Welton make move for Sutton

Sleaford assistant manager Pete Ward has revealed that Welton have lodged an offer for midfielder Peter Sutton. The Sleaford winger, 24, did not play in Sleaford's pre-season victory at Bourne on Monday because of a calf problem picked up in training. Sutton has made it clear that he wants to leave Sleaford and has also been linked with G E Millers, who Ward says are yet to make an approach. "We have had an offer from Welton but I do not want him to go," he said. "He is injured and he will have a couple of days off and I hope to take him to Lincoln on Friday for our training trip." Sutton's current deal runs until 2011 and he is expected to cost Sleaford's Lincoln League rivals in the region of £17. "The Pete Sutton situation will not go away and only time will tell whether he is here in August," added Ward. "He would have played here if he had not been injured but I know that in football players come and players go." Ward’s first game in charge since he took over as assistant at Sleaford resulted in his side beating Bourne Town - the club where he started his playing career - 2-1, with goals from Jamie Shaw and Jason Sedlan. Afterwards, Ward also dismissed any move for G E Millers keeper Rick Duffin as part of any deal taking Sutton to Social Park, insisting he wanted to hold on to Billinghay stopper Andy Scott. "When I came to Sleaford, I said I wanted to keep my best players and Andy Scott comes into that category," he said. "He is one of the best keepers in the UCL Premier Division. "There is no interest from me in Rick Duffin. As far as I am concerned, I want to keep Andy. I do not want to sell Andy, so why should I want Rick Duffin?" Sleaford striker Jamie Shaw has also been linked to other Premier League clubs, including Rustons and FC Victory, but the Heighington born international says he is happy to stay at Sleaford.
