The road to the Bank II

Welton go in search of their 4th consecutive Kelly Read Cup triumph against local rivals Scothern on Wednesday night and we now look back at how Welton progressed to the Sincil Bank showpiece

Metheringham home won 5-2

The Holders faced a tricky draw in the preliminary round when they were drawn at home to Metheringham, Welton did what they had to do though and a goal a piece for Jason Tinkler, Matt O Halloran, Billy Munro and 2 for Scott coupland saw the Socialites safely through.

North Scarle away won 6-1

One of the most farcical games for many a season saw Welton see off Division 2 minnows North Scarle. The most horrendous kit clash in the history of Sunday football along with a very agricultural pitch that was heavy on the Mole hills yet light on the line markings and a howling wind were perfect conditions for an upset but goals from Craig Cosgrove, Luke Clifford, Leigh Warman, Sam Allmond and 2 more for Scott Coupland made sure Welton avoided the banana skin.

Quarter Final Nettleham United home won 4-1

Welton’s backs were against the wall from the start against Nettleham with several star names missing Welton were only able to name a bare 11 where as their opponents filled their starting line up with star names.

The Socialites rose to the occasion though and a blistering first half performance with spectacular goals from Scott Coupland, Matt O Halloran and Sam Allmond sent the Socialites in at the break 3-1 up. A tense second half ensued but Craig Cosgrove made the game safe late on with another superb strike.

Semi Final Waddington United away won 1-0

With many people expecting a cricket score Welton turned in a very dower display in the semi Final at Waddington. Without ever looking likely to concede Welton looked equally flat going forward and Billy Munro grabbed the only goal of the game just minutes into the second half to send Welton through to their fourth Kelly Read final in a row against Scothern on Wednesday night.

Wednesday night looks like being a fantastic game with Welton's recent slump in form Scothern will fancy their chances and are sure to have out their star names for the Sincil Bank clash.
