Luke Clifford’s pace down the left hand side was a constant threat and it was one of his trademark bursts down the wing that lead to a corner, Matt O Halloran curled the ball in from the left which was met by a powerful Leigh Warman header that was to hot for keeper Kowalski to handle giving Welton a deserved lead.
Welton were perhaps guilty of overplaying in the tricky conditions and Scothern mounted a bit of pressure for ten minutes following the goal but they were hit with a scintillating Welton counter attack in the 25th minute.
Clifford again surged forward down the left before crossing low to Munro at the back post, Munro controlled well and turned back inside his marker before lashing the ball home with his left foot past Kowalski to double Welton’s lead.
The Socialites squandered a number of opportunities before the break and were nearly made to pay for their wastefulness on the stroke of half time when Scothern hit the outside of the post with a free kick.
