Bridge Angling For Welton Deal

Welton Sports & Social boss 'Big' Al Taylor is closing in on a sensational swoop for Anglers FC striker Craig Bridge according to the Welton News.
In another day of activity at Social Park, the Welton chief revealed he was locked in talks with Anglers FC, after agreeing to part company with striker Simon Ward.
Big Al Taylor met with Anglers FC officials yesterday and admitted he was hopeful of striking a deal for the prolific 23yr old hit-man who topped the Division Two scoring charts with 33 goals last season.
Taylor has already attempt to sign Bridge once before, when the striker was still at school, and he believes he would be a superb acquisition for his title-chasing outfit. “I’ve heard a lot about Craig's talents and he is a player who I think would do a fantastic job for us, and would be a wonderful capture,” said Taylor. “He is only 23, he is a hard-worker and is a proven goalscorer in these leagues. With the squad that I have got, his extra goals would be an excellent asset, especially to lessen the burden on Ronnie (James Drabble) in that department. He has held talks with Anglers FC about his future, but given our status in the league and the ambition of the club I am hopeful he will come on board and be part of what I’m trying to achieve.”
It is thought that Bridge was looking to commit his future to Anglers FC but talks over a lucrative new deal stalled, leaving the player free to explore other options.

Jones Calls Time On Welton Career

Michael Jones was not happy at Welton according to Social Club boss Al Taylor following the goalkeeper's departure from Social Park.
Taylor admitted the player had revealed that he was unhappy with life at the club after hearing of potential interest from Sunday League new-boys Welton FC back in May.
The club and the player have been locked in negotiations over a severance deal for the past month, with Jones finally accepting his offer yesterday. Taylor said that he didn’t want to keep a player who is not in the right frame of mind.
“I do feel a bit for Jonesy (Jones), who I do believe had his head turned by Welton FC back in May,” said Taylor. “Mike has made it quite clear to me that he was unhappy and I think the whole episode upset him a little bit. I don’t want to keep a player who doesn’t want to be here because I am trying to build a Premier League winning squad. It is a shame because me and Mike go back a long way and I would like to wish him all the best for the future. I don’t think he will be short of offers, in fact I know he has already been offered a deal by a Division 6 club.”

Clifford Contract Saga Concluded

Welton defender Simon Clifford has signed a new contract with Welton following speculation about his future with the village club.
The 23-year-old told the Social Club's website: "I met the chairman a couple of weeks ago and I think he realised I always wanted to stay at the club if the price was right. I'm delighted with the deal. It's good to get it settled."
Delighted Welton manager Al Taylor said: "He had a great debut season last year."
Clifford was an outstanding player in the Ron Eaglen Cup final, the Sills & Betteridge Premier League and the Kelly Read Cup after moving from rivals Waddington in the summer of 2007.
He signed on a free transfer, but his form has led to him being linked to other clubs in the Premier League in Lincoln during the close season.
Clifford had looked likely to leave Social Park after snubbing several contract offers from Welton, but the first choice centre-back managed to clinch a new deal after a stalemate deemed to end his short but sweet affiliation with the club.
"He's come to club as a big player and is has now established himself firmly as a Welton first-team star and that's testament to his hard work and ability, his new contract reflects that" added manager Taylor.
Despite signing a new deal with Welton, Clifford has upset sections of the Social Park faithful with the way he went about negotiations and will have to impress next season in order to prove his loyalty to the village outfit.

Welton pair attempt peace pact

Welton co-owners Paul Brewer and Andy Otterwell are attempting to mend their broken relationship. The Welton pair have been at odds in a series of rows, with Sports & Social manager Alistair Taylor also involved in differences behind the scenes. Brewer had previously described his partnership with Otterwell as "unworkable". But he told Welton radio station Radio Welton: "It's fair to say communication between the Brewer's and the Otterwells has been substantially improved." Earlier this year, it was reported that Brewer had agreed to sell his stake in the club to Deloitte, the investment arm of the tycoon Tom Bowey.
606: DEBATE
But he refused to say whether improved relations with Otterwell meant he now wished to continue his involvement with the club. Brewer said: "Time is a healer and there were things that had happened previously. It took a while for both of us to realise that we weren't communicating very well and the huge responsibility we have to the fans to do the right thing for the club." Welton fans have been divided over which side to take during the Brewer - Otterwell feud, with many unhappy with both parties. Brewer admitted to being taken aback by the passion of the club's supporters but vowed to live up to his responsibility as joint custodian at Social Park. He said: "Soccer is the leading sport in the world and it's just shocking how popular Welton is. So it surprised me, but it really is an amazing responsibility. "We've always felt that for the 40-plus years I've been around professional sport that we really hold these assets in trust for the fans and that we have an obligation to the fans." Brewer insisted he was now concentrating on backing Taylor’s attempts to improve on Welton's trophy-less campaign last season. "All of us are focused on the transfer window and we want to be ready for that and we want to have adequate resources and good communication with Al and our hope is that we're making better progress, " he said. "What did I think of last season's performance? I'd rather let the fans make that decision. But for a club that has a history of winning trophies, any season that you don't win one of the five or six trophies that we compete for, I suspect the fans, as well as the Brewers' and Otterwells, are disappointed. "We have to help Al try and be more competitive in the chase for the Premier League."

Curtis Signs New Deal With Welton

Welton Sports & Social Club winger Mark Curtis has agreed to stay at Social Park for another season. The 22-year-old was one of a group of out-of-contract players who were offered new deals this summer.
The speedy winger, who came through the club's youth ranks, has had several impressive seasons for Welton since being promoted from the U18's in 2004.
Curtis told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "I am more than happy to sign for another year and extend my stay at Welton." He added: "The gaffer [Al Taylor] is a good manager and he aims high all the time. He wants the treble for Welton S&S this season, the Premier League, Kelly Read and the Ron Eaglen Cup at a minumum. I am looking forward to coming back and kicking off the new season with a win."
'Big' Al Taylor has had a busy summer so far with Bowey, Jones, Stafford and Johnson all leaving the club and Jason Tinkler the only new arrival so far. Coupland, L.Clifford and now Curtis have all signed new deals whilst (Simon) Clifford's and (Sam) Gordon's contracts remain unsigned. Gordon is widely expected to sign on the dotted line when he returns from holiday although S.Clifford's future is far from certain.

Simon Says: Show Me The Money

Simon Clifford has shocked Welton S&S by handing in a transfer request and sending out a clear 'come and get me' plea to champions GE Millers Arms.
The free-talking Welton defender told the Welton News that his decision was made up after the Ron Eaglen cup final.
"My decision is not football, it is purely based on money. I just want to be earning at the highest level and I believe that lies playing somewhere else." Clifford said. "At the Ron Eaglen final I had to watch as the Millers Arms lads arrived in their Civic Type-R's and their Golf GTI's and we had to make do with a mini bus. It hurt."
Clifford is thought to be annoyed that his brother, Luke, was handed a lucrative new contract at the end of the season along with several other stars and demanded an explanation for manager Taylor.
"Having met with the chairman (Paul Brewer) and the gaffer (Al Taylor), I have decided that my future lies elsewhere. To have ambition is one thing, but it needs to be backed up by money otherwise its just words" Clifford said. "There are clubs interested but it lies in Welton's hands. Managers want to keep their best players but my decision has been made and nobody could persuade me to change my mind unless I get a big big offer."

Clifford Snubs Final Offer

Simon Clifford's Welton S&SC future could be in doubt after the defender rejected a new four-year contract.
The 23-year-old, who is out of contract this summer, has been at the club for just one season, joining from local rivals Cherry Willingham.
"He has not agreed anything, which is entirely up to Simon, we feel we have made him a good offer," said Social Club boss Al Taylor. "We've met with his agent. They've rejected our last offer so that is the end of it. We won't be going back - it's up to him to come to us."
Clifford has been a regular for Welton this season, fitting into a new-look back three along side Carter and Taylor at centre-back. Big Al did not say if he would be talking further to Clifford, and admitted he could lose him on a free transfer at the beginning of July - but would not be held to ransom. "It's a possibility. It would be a disappointment," he said.
It was reported on the club's official site on 10th June that Clifford would join his brother Luke in pledging his immediate future to the club, but that now seems unlikely.

Welton Footballers charged with burglary

Two Premier league footballers have been charged with burglary in connection with the theft of items from a York nightclub.
Welton Sports and Social Football Club striker James Drabble, 23, and defender Jaspaul Dhindsa, 22, will appear before Lincoln magistrates on 8 July.
They were arrested in early June over claims that items were taken from the Gallery nightclub, York, on 31st May.
Welton S&SCFC has declined to comment on the case.
James Drabble, of Spital Street, Lincoln, is the son of former Scothern and Lincolnshire Cricket player Richard Drabble and the-brother of Nettleham player Jonathan Drabble and Welton striker Joseph Drabble.
Jaz Dhindsa, of Reepham Toft, was a member of Welton's youth team before playing for the Premier league club.
Both are known alcoholics and both only narrowly escaped the sack from Welton S&SCFC over other incidents on the 31st of May 2008.
Staff members at the nightclub claim three mobile phones, £145 in cash, student cards and cigarettes went missing from three handbags.
Police launched an investigation when a group of men were filmed on CCTV entering the unlocked staff room. The pair were charged after answering police bail at Lincoln central police station.
Evidence: these shocking images were captured by members of the public on the 31st May 08

Carter praying for new Social deal

Defender Will Carter has called on Welton S&SC to offer him a new contract as he enters the final 12 months of his current three-year deal.

The 22-year-old has indicated he would like to stay with the Social on a long-term basis.
But the Welton player also hinted he may be prepared to wind down his contract if Social do not offer him the package he feels he deserves.
Carter, who has been at Social Park for five years, said: "My agent has been into the club for a chat and we are now waiting for them to come back to us with an offer.
"I have worked hard to get where I have and to help the club and I believe I deserve a new contract offer.
"You never know what sort of contract you are going to be offered. It's got to be right for me and for my family and we will see what the club comes back with.
"If it's not right for my family then I will play the season with the Social, hopefully help to win the Premier League and then see what my options are next summer."
Carter added: "Of course, it would be nice to sort things out this summer.
"If the club come back with the right offer then I would be happy to sign a new contract.
"I have enjoyed my time here and hopefully the fans appreciate what I have done at the club. We have a really good team spirit and I have always considered myself to be a team player."

Gord-On For Sensational Return

Welton S&SC boss Al Taylor has revealed that he has plans to carry out a swoop for ex-Social Club defender Matt Gordon this summer.
Taylor has been expected to strengthen his back-line as he looks to rework his side ahead of the 2008/09 term.
Centre-back Gordon, who left Social Park in 2007, has remained clubless since last summer and has constantly been linked with a move back to the village outfit, with Taylor publicly expressing his interest in the 27-year-old.
"I have been interested in Matt Gordon ever since he was 16 and it was sad to see him leave the club last year," Taylor told The Welton News. "There is somebody I need for my team's defensive department - I want that somebody to be Matt. I know him very, very well and I hope he will be a Welton player again next season - and you can print that."
The fiery Scotsman further hinted that perhaps there is still more space in his impressive squad for next season. "I know all the good local players. Welton are following a number of them with great interest, although I won't name names."
Recently, Welton's defence came under fire in a fan's poll cast over which departments need fortifying during the transfer window and it seems Taylor will be looking to reassure fans with some shrewd investments this summer.

Welton Confirm Neave Interest

Welton Sports & Social Club have confirmed they are interested in signing Nettleham's experienced goalkeeper Mark Neave.
The village outfit would have to pay compensation for the 22-year-old, who has been offered a new deal by Nettleham.
Social Club's assistant manager Mac Sawyer told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "We're a little short of competition in that position after losing Michael Jones and Paul Stafford.
"Neave is one of a number of players we're interested in, but it hasn't really gone any further than that yet."
Big Al Taylor currently only has one goalkeeper at his disposal since the departures of Jones (released) and Stafford (mutual termination) and is thought to have been impressed with Neave, a former Welton youth, when the two sides met in the Kelly Reed semi-final this season.
Welton have been linked with a host of big names recently and the potential acquisition of Neave is another mouth-watering prospect for the fans.

Drabble - I'm Staying Put

In-demand striker James Drabble has made it clear he has no intention of leaving Welton S&SC.
The Estate Agent is currently on holiday as he looks to rest before next season. Drabble has had a series of sensational campaigns in the Lincoln Sunday Premier League following his move from Scothern 5 summers ago and he carried his form throughout last season, leading the club's scoring charts alongside professional joiner Scott Coupland.
But recently his ever-increasing playboy lifestyle has been subject to fierce debate amongst the Welton hierachy and it is thought that he was considering his future at the club. New FVA Jerusalem boss Jonny Bell was reportedly looking to test the waters with a massive bid for the casual assassin but Welton have already dismissed claims that they would consider selling Drabble and now the player has confirmed his intention to remain at Social Park.
"I want to say very clearly that I'm not on the market and that it's my desire to continue at Welton," he told the Welton News. "I'm very happy there and I want to carry on. I came to the club to win trophies. I have many years left on my contract and I expect to win some silverware there."
Drabble insists that he is hungrier than ever to win things with Welton."I have gone through things I have never experienced before, like playing in a Ron Eaglen final," he said. "Now that I have come within touching distance of glory I want it all. I know now what it means to be a champion and that's made me even happier and hungrier for success."
Drabble also dismissed suggestions that rumours of changes in the Welton backroom staff has unsettled him. "What has happened behind the scenes at the club has nothing to do with me. I don't pay much attention to that stuff or to any of the problems. It hasn't affected me at all." It is thought that performance analyst Lee Coupland is being lined up to replace Drabble's close allie Mac Sawyer as Big Al's right-hand man.

Welton Issue Warning On Drabble

Welton S&SC have dismissed claims that James Drabble could be tempted away from Social Park by a massive bid from Premiership new-boys FVA Jerusalem.
The 23-year-old Estate Agent was at the centre of speculation that he was a top target for Jerusalem, along with GE Millers Arms' superstar Tony Simmonds. But Welton chairman Paul Brewer told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "James Drabble is just not for sale to anyone. It is as simple as that, really - he is not going anywhere."
Drabble has taken the Premier League by storm in recent seasons, finishing as the club's top scorer in 2 of the 4 seasons since his move to Welton S&SC from his boyhood club Scothern FC. FVA Jerusalem's manager Johnny Bell has been handed a huge transfer budget by his club owner, and Drabble was among a number of names listed as players he will attempt to sign once he arrives at Monson Park on 1 July.
But Brewer has made it clear even Jerusalem's millions will not prise Drabble away from Welton after impressing at Social Park.

Drabble flattered by Jerusalem interest

James Drabble admits he is flattered by FVA Jerusalems reported interest - and his agent has confirmed he was in Lincoln earlier this week.

On Thursday, it was claimed that Jerusalem were monitoring the Welton playboys situation at Social Park as Jonny Bell lines up a long-term replacement for himself.
Drabbles' Brother, Joe, moved to play down the speculation, but the 23-year-old forward has refused to rule out a move away from social park after he has finished watching Euro 2008.
"It is a good sign that such big teams are interested in me, but not I have no ideas about that (transfer)," Drabble told the Welton News.
I have a good contract with Welton and I am focused on the Welton team. When the European Championships finish we can see what happens."
Drabbles agent, Andy Otterwell, admitted that reports of him having recently travelled to Lincoln were true, but did not reveal whether he had met with Jerusalem officials.
"One thing I would ask is what clubs are not interested in a player like James Drabble?" said Otterwell. "It is true that on Monday I was in Lincoln. I have a good relationship with Jerusalem."

We have no case to answer - Eagle

Chris Burke insists Welton S&SC have "no evidence" that GE Millers Arms FC have acted inappropriately in their pursuit of Scott Coupland.

FIFA confirmed on Monday they had received an official request from S&SC to investigate the matter with the Welton club claiming Eagle have carried out a deliberate campaign to unsettle the 22-year-old England midfielder. But Burke is adamant his club have no case to answer. He said: "They don't have any evidence because nothing has happened. "All there is, is what the papers say and rumours that the player seems to want to leave. But at the moment a move is impossible because Welton don't want to sell him. "It's Welton's right (to complain) but we haven't done anything and we are not going to do anything. It's a matter between the player and his club."
GE Millers Arms FC coach Burke has denied that the Lincoln based giants are "obsessed" by Coupland. Burke told the Lincolnshire press that he will not let the issue overshadow his preparations for next season. "This Scotty matter does not worry me nor am I obsessed by it," he told Lincolnshire newspaper Echo. "While he doesn't play for Eagle all we can do is hope, although it's clear that he would be a great signing and would adapt well to our squad."
FIFA's regulations say one club has to inform another if they are to start negotiations with one of their players, although they do not stipulate any possible sanction.

JOHNSON REVEALS WELTON TORTURE

Former Welton utility man Will Johnson has today hit out the clubs’ hierarchy following his release last week. Johnson (22), who spent the majority of an injury-hit season on-loan in Sheffield, found the news difficult to swallow. In a heated interview, Johnson said: “I was browsing the WSSC forum and noticed my name had been posted on the released list. The news was later confirmed on Sky Sports News. My heart sank”. Johnson claims he had received no personal contact from the club: “Having spent three wonderful seasons at Welton, a phone call from the manager or chairman would have softened the blow. Instead I received an invoice from treasurer Jack Sawyer demanding unpaid match fees”. He continued: “Although my first-team opportunities had been limited under Big Al, I thought that with a good pre-season under my belt perhaps I could force myself into his plans”. Unfortunately, the WSSC management team disagreed and offered him a free transfer. Johnson revealed that he had been offered a contract by WSSC Reserves but declined; he said “I was overwhelmed with their interest, however, despite lucrative terms on the table, I felt my love story with Welton should end”. Johnson revealed that he has only one regret upon leaving his boyhood club: “That miss away at The Bridge Inn in the 04/05 season will always haunt me. In retrospect perhaps I should have gone for placement instead of power, but hey that’s life”. He finished with a heart-felt for the clubs supporters: “I would like to thank the manager, coaching staff, past team mates and most importantly the supporters. Welton and everyone associated with the club will always have a special place in my heart”.

Welton boss spoilt for choice

Welton S&SC boss Al Taylor has admitted he faces a welcome selection dilemma following the possible signing of forward Jason Tinkler.

Taylor has an array of attacking options at his disposal ahead of the new season as Tinkler, Curtis, Coupland, Joe and James Drabble, Luke Clifford, Ward, Gordon and Brewer all jostle for starting spots in attacking roles.
Coupland, Clifford and Drabble all scored over 20 goals between them last term to help Welton clinch the 2nd automatic champions league spot, while Tinkler is desperate to revive his career after a low-key spell with Cherry.
"I think we've got to find the right combination," said Taylor.
"It'll be interesting to see the link-up with all the forward players. I think the important thing is the service we get to them now that we've lost Bowey who was a major provider of goals, and that's all for pre-season.
"We'll try one or two combinations in pre-season and get the best formation and formula for ourselves."

Gordon to hold talks on future

Sam Gordon has revealed he will discuss his Welton future with the club after he returns from his summer holiday in Marbella.

The 22 year-old Welton midfielder also admitted he would like to work again with former Nettleham boss Gerald Watson, who has just taken over at Gainsborough based side Friendship. Gordon said: "I would love to be coached by Watson again. "I have a contract with Welton. But you never know - sometimes a challenge is good for a player. I will speak with Mac after my holiday." He said he wanted to concentrate on selling furniture in what is a busy time of year for his industry before focusing on his club future. "I have heard a few comments [about a move to Friendship]. It's a club matter, and I am focused on playing for Welton so we will see after," Gordon added. "But I would love to be coached by Watson again. The majority of the trophies I have won were won with Watson. "At Welton, there is a new cycle happening so we will see what happens. I have a contract with Welton." Gordon, who joined Welton from Nettleham for £9.85 in 2004 after winning the under 18s league under Watson, signed a new five-year contract at Social Park in May last year.

Tinkler opts for Social park switch

Jason Tinkler has told Cherry he wants to join Welton rather than Golden Eagle or Victory - and the two clubs are now in advanced talks.

The three clubs all met the Championship club's asking price, believed to be £5million, for the midfielder, and the Cherry management were happy for Tinkler to decide where he wanted to move to.
The 21 year-old has held talks with all three clubs and has now decided upon a move to Social Park, having flown out to Switzerland to meet Welton boss Al Taylor.
A statement on Cherrys official website read: "Cherry Willingham were informed on Friday morning that Jason Tinklers preferred destination this summer is at Social park Stadium with Welton.
"We will now continue the dialogue with a view with a view to jason’s move being completed.
"The move unlike other options, however, does not include a loan back period at Cherry tree Park for the 2008/09 season."
Reports have claimed that Cherry were keen for Tinkler to join Eagle as the Premier League champions were willing to agree a loan deal for next season.
However, Welton have put up the most persuasive argument for Tinkler and will now try to finalise a deal with Cherry.
The 21-year-old has become one of the hottest properties in British football after a promising second season last season,

Taylor eyes transfer progress

Welton S&SC boss Al Taylor hopes to close in on several targets soon and has urged Simon Clifford to pledge his future to the club.

Clifford, who is set to become a free agent later this summer, is currently mulling over the offer of a new deal and has been linked with Eagle, Victory and Claytons Crusaders.
But Taylor wants the former Travellers rest trainee to remain at the Social Park as Welton prepare for another assault on the Premiership.
"Simon has been excellent for us and we want to keep him," said Taylor.
"We are waiting to hear back from Simon and hopefully before the weekend or next week we will have heard something.
"I think in the next week we will hopefully tie up one or two things in terms of getting Simon signed and progressing with one or two other deals and then we've got a little break again before we come back pre-season."

Clifford agrees new Welton contract

Midfielder Luke Clifford has agreed a new one-year deal with Welton, which will keep him at the club until 2009.

The 20-year-old joined Welton from Cherry Willingham last summer and made 29 first-team appearances in his first season at Social Park. He told the club's website: "I always wanted to stay so it's so pleasing to get everything sorted out. "It was nice to play so many games last year and now we'll be looking to push on and make next season a success." Welton boss Alistair Taylor has now secured the services of all three of his players who had reached the end of the current deals. He said: "Scott Coupland, Mark Curtis and now Luke have accepted their new deals and that's a lot better than the situation we had here last year. "Luke had an excellent season and he'll be looking to build on that now - I am delighted he's staying with us."

Furness eyes transfer to Welton

Former Rustons striker Olly Furness says he would welcome a move to Welton.

The Nettleham born winger left Rustons just three months ago for Norwegian outfit Viking Stavanger. As yet there has been no formal bid for the player from Welton, but the Social Park side are rumoured to be considering a bid in the region of £50. "If it can happen, it will be amazing," the 24-year-old told the Welton Evening news. During his time at Rustons, Furness scored 15 times in 49 appearances for the club. Since moving to Viking, he has scored three goals in six games. "To play for Welton would just be unbelievable," he said. "They are a big club in Lincoln and I think they are the best club in the East Midlands. "I would be proud to get the chance to play for Welton.

Duo Receive Welcomed Reprieve

Disgraced duo James Drabble and Jaz Dhinsda have been let of ‘lightly’ according to Welton S&SC assistant manager Mack Sawyer after both players were saved from any severe punishment. Sawyer was so appalled at the stars’ behaviour on a boozy night out in York, he believes that if it wasn’t for the intervention of their teammates, the duo would have been sacked. It is thought that several more players, including team captain Neil Stocks and player representative Will Carter, admitted their involvement at the infamous York trip and that may have taken the onus off Drabble and Dhindsa .

Drabble, 24, was accused of wreaking ‘absolute havoc’ on the streets of York and was photographed brawling on a street corner. The player, who has already been reprimanded this season for his worryingly increasing playboy lifestyle, was also accused of trashing his £63-a-night hotel room – an accusation later found to be fictitious.

Dhindsa, 22, also heaped shame on the well-known village after being photographed taunting local police officers at 2am. Our source tells us that the former Nettleham defender was so drunk he “couldn’t even tell the taxi driver the way home” when he finally decided to call it a day at 4am.

Welton manager Big Al, famous for dishing out the ‘hairdryer treatment’ to misbehaving stars, must have mellowed recently as he decided to let the squad choose a suitable punishment. Sources close to the players told us that there were some brilliant ideas such as making the pair wear the shirts of main rivals Golden Eagle to pre-season training, forcing them to play for the reserves next season or leaving them to erect the goals themselves before a game. However, the players unanimously decided to make the duo do a rack of ‘Revolution’ shots on Saturday night after Carole’s homecoming BBQ. Player representative Will Carter remained tight-lipped about the event but did admit that “the chilli shot will be involved”.

Assistant manager Mack Sawyer was allegedly “unimpressed” with the decision, concluding that the penalty was not a punishment at all and only served to “encourage the idiotic behaviour we saw two weeks ago in York”. Whether this next ‘social meeting’ turns out the same way remains to be seen but it is clear that the reputation of Lincoln Sunday League football cannot afford to be tarnished again so soon.

Carter snubs Trent Valley move

Trent valleys hopes of signing Will Carter have been dashed after the Welton ace admitted he is looking for a bigger challenge

Trent Valley are understood to have an interest in Carter as boss Ben Martin prepares for the possible exit of star assets Alex Munn and Robert Newton.
However, Welton defender Carter -has ruled out the possibility of moving to The common.
"Trent Valley, and I hope the Welton reserve fans will forgive me for saying this, are a club in division 5 and I need more of a challenge," Carter told WELTONTV.
"I insist that I have a contract with Welton until 2010 and I feel great at the club."
However, Carter has hinted that he would be keen to join Jose Mourinho's revolution at Inter Milan.
Mourinho is ready to ring the changes at the Giuseppe Meazza this summer and, having attempted to sign Carter while in charge at Chelsea, the Portuguese could renew his interest.
"I cannot exclude the option of Inter, but I want to repeat that I still feel I am a Welton player and that I feel under no pressure," Carter concluded.

Bowey questions arrest

Midfielder unhappy to have reputation tarnished

Welton Sports & Social Clubs Tom Bowey has questioned the police investigation into alleged football corruption after the player was released from bail earlier this week. Welton winger Bowey was released from bail on Friday by officers investigating allegations of football corruption. Bowey had been arrested last September by officers from the City of Lincoln Police on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud. The arrest surrounded a £18,000 loan given to Bowey by the player's agent Andy Otterwell with the agent defending his decision to give the player the loan. The 22-year-old has now been cleared of any wrongdoing and the Leeds businessman is unhappy that the whole matter has painted him in a bad light. Bowey also believes the incident affected his position at Welton with the club bringing in Craig Wilkinson during the January transfer window. "I am happy that I have been cleared of any wrongdoing and I always knew I would be," Bowey told Welton news. "When I was arrested I was amazed by all the media coverage with the news on the television and on the front and back pages of the papers. Tears"My family were in tears when I was arrested and I found it very difficult to explain to them what was happening when I had done nothing wrong in the first place. "I did not know what was going on and it affected my position at Welton. "When I was released from bail this week there was no coverage in the press. "I was portrayed in a bad light to people in the public because when they see someone arrested they don't know the facts and just see someone arrested, when in fact I did nothing wrong."
Affected
Bowey faces an uncertain future at Welton this summer and the player feels his arrest has affected his long-term position. "The investigation affected me as I was forced to spend two days in the cells for nothing," the Deloitte Businessman explained. "I love Welton and playing in the Premier League, but I find the policing in Lincolnshire very strange."

New Season Preview

The team registrations for next season have been published. The teams playing in the Sills & Betteridge Sunday Premier League next season are as follows:

GE Millers Arms FC
Welton S&SC
FSC Victory
Ruston Sports
Metheringham
Tower Athletic
Travellers Rest
FC Hunters Leap
Claytons Sports
The Lord T. FC
FVA Jerusalem

Those of you with a keen eye will have noticed that league winners Golden Eagle are not amongst that list, that is because they will now be known as 'GE Millers Arms FC'. New side Clayton Sports are made up of several former Golden Eagle players from last season and are tipped to make a strong appearance next term. The only other new side is FC Hunters Leap, with Lord T. FC and FVA Jerusalem being promoted from Division 1 last season. The sides to make an exit are relegated outfits Waddington FC and Greenbank (now known as Sporting Lincoln) - along with the noteable absence of Stags FC who folded mid-season. Each team will now play 20 league matches, as opposed to the 18 last season.
Elsewhere, Welton S&S Reserves enter in Division 5 and new rivals Welton FC enter in Division 6.

Local bookies, Drabbrokes.com, have made GE Millers Arms FC favourites to retain their crown at 7-2, with Welton S&SFC close behind at 4-1. It is likely that these odds will change as the transfer window opens on July 1st.

Coupland confirms Welton stay

Welton midfielder Scott Coupland has confirmed he will remain at Social Park this season, after ruling out a summer switch to Golden Eagle.

Several bids from Golden Eagle have led to inevitable reports suggesting Coupland will unite with Mallard and the Boys at the Cowpaddle

However, Coupland who was brought to Social Park by Big Al from Cherry in 2007, has insisted he is looking to next term with Welton

"I will go back to Welton for the next season and expect to have a great season," he said in the Sunday Mirror.

"We have shown as a club that we can handle disappointments, and I think we will be able to bounce back next season a better side.

"Most of the guys have gone on holidays and they will put the disappointment of the last season behind them.

"The season generally was very disappointing, but that is football. When you put these things behind you, you become stronger."

Couplands agent James Drabble added: "The player is very happy in Welton and still has four years left on his contract, so I don't see that he will be moving for the moment.
"In football anything can happen. But Welton are a rich, powerful and ambitious club, and he is happy to play for them."

WELTON STARS TO FACE THE SACK

Welton S&S manager Big Al has revealed that two members of his first team squad could be facing the sack following their behaviour whilst on tour in York.
The duo were out celebrating teammate Joe Drabble's 22nd birthday at the races in York along with the majority of the squad , but Big Al Taylor has been angered by their post-races antics.
Both star striker James Drabble and centre-back Jaz Dhindsa could be facing the chop following heavy drinking in the Yorkshire city. It is thought that the players, who both featured heavily in Welton's successful season, were drinking throughout the day on a 14 hour binge before finally crashing out at 3am.
"I don't expect the lads to be saints during the post-season, but they couldn't even put their beers down in the car to York," Big Al said in the Welton News. "We got back after the races and the two of them just stood at the bar drinking heavily until they were hammered." The irate Scotsman went on to say "You get these young guns who think they have cracked it and aren't prepared to work and improve and put the hours in. You don't get that with the foreign lads." This is thought to be a camouflaged praise aimed at international midfielder Rachid Begag who, instead of going to the races, was hard at work on the training ground.
This could be the final straw for Drabble who was skating on thin ice having already been repremanded mid-season for drinking the night before a league match. Dhindsa is likely to be punished less severely as it is his first offence but it remains to be seen whether both players remain with the village outfit.

Team mates with Tom Wilkinson

most intelligent teammate? I thought there was an endless list for this, with so many having been to university, however new discoveries have made me realise this means aboslutely nothing! Daley is a wise old owl tho!

Thickest teammate? Ryan Otterwell - only because after one and a half seasons thru the FPL the young lad still thinks he needs to make transfers both for saturday and sunday games, what a waste of points!
Whose the joker? Scotty Coupland & Ronnie Drabble gets the class clown awards, Johno has the most articulate banter tho (i must admit the dictionary has been dusted off for me to understand a few forum comments)

Best dressed? On a sunday morning i couldn't name anyone! Nights out arnt much better either, for example socks over trainers will not get you into a nightclub.

Worst dresser? Will Carter, has the best gear i must admit with endless wardrobes, but wears them terribly hanging off his monty burns statue, also owns a great jockey outfit!
Team pisshead? Without stating the obvoius King piss-head, Will Carter. A close second must be given to Jaz (ledley dhing) Dhinsa, as for not only owning his very own Jazz Bar, he loves to get thru a bottle ov obscure gins, whiskies, etc.... on a regurlar basis
Hardman? Mayhem after a few pints get extreamly violent in the wilkinson household, and is never wrong! Also i'd imagine Rash is very courageous!!!
Worst taste in music? Can't imagine Wardy's ipod is upto much
Longest in the shower? Must without doubt go to Mark Brewer, he goes thru no end of shower gel!
