Purists round on cheating Bow

Once upon a time, the dark art of diving was anathema to the Welton footballer. He was no more likely to take a tumble than he was to wear lipstick on a lads' night out.

But times change. The increasing influence of Europe on this country has not just manifested itself in bruschetta and basil replacing white sliced and tomato sauce in cafes across the land.

No, the once-proud Welton footballer is now just as likely to fake a foul as your average Johnny Towny.

Want proof? Welton Reserves were outed as a team of divers on Sunday, after their Captain Tom Bowey twice dived to try and earn his side a penalty.

Fortunatley for the integrity of the game the match official was well aware of Boweys antics and booked the reserves skipper after his second theatrical fall making him the first player in Weltons illustrious history to be booked for diving.

Football purist and Welton legend Andy Ottewell was disgusted with Boweys actions.

“I’m disgusted.” Said Ottewell

“I never thought I would see the day when a Welton player would stoop so low as to deliberately try and con a match official.”

“It saddens me and I don’t know if I can forgive Tom for bringing such shame on the club I love.”

Boweys team mate and veteran Welton star James Mulhall was also quick to round on Bowey.

“He’s gone too far this time.” Said Mulhall

“He has brought shame on us all and we will now all be tarnished with the same brush.”

“There’s young kids coming through the ranks here and what sort of an example is that to set to them, He has made a mockery of the Club and brought shame on the armband I once treasured!”

Former wsscfc.blogspot.com columnist Richard Drabble was at the game and he too was sickened by the incident.

"I immediatley left the ground."

“I used the excuse that I had a Birthday party to go to I was that shocked.” Said Drabble

"There is no excuse for fans leaving early but when I see theatrics like that it is time to leave.” Said the John Stanham stand regular.

“I was thoroughly enjoying the game but Bowey’s actions left a real sour taste in my mouth, I couldn’t even enjoy strictly come dancing in the afternoon that I had recorded from the night before I was that angry.”
