Bowey stormed straight off the pitch into the changing rooms after being substituted and then reportedly drove straight home instead of staying to support his team mates to the full time whistle. This is the latest twist in Boweys short reign as captain of the reserves after his unsporting behaviour from the first league game against Metheringham saw him attempt to fool the referee by simulating and was duly booked for his efforts.
Scally was however quick to jump to the defence of his player
“Tom had somewhere he needed to be and needed to leave the game early explaining why he was brought off” explained Schaer.
“The situation was not ideal, especially since we were chasing the game at that point, but it couldn’t be helped.”
When asked if Bowey would keep hold of the armband for next weeks clash Schaer commented;
“Captains are there to lead the team and set an example, I am still confident we have selected the right man for the job”
However new Welton signing Connor Smith did not agree with Schaers comments;
“A captain should be there til the end whether hes on the pitch or not, he should be setting an example to the new younger players in the squad but from what I have seen from him in the first two games I have not been impressed”
“He seems more interested in Carlos Tevez’s new haircut than he does about this club!” Blasted Smith
Bowey was unavailable for comment, more to follow…………………………
