park.
You’re not very good!
Number 6. Not a bad player just very annoying for some reason.
