Versatile Social impress Taylor

Welton boss Al Taylor hopes the versatility of his players will help see them through a potentially thrilling conclusion to the season.Taylor has been forced to make do and mend in recent weeks with winger Olly Furness lining up at right back in the 5-0 Ron Eaglen Semi Final win at Claytons last weekend, and forward Craig Cosgrove lining up on the left wing against Nettleham in the Kelly Read Cup.

Many of the changes have been forced on the manager, but some of them have been tactical, and he is delighted to have that flexibility within what is a relatively small squad.

He said: "You have to remember that when you have had success, teams are going to come and nullify you and start working on ways to beat you, and you have got to keep asking different questions.

"Olly and Craig had different roles in the last couple of weeks, and they could have different roles again.

"But everyones application and attitude to them has been first-class and they have attacked the job that was at hand.

"If my players do that and take that as a lesson, then we are going to be okay."

The Socialites were more than okay at Social Park at the Weekend as they produced their best 45 minutes of football for some time to blow the Nettles away before the break.

However, a still taxing run-in, which will see Welton play more games than anyone else including two finals, a semi final and 5 must win league games in the space of a month means they can take nothing for granted.

The fact that influential winger Luke Clifford could miss up to half of those games is a major concern, although Taylor is optimistic that he will only miss a couple of them.

Clifford missed the victory over Nettleham, but saw Billy Munro deputise well once again, and while Taylor will be hoping to get the powerhouse winger back as soon as possible, he is equally pleased that his side has shown it can cope without one of its key players.

He said: "We have won without Luke this weekend, and we won without him when he was away in Australia at the start of the season.

"I am not saying that as a negative because he is a massive player for us, but we can cope without him."
