The full-back was helping his father cut wood on the defenders Lincolnshire estate when he dropped a log on his foot at first it was thought that little damage had been done but when the wood was eventually removed it was discovered that a poisonous black thorn had impaled Carters boot and foot.

Fortunately for Carter the thorn was able to be removed straight away but scans have revealed that there is still a piece of the spike in his foot that is too deep to remove.
Carters Farther Pete who witnessed the incident said .
"It was not a very nice incident to witness. It was a freak accident and I was pretty taken aback by it," Carter told the club's official website.
"There was a lot of blood and I was convinced he had broken his foot at first, he squealed that loudly, but when Will took a closer look it became apparent that he had been impaled.”
"I have ordered him to rest his foot for the rest of the week.”
“I can see him being available for Sunday although he can’t actually walk at the minute.”
Welton boss Al Taylor is very concerned about Carters freak injury,
"It's a real shame for the lad because he has been doing a great job for us in recent weeks, especially with so many other players out injured. We are all keeping our fingers crossed that he makes a speedy recovery."
“I’ve spoken to Will and the Clubs Doctors and all parties have assured me Will can be up and running again by Wednesday night where he is scheduled to make a guest appearance at the Engine shed when his close friend Coolio will be performing.”
