Welton 'lead Drabble chase'

Welton Sports & Social Club are favourites to sign Nettleham defender Jonny Drabble, according to the Village club's chairman

Welton are locked in a battle with Hunters Leap for the young star and reports state the Welton side have bid £25.50. "Jonny and his agent have two interesting proposals and they are leaning more towards the one from Welton," Clive Wilkinson told Lincs FM. A Nettleham spokesman told the Lincolnshire Echo they would discuss the 17-year-old's future with his agent later on Monday. But he did not say whether the Nettles would meet representatives from either Welton or Hunters Leap. However, The Echo understands that Hunters Leap vice-president Adrian Gallian is in Sudbrooke to attempt to convince Jonny to choose the Washingborough side over the Social Park Club. The two-time Nettleham Player of the Year was not present on Monday morning to start pre-season fitness tests under Nettleham coach Mick Adams, leading to speculation that talks about his future were set to take place with Hunters. His time at the Northern village giants effectively came to an end in June when Adams announced the defender had asked him for a transfer request. Nevertheless, the Nettles were not prepared to release Drabble to join Mark Fell’s Lincolnshire squad for next month's Cricket tournament. Drabble helped the Mulsuanne Park club win back-to-back Kelly Reed titles (2006-07, 2007-08), but failed to cement a regular place in the starting XI last season because of injury and fitness issues.
