Coupland rejects discipline concerns

Lee Coupland insists indiscipline will not become a problem at Welton this season and claims he has the backing of the club's owner to ensure that.

Weltons transfer window signing Tom Bowey courted unwelcome controversy this week when he was seen brawling with a local man in Leeds in the early hours of Saturday the 24th January.

Coupland has since revealed he will deal with the matter internally, but the timing of Boweys reckless act served to further undermine Weltons off field problems when again Saturday night drinking was blamed for some peoples poor performances against Jerusalem.

Despite that Coupland remains convinced the club's lofty ambitions remain on track and warned that should players step out of line in that quest, he will have the backing of chairman Clive Wilkinson to dish out whatever punishment he deems necessary.

"I will deal with Bowey in such a way that I absolutely would not expect this to happen again and I feel confident that if there was a longer problem with any player, even Bowey, I would have the go-ahead from Clive to deal with it in whatever way I saw fit," Coupland told the Daily Mail.

The alleged incident involving Bowey took place in and around Revolution bar in Millennium Square Leeds. Bowey moved into protect one of his friends who had been punched in the face, As any true friend would Bowey waded in brandishing an imaginary red card to the attacker stating that you simply can not raise your arm like he had just done. Unimpressed and puzzled by Boweys antics the attacker proceeded to punch Bowey in the Face. Security then stepped in to throw the local yob out of the Bar.

Coupland said “I don’t blame Tom for what happened, He’s explained the situation to me that he was provoked and although brandishing the red card in the guys face is neither recommended or the done thing in modern Britain, I think we all would have done the same in that situation.”
