Welton return with 3 points from the Holy Land

Reserves got back to winning ways on Sunday with a convincing victory over Jerusalem Reserves. A much changed side took to the field after the previous weeks loss to Lincoln Imp. GK M Wilkinson, RB Kelsey CB Mulhall CB Gordon LB Carlile, RM Bowey CM Stocks CM Munn CM Cooper LM Smith ST T Wilkinson.

Welton got off to abright and breezy start, looking to put away the demons from the previous week, and they couldn't have got off to a better start when Carlile leapt highest from a corner and headed into the far top corner of the net.

The lead was soon doubled when Wilkinson was sent through. He neatly rounded the on rushing goalkeeper and cooly slotted the ball home from a tight angle. Jerusalem were starting to get a feel for the game and the tackles were flying in, and under no real pressure, Cooper dithered on the ball and the Jerusalem striker picked his pocket before advancing into the area and cooly slotting home.

Connor Smith was guilty of missing a couple of chances one with his 50p head and the other with his normally trusty left peg, but he continued to cause his right back problems. Wilkinson was soon at it again however and netted another for the Socialites. His brother the other end was keeping Jerusalem at bay with a string of fine saves. Jerusalem thought they had another as Mayhem's save only dropped across the six yard box, but a flying last ditch tackle from Carlile prevented the opposition from popping the ball into the empty net.

The second half continued in much the same ilk as the first, with Welton effortlessly stroking the ball around and playing some impressive football. As Jerusalem began to lose their rag, the referee's pencil became more active as yellows were being brandished left right and centre. One incident resulted in the Jerusalem captain being made to fetch the ball he hoofed away after the whistle had gone.

Wilkinson completed a beautiful birthday hat trick mid way through the second half and Kelsey scored his first competitive goal for Welton from the spot, before Munn scored a wonderful solo effort waltzing around the defence before slipping th ball through the keepers leg with his left foot.
