Carter wary of Gio threat

Welton Sports & Social defender Will Carter is determined to stop former team-mate and good friend Giovanni Viscomi hogging the limelight when the two line-up against each other in Sundays Kelly Read Cup clash.

Gio left the Socialites in January 2006 and has been in fantastic form for Division one side Waddington, scoring six goals in six games so far this season. Welton ended up hammering Waddington 14 – 2 at the end of last season and it was the Italian hairdresser who found the net on both occasions so Welton will have to be warey of the powerful frontman come Sunday morning.

"He is always a threat and we will need to make sure we stop him" said Carter, whos has been an ever present member of the Welton back three since his return from Dubai.

"I'm very confident that our defence will be able to handle him. We have shone in the last few games and limited our opponent's chances.

"We deserve praise after last Sunday because we could have lost if we hadn't performed as well as we did."

Welton will be looking to go one step further than last year and reach the final of the Kelly Read. They are still in two other cup competitions as well and must surely fancy there chances of breaking their silverware duck. They started off their Ron Eaglen campaign in emphatic fashion after defeating Peter De Wint 10 – 0 last Sunday.

"The changing room was buzzing after the match, we all felt the win was coming, but we never expected it to be so convincing" said the former Dunholme Primary School attendee.

"It was a real boost for the side. We have got the confidence now to go on to win more games and hopefully some trophies."
