Former Welton S&SC star Matt Gordon fears the club have blown a golden opportunity to win the title.
With a game at the Cowpaddle against Victory to come next month, Welton’s fate still rests in their own hands but Gordon believes Peter Noble’s Victory have the title in the bag.
Gordon, speaking at the Soccerex forum in Dubai, said: "I don't think FSC Victory have been brilliant, they have dug results out - but that is Victory.
"The manager, whatever you say about the manager, has been there and done it.
"I'm surmising Victory are going to win it, but I think it was a great chance for Welton had they had a better start to the season.
“I think their fixture pile up will again get the better of them with so many big games coming all at once with a few injuries creeping in aswell meaning they can't keep players fresh.”
With Victory not in action again until they face Welton on the 18th, Welton have to win their next 4 games just to make the game against Victory matter.
After last week's tremendous win over Nettleham - and a sequence of 17 wins in all competitions - Welton are back on home turf for the visit of Horncastle.
Welton will be lifted by the return of Olly Furness and Jason Tinkler, Carrl Stubbs will once again step in for Phil McGann in goal but Luke Clifford remains a doubt aswell as long term injury absentee Ross Taylor who could miss the remainder of the season.
