Welton on song at the Wong

Welton maintained their run of good form on Wednesday night with a professional 4-0 win at Horncastle. The goals were shared between Scott coupland, Sam Allmond, Jason Tinkler and Billy Munro.

Welton made a string of changes to their starting line up with Stubbs continuing in goal protected by a back four of Carter, Snookes, chesman and Taylor in for the absent Leigh Warman, Olly Furness and Jason Tinkler started on the wings for Welton with Sam Allmond and Neil Stocks in the centre of midfield. Billy Munro returned to the starting line up to partner Scott Coupland.

Horncastle had pulled in their strongest side of the Season for the visit of the Socialites but it was Welton that started brightly trying to pass the ball through the Horncastle defence and their efforts were rewarded when Scott Coupland opened the scoring on 11 minutes.

Neat play down the right lead to Sam Allmond lofting the ball over the advancing goalkeeper only for his goalbound effort to be cleared off the line straight to Scott Coupland who made no mistake from a couple of yards out.

The first half failed to spark into life though and Welton were forced to wait until the 35th minute to double their lead when Sam Allmond swept home a loose ball with his left foot from the edge of the area following good play by Jason Tinkler down the left hand side.

A Neil stocks header produced a fine save from the Horncastle goalkeeper in the only other highlight of note in an otherwise uneventful first half.

HALF TIME: Horncastle Town 0-2 Welton S&SC

Welton were forced into an early change at the start of the second half with Neil Stocks pulling up with a tight hamstring, No chances were taken and the tough tackling midfielder was replaced by Jack McGovern.

Much like the first half, the second period was drifting by with both sides creating half chances. Horncastle perhaps shaded the territorial possession though with target man will Carter proving to be a handful for the Welton defence.

Ross Taylor was replaced by Luke Clifford at left back in the 70th minute with the Scotsman getting a good 70 minutes under his belt as he returns to full fitness.

Welton sealed the three points with a rare moment of quality football.

Jason Tinkler burst past his man down the right hand side before playing the ball into Jack McGovern, McGovern threaded the ball brilliantly through the Horncastle defence back to Tinkler who slotted home past the keeper to give Welton a secure 3 goal cushion.

This effectively ended the game as a contest and Welton started to play some nice football knowing that the three points were secured.

Jason Tinkler turned provider for welton’s fourth goal as he again breezed past his man before firing the ball in low to the feet of Billy Munro who lashed the ball home first time with his right foot in off the left hand post to complete a lovely move.

There was still time for the once again impressive Carl Stubbs to pull off a stunning save from a speculative effort from distance to keep the score at 4-0

Not the most memorable of games but a pleasing clean sheet for Welton and another game ticked off and Welton’s red hot run of form continues heading into this Sundays Ron Eaglen Cup match at Metheringham.

Final Score: Horncastle Town 0-4 Welton S&SC
