Welton Sports & Social defender Will Carter has been admitted to a clinic after admitting to a drinking problem.
Carter, 23, told the club last Friday of the problem before beginning a "residential period" at the Sporting Chance centre in Hampshire.
"Maybe people didn't realise how bad I actually did have it," he said. "I'd go out for three or four days at a time moving on, sleeping anywhere."
The Nook farm resident joined Weltons Youth system back in 1995.
"I hope the next time I put on a Welton shirt I can actually repay some of the damage I've caused to the club and the fans," said Carter.
Manager Alistair Taylor said: "The club will support our players when they need help and I admire Wil for facing up to his problems and seeking help."
"I am sure he will benefit from his time with Sporting Chance and we look forward to welcoming him back to Social Park" he told www.wsscfc.blogspot.com.
