Famous Five: Millers classics

Welton and Millers never fail to provide an enthralling contest whether it be at Social Park or the Cowpaddle. www.wsscfc.blogspot.com now looks back over 5 of the best meetings between the two giants ahead of this Sundays damp squib.

May 2008: RE Cup Final Welton 0 Millers 3

Sincil Bank was the venue for the Final but sadly for Welton the mercurial Tony Simmons and Millers centre back Ward were the only players to turn up on the day as Simmons helped himself to a hat trick to bring down the curtain on his glistening career.

August 2006: Premier League Welton 3 Millers 1

The opening game of the 2006/ 2007 season saw the Millers come to Social Park on the opening day of the season only to be turned over by then league minnows Welton. A virtuoso display from Mark ‘Twiggy’ Curtis stole the show as he scored and was brought down in the box to allow Craig Stones to convert from the spot.

April 2009: Premier League Millers 4 Welton 3
Millers clinched their third consecutive league title in an absolute thriller at the Cow paddle. Needing at least a point from the Game Welton lead 3-2 with ten minutes to go but a sensational comeback from the Millers saw Jack Goddard clinch victory with the last kick of the game.

March 2009: RE Cup Semi Final: Welton 3 Millers 2

The much anticipated rematch of the previous seasons Ron Eaglen Cup Final lived up to all expectations as Welton progressed to the final by three goals to two. Goals from Scott Coupland, and two for Luke Clifford were enough to see the Socialites progress to this seasons RE Cup Final.

December 2007: Premier League: Welton 5 Millers 4

Welton lead at half time by 2 goals to one with a Tom Bowey brace but were promptly pegged back to 2 all then with ten minutes to go Welton found themselves down by 3 goals to two until James Drabble restored parity with a thunderous strike. Welton again surrendered the lead until Scott Coupland scored from the spot. Then with the last kick of the game second half substitute Joe Drabble finished with aplomb to send Social Park into raptures just two days before Christmas. A genuine Christmas cracker.
