Mayhem – I’m not finished yet

Welton S&SC stopper Matt Wilkinson is determined to use his recall to the first team as an opportunity to showcase his talents when Tower Athletic visit Social Park on Sunday.

Wilkinson, 25, has been wilting away unnoticeably in Welton reserves during the opening weeks of the season, however the ever-reliable paramedic has been thrust back into Premier League action for this weekend’s match.

The summer arrival of Rick Osiah at Social Park has seen Mayhem play second-fiddle to the former England schoolboy so far this season, a role which is no disgrace at all.

However, what is a disgrace is Mayhem playing in an attacking position and thankfully for all concerned the trainee medic is back in between the posts on Sunday. And if any fans situated in the John Stanham Stand this weekend believe Mayhem’s appearance will be a one-off, Wilkinson has a stark message ahead of the match: “I’m not finished yet”.

In a one-on-one interview in the Social Club this week, Wilkinson told www.wsscfc.blogspot.com that he intends to grab his opportunity with both hands if Tower breach the rock-like Welton defence on Sunday.

“A lot has been made of keeper situation this season, but to be honest I don’t let it get to me,” he said.

“Rick has come in and fair play to him he hasn’t put a foot wrong. I am not one of these players who starts shouting his mouth off if he isn’t picked - I just wait for my chance.

“I hope I can give a good account of myself on Sunday, and after that who knows?”

Off the field Wilkinson, like many of the Social’s star performers, enjoys a drink or two to unwind and relax away from his stressful work schedule.

However, as the interview and the drink consumption progressed, Mayhem became increasingly aggravated and worryingly aggressive.

The interview was brought to an abrupt end when Wilkinson, who was fairly inebriated at this point, marched towards the on looking Kev Brewer and started remonstrating with him for no reason.
