WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!

Welton Sports finally confirmed the division 2 title with an emphatic 5-1 win at North Scarle today.

The pack was shuffled again with lee and matt wilks suspended, phil, matt ward and andy away so welton lined up with a new man in goal ex lincoln utd keeper Craig Turner protected by a back four of buckers, dave, danny and club sec moley getting his first start after an injury ravaged season, a midfield four of alex, connor, bow and ross with jason and ronnie up top. This left alex jackson, joel and player manager daly on the bench.

The early preperations were marred when it was discovered that several of the team had broken the 11pm curfew and were reported to have been seen in Lincoln's watering holes till the early hours of this morning. This left the management team with a few headaches in more ways than one! Ross being the worst offender was given the cold shower treament to try and sober him up, but this proved to be fruitless.

The early exchanges were fairy even and north scarle were vying to be the first team to take the scalp of the invincible welton sports. Ross still slurring his words was booked after a largely forgettable 15 minutes, decisive action was needed and manager daly hauled the younster off to save injury to himself and or others.

He was replaced by joel who had supposed to be taking it easy prior to having his tonsils out on tuesday, but as usual the tricky winger came on and was full of running. It was not until the stroke of half time when a lovely flighted free kick from buckers was met by the oversized head of connor smith. It rattled off the bar and the ref decided it had crossed the line before the onrushing moley had made sure by heading in the rebound. One for the dubious goals panel perhaps, but for the moment it was given to connor. This lifted the away fans going into the half time break 1-0 up.

The second half start much brighter as the hangovers began to lighten the usual flowing football returned. The second goal came from a lovely move which saw jason slip in tom bowey to neatly slot past the keeper to make it 2-0. Welton were now looking more comfortable and the third was not far behind after another trademark delivery from buckers was met with a sliding volley from ronnie to all but end the game as a contest at 3-0 with around 60 mins gone.

The next goal however fell to North Scarle after a rare forage forward resulted in them outnumbering the welton defence and smashing the ball past the very impressive turner to make it 3-1. The travelling fans feared they may be a repeat of last week against woodhall when we conceeded 3 late goals having took our feet of the gas.

It was time for some fresh legs and alex jackson replaced tom bowey in midfield. The three goal advantage was soon restored when substitute alex closed down the defence and nicked the ball to go on and slot home the forth.

Welton continued to press as they felt there was more goals to come. The fifth goal came courtesy of a clumsy challenge on jason leading to welton's top scorer hammereing home the resulting penalty to put the final nail the north scarle coffin at 5-1. The last change of the day saw player manager daly replace connor and with ten minutes remaining welton were still pressing hard for the illusive 6th goal. The best chance fell to ronnie when a fluffed goal clearence from the keeper landed straight at his feet. Unfortunately he rather rushed it and blazed it over the bar with no defenders anywhere to be seen!

All in all a very good second half performance from the lads and the three points confirmed the division 2 title with one game to play Welton Sports now sit 11 points clear due to already bagging the 3 points from next weeks fixture against Ruston Eagles due to them folding.

The last game will be away against County Hospital on the 29th April and should Welton win this fixture they will of gone through the whole season unbeaten in the league which is a fantastic achievement at any level of football.
