Snookes: experience is important

Welton’s Joe Snookes believes the Village club's experience in the RE Cup will give them an extra advantage at the quarter-final stage against Metheringham on Sunday. The Socialites overcame Ivy Tavern 4-3 to book their place in the last eight.

The victory over Dave Matthews’ side lined up a clash against Metheringham for a place in the semi-finals and Snookes is confident about getting through to the Semi Finals once again.

"You've got to believe you can progress because you've got to this stage of the competition," the centre-back told the Welton news.

"You've got to fancy your chances and we're looking forward to the game on Sunday.

"I think reaching 3 Ron Eaglen Finals in the last four seasons helps because with the top sides who regularly get to those latter stages of competitions or in the past maybe with Golden Eagle at the tail end of a title race, that experience sometimes is what gets them over the line.

"We've reached 7 Cup Finals in the last 4 seasons and have already reached another one this season."

"You've got to have experience in the dressing room to play in quarter-finals, semi-finals and hopefully finals."

“Metheringham are a good side and I expect them to get promotion back to the Premier League this season.”

“It’s never an easy place to go but we have the quality to go there and get a result.”
