Welton SSC concluded there pre season schedule with an emphatic 12 1 victory over Market Rasen Town.
Social were scheduled to play The Blacks Head from Nottingham but the Nottingham outfit cancelled on Friday morning and praise must be given to the Social management team for being able to organise another team at such short notice. The game was a non contest from the start with Welton takingh the lead early on through James Drabble. The Social didn't take there foot off the pedal smashing home 11 further goals including two brilliant goals from the returning Luke Clifford one of which was a superb header from 15 yards out after arguabley the longest one two ever seen. Clifford sent an unbelievable crossfield ball across from left to right which was brilliantly controlled by Gordon who returned the favour crossing to Clifford who had continued his run to head home. Other first half goals included a rear headed goal from James Drabble a superb finish from an unbelievable cross from Sam Gordon. The Social hitman also slammed an efffort home from the edge of the area with a sweet left footed strike. The first half was not all a bed of roses for the frontman however as he contrived to somehow blast over the bar from 2 yards out, surely one of the misses of the season. Welton were unlucky to concede in the second half when a cross from the right was put in the back of Mayhems net by the hand of the Rasen striker, an incident somehow missed by the inept Mulhall in Black. Welton were spurred on by this injustice crashing home further goals through Sutton making his first appearance of pre season, Coupland, Clifford L, Drabble and debutant Lee who had come on at half time. The Social fans were treated to a different dimension of attacking magic in the second half as Carter who had earlier been subbed re entered the arena on the left wing. Carter seemed to have a point to prove and promptly helped himself to a goal. The ball was played across the area by Sutton to Carter who smashed home from 17.5 yards with the outside of his right foot. All in all a satisfactory morning for the social all be it against vastly inferior opposition. A much improved performance by the defence who clearly benefited from a Saturday night in with an orange squash and match of the day rather than a night out with a vodka and local women. Welton fans left Social Park happy with a win but with the knowledge that Hunters leap will provide a much tougher test next week in the first league game of the season especially with the absence of star man Scott Coupland.
