Dhindsa - You can count on me

Welton S&SC utility man Jaspaul Dhindsa has told manager Al Taylor that he is a reformed character after several drunken incidents threatened to jeopardise his fledgling career.

York, Sheffield, Leeds and hometown Lincoln are just a few venues which have accommodated Dhindsa’s drunken debauchery in recent times – much to the displeasure of the Welton board and management.

However, in the eye of the Welton supporters the 22-year-old from Reepham Toft can do no wrong – a notion which has probably saved him from a prolonged loan spell with Welton reserves.

A loan spell with Droops and the boys is enough to turn anyone to drink, and Dhindsa has been handed a reprieve by Taylor ahead of the 2008-09 campaign.

An early injury to veteran defender Ross Taylor in the fine 2-1 win over Hunters Leap on the opening day of the season handed Dhindsa an opportunity to shine in his preferred position of centre half for the remainder of the game.

And with a tough task awaiting Welton with FSC Victory heading to Social Park on Sunday, Dhindsa insists he won’t let his manager down, despite the temptation of a heavy night out in Lincoln on Saturday awaiting.

“Yes I’ve made mistakes, but who hasn’t,” said Dhindsa

“I’m a different person now, and sometimes it takes a mistake or two down the line to make you realise what’s important in life.

“I’m not going to lie, on previous Saturday’s I’d finish work around half two and I’d be immediately wondering where my first drink was coming from instead of focusing on Crows away the following day.

“Now I realise the importance of what Al, Lee, Mac and the boys are trying to achieve at Social Park and I want to be a big part of it.

“I sat down with Al, Lee, Mac and Maureen in pre-season and we thrashed out a few ideas and I agreed that the 2008-09 season would be the one which showed what Jaz Dhindsa is all about.

“I am available and ready for Sunday and Al knows that.”
