MAKE OR BREAK, SAYS JOHNSON.Win on Sunday and title success is a reality. That is the view of ex-Welton squad member Will Johnson who admits that ambitions of title glory rest heavily on the outcome of this weekend’s clash. Speaking exclusively to WSSCFC Blogspot, Johnson said: “If this talented crop of players harbours any aspirations of becoming title contenders then the game against Clayton Sports is a must-win; they have the ability but do they have the belief?”
Johnson, now a professional WSSCFC Blogspot Forum impersonator, strongly believes that this is Welton’s best opportunity yet to mount a serious title campaign. He commented: “With a blend of experience and flair running through the team Welton have the right ingredients to top the league come May; the squad depth is impressive and the team are hungry to succeed”. Welton’s off-the-field set-up is something also that Johnson has faith in: “In Big Al they have passion and grit; in Coupland there is tactical intelligence; and in Mac there is a superlative knowledge of Lincoln Sunday League. This mix of managerial skill caters for all the problematic situations a long season can throw at you.”
Having witnessed GE Miller Arms defeat Clayton Sports earlier in the season, Johnson is sure that anything short of a victory for Welton at the weekend will hand the title impetus to their rivals. He said: “Welton need to be going into this season’s clashes with GE Miller Arms level pegging; the last thing the Manager will want is to be playing catch-up already. Win on Sunday and send a message to the rest of the league about their credentials, anything less and the critics will be eager to write them off”.
Johnson finished by predicting that Sunday will be a cagey affair amidst the tension riding on typically pressurised games. However, he does expect a narrow away victory for Big Al’s men: “Sunday will be tight; no team will want to give an inch; but I have a slight inkling that Welton will shade it; the time has come for this group of players to achieve success that reflects their ability”.
