Welton taking small steps to glory

Welton S&SC will carry on chasing progress in four competitions and try not to worry about winning the lot, according to Lee Coupland.

The Socialites have already booked a County Cup semi fianl appearance against The Auld South Yorkshire at the start of next month, and their win against Jerusalem a couple of weeks ago keeps them on course for Aprils double header with leaders Millers still well in the title race.

They also have a Kelly Read quarter final clash with Woodhall Spa to look forward to, although before that comes a game against Swan at the same stage of the Ron Eaglen cup with GE Millers laying in wait for the winners.

Yet as each game passes in a congested fixture list, so the murmurings of an unprecedented quadruple become louder, not that the Welton camp are paying any notice.

"Everybody wants the four trophies but it has never been done," reflected Big Al Taylors assistant Coupland.

"It is obviously difficult and we are just happy to be in it at the moment, getting nearer to the finishing line in every competition.

"The club has been built to sustain challenges in four competitions, so now we will look to the Ron Eaglen or Tower at the weekend and try to pick the right team for Sunday."

On the situation at the top of the premier league Coupland said

“It is hard to see anyone closing that gap”

yet Coupland is refusing to believe it is all over

"It is a race, that is the thing," he said. "they’ve still got to play us twice and Hunters will give them a game on Sunday.”

"If we train well and play well, pick the right team and the players do their jobs we have a good chance to capitalise."
