It is time for Welton to face the music and dance this weekend when they take on Queen Bess in the County Cup quarter final but a mix up with the fixtures means that not for the first time this season Weltons police resources are at full stretch.
Due to the first teams excellent run in the County Cup the scheduled game at Social Park this weekend was supposed to be the eagerly anticipated rematch between the Reserve team and local trouble makers Tavern FC. However as is standard Procedure County Cup games take preference and the reserves match has been moved to a 1:30 kick off.
P.C. Andy Rolfe is more concerned than ever about the potential for violence at Social Park this Sunday as there are so many combustible elements in the same place at the same time.
“We’re on red alert” admitted Rolfe
“we’re at full strech as it is, because of the high profile nature of the first teams clash with Queen Bess.”
Welton are the only side from Lincoln apart from St Giles left in the County Cup and it is thought that more neutrals from Lincoln would rather come and support the Socialites than St Giles.
“Were expecting a massive crowd on Sunday.” Explained Rolfe
“The Games been sold out for weeks and Queen Bess have sold all of their original ticket allocation, as well as the additional 8 tickets they were allocated on top of that.”
“So as I have stressed on previous occasions if you aren’t already in possession of a ticket there is no way you will be allowed into Social Park for the quarter final!”
“We are more than capable of coping with the magnitude of this quarter final but now that we have been told that Tavern are coming to town in the afternoon it is an absolute nightmare.”
“Tavern always bring a large following and their arrival will coincide with the Bess and Social fans leaving the ground and we fear this is when the trouble may erupt.”
“We can only hope and pray that the quarter final doesn’t go into extra time because the Tavern fans will not be allowed into the ground until the stands have been cleared!” Leaving them stood outside with the Social Reserve fans waiting to come in aswell.”
Further spice has been added to the reserves v Tavern clash after last weeks Fred Quibbell cup epic when Welton dumped Tavern out of the competition 5-1 in a bad tempered game. A defeat that Tavern and their followers will be looking to avenge this weekend. And then to add further fuel to the fire Tavern were knocked out of the County Cup earlier this season by a Scunthorpe side and the police feel that they will still have a sour taste in their mouth from that.
“We’ve drafted in extra officers from Scothern and Nettleham and Tom Bowey has been told to keep his cards in his pocket.”
“we would like to assure all fans travelling to Social Park on Sunday that every possible step has been taken to ensure their safety.” Concluded Rolfe.
