Taylor backs Coupland
Welton boss Alistair Taylor maintains that striker Scott Coupland will soon break his goal drought.
Coupland has now gone over 300 minutes of football without hitting the back of the net for Welton and yesterdays postponement of the game against bottom of the league side Tower Athletic can only have added to his frustration.
Coupland is Weltons record buy at £25 when they signed him from rivals Cherry Willingham at the start of last season, and Taylor has faith in the self employed joiner.
"Coupland has that little bit of genius and speed - he can turn a game and I am sticking with him," Taylor said.
Coupland, 23, has been playing on the right side of a front two in a new 4-4-2 line-up for Welton.
But the frontman has struggled to maintain the form that saw him top the premier league goal scoring charts last season ending up with over 40 league and cup goals for Welton.
Taylor added: "Scott is not a steady player. He is not going to give a seven-out-of-10 performance every week.
"I want to play attacking football and Scot and Ronnie, who has also been playing up front, are proven goalscorers at this level.
"If you wanted players who track back and defend, they would be the last players you would pick.
"But they both have great ability on the ball and can be match-winners and that's why they are in.
"I think what we are doing is what the fans want to see."
One ex Cherry player who is firing on all cylinders for Welton, though, is left winger Luke Clifford.
The 21-year-old is the Premier League's top scorer with ten league goals so far this season from six games.
