Welton togetherness delights Goo

Lee Coupland felt Welton’s performance in the 9-2 victory against Horncastle on Sunday typified the spirit they have shown in recent weeks.

Their battling qualities were evident on Sunday as they came back from two goals down with ten men to thump basement boys Horncastle.

Reflecting on the display, a delighted Coupland said: "We had to stand up and be brave and resolute when we went a Man down.

"We were terrible in the opening quarter of an hour.”

"When we did pass and move the ball in the first half - which wasn't often enough - we had a couple of half-chances ourselves, but when we went in at the break at 3-2, I was absolutely delighted if the truth be told.

"at 2-0 down it would have been easy to feel sorry for ourselves.

"But what we did was show the true spirit we have at the football club. As managers we often talk about team spirit and a sense of camaraderie and that is easy when you are winning games week in and week out.

" that (performance) was testament to how tight a group they are.

"To go a man down but still bounce back with the character they showed - I think that speaks volumes not only for their quality, but for that sense of togetherness they have got."
