Welton hitman Pete Sutton could find himself in the dole queue in the coming weeks after drunken antics saw him land in hot water with Pygott & Crone boss Ian Pygott.
Sutton was among four Welton stars who were guilty of overindulgence after celebrating their fine success over FSC Victory on Sunday evening.
Instead of arriving into the Pygott and Crone office at the scheduled work time of 8.15am, 25-year-old Sutton staggered into the office 15 minutes late, and as a result held up the obligatory Monday meeting. Pygott was left seething with his youthful employee and immediately summoned him to a day of leaflet dropping as a punishment for his unprofessional conduct.
The Sleaford salesman then found himself skating on even thinner ice when he admitted he may still be under the influence of alcohol, therefore not permitting him to drive a motor vehicle.
With Pygott clearly lost for words at the act of negligence and stupidity of Sutton, the well-respected company joint-owner is understood to have placed his disgraced employee on a one-week suspension while he contemplates his next move.
Welton’s victory on Sunday was certainly worth celebrating, but whether it warranted dancing on top of the bar at the Widdow Cullen’s Well with a man called Paul at 1am is another matter entirely.
The other Welton player’s thought to have been out with Sutton on his drunken rampage aren’t known, but one man who certainly wasn’t there was the reformed Jaz Dhindsa who instead opted to celebrate his solid defensive display by attending a local yoga class.
“Gone are the day’s where I would drink the day away after a gruelling home victory,” said Dhindsa.
“Nowadays, win, lose or draw I take time out at the local country retreat and take in a bit of ‘me time’ as I analyse my morning’s performance.
"I have heard about Sutton’s antics and it doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. I just hope he realises that there are other ways to bask in victory, and if he needs any advice he knows where I am.”
