PREVIEW OF THE COMING SEASON

No sooner had Spain lifted the Delaunay Trophy in Vienna as European Champions to herald the end of the 2007/08 season than the Intertoto Cup began for the 2008/09 season. In the same breath, that usually signals the start of training for the majority of the Clubs in the Lincoln Sunday League.
This season sees 8 new clubs join the League and two of these applied to join the Premier Division.
The League’s reigning champions have moved their HQ down the High Street and renamed the team GE Millers Arms and will be the team to beat in the Premier division. No doubt they’ll try once again for that elusive treble. Both FSC Victory and Welton S & SC will push them all the way (as I’m sure all the teams in this division will try to do) but it’s the two brand new teams in the top division this season, Hunters Leap and Clayton Sports that will be ones to watch as they could provide a shock or two if the rumours on the streets about squad quality are to go by. Unfortunately, The Lord T has been forced to withdraw from the Division due to a lack of players.
Prediction – Welton S & SC

Two brand new teams in the League will feature in Division five this season, Welton S & SC Reserves and Tavern. If the former perform like their first team, this Division could be over by Xmas. However, there are still a number of strong sides to deny them honours. AFC West End, who led the division for most of the previous season will hope to maintain any early form and Dynamo Rileys should take the step up in standard in their stride. Woodhall Spa’s young side will have benefited from their experience in Division three last year and will also be hovering around the top of the table at the end of the season.
Prediction – Dynamo Rileys
