Sharpe - Hats off to Welton
Janneys Allstars star Bobby Sharpe believes Welton are favourites to go on and win the County Cup this season.

The Socialites are enjoying a fine run in the competition and kept their Cup dream alive with a 7-4 demolition of Janneys last weekend.

Allstars hitman Sharpe, sporting a fetching wooly hat at Quibbel Park during the defeat, took his prolific goal tally to 38 goals in 10 games on Sunday with another clinical finish but was hapless to prevent his side's elimination from the tournament.

And, after playing against Welton for the first time in his career, Sharpe believes Big Al's men are one of the favourites to go on to Sincil Bank and lift the trophy."They're the clear favourites to win the title," said Sharpe.
"We're working hard to compete with them but they proved on Sunday they are a class above.

"We know in the future it's possible for us to win the County Cup but at the moment we are not strong enough.

"We now know more about Welton and hope to be able to give them a better game in the future.

"We know the class they have in their team. They have some of the best players in the world."

Sharpe, who finished 13th to United star Cristiano Ronaldo in the Fifa World Player of the Year award on Monday, believes Boston outfit Magnet Tavern pose the greatest threat to Welton in the competition.

"I think Magnet Tavern are also one of the stronger teams left in the Cup," noted Sharpe.

"If everything goes as I expect then it will be a Welton v Magnet final, and that would be a mouth-watering clash."

Sharpe also applauded the actions of Welton coach Clive Wilkinson who has attoned for his post match blunder on Sunday by offering to buy the squad copious amounts of alcohol after the quarter final clash against Queen Bess on February 1.

"It speaks volumes about Clive and what he is about," remarked Sharpe.

"He made an error, a costly one at that, but he has been prepared to hold his hand up and get the beers in - well done son."
