The Social Reserves have not splashed out so far this summer with certain sections of the supporters becoming frustrated that the owners of the club are not freeing the necessary funds for a big-name signing for the reserves while the first team continue to bolster their ranks with 4 huge Summer signings already.
Certain sections of the John stanham stand rounded on Wilkinson at the weekend as the Reserves slipped to a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Division 5 side Cross FC in a pre season friendly. With many sections of the crowd believing that new faces are required if they are to mount a challenge in Divison 3 this Season.
"The money is there if we believe there is a player who can improve what we believe is a very good squad," Wilkinson told the Welton News.
"The team has been together for a number of years and done very well. In order to improve it a player has to be of a high quality."
Wilkinson would not be drawn on who the Reserves are targeting as possible signings, but revealed they have been on the look-out for new faces for the Reserves aswell as the first team.
"We are always looking at players," he added. "We are looking 365 days a year - it doesn't just start when the transfer window opens.
"We are looking at it. We studied a lot of players this close season, but we knew about a lot of them before that.
"Overall I think Mark is very comfortable with the squad composition. That's not to say something won't happen, but I think it is a 'might', not a 'will'.
"We will see what happens over the next six weeks."
