Welton Sports Afc continued their rich vein of form from last year in their first pre-season outing against a good Woodhall Spa side.
Welton started well, but were caught with a sucker punch when the woodhall forward finished from around 20 yards with a cheeky lob. One soon became two and three as Woodhall began to move up through the gears with some of their new signings clearly fitting straight in. However it was Welton who were dominating possession and it was only a matter of time until the Woodhall Keeper was going to conceed. It came in the form of a bullet header just before half time by the some what hungover Dave Kirkbride. With the score at 3-1 Welton could feel a little agreived, but were not getting too concerned as it was more about getting the match fitness from the game.
A few changes were made at half time and Welton burst into life with some scentilating football between the new youngsters luke and lewis. The tables were soon turned with Jason helping himself to two goals and former florist Alex Munn also adding two to his pre-season account. With the score at 5-3 it was only right that Welton stalwart James Mulhall stepped up to add the final nail in the Woodhall Coffin with a neat left footed finish from 12 yards to make it 6-3.
New management duo Mark Daly & James Mulhall were really impressed with the lads display over 90 mins and it would appear the gruelling pre-season training is starting to pay off. Welton Sports are still looking to add a couple more signings before the transfer deadline, but appear to of added some very promising youngsters along with one or two experienced heads.
