Taylor hails 'so special' Scotty

Scott Coupland fired his way back onto the Welton stage with the sort of display that Coupland scored the opener at Rustons last week to set Welton on their way to a 3 0 victory.
The 3-0 victory at RMSC saw last season top scorer Coupland finally shrug off the months of worry and pain he has endured from a nagging holiday problem.
This has hardly been the perfect start, personally, to the campaign for Coupland and he is still nowhere near peak fitness.

It has been a tough few months for the 22-year-old, who knew he had to go on holiday even at the end of last season.

It flared up during the summer, disrupting his pre-season work, and forced him out of the two Premier league openers.

It is not how he would have wanted to start the campaign with unbeaten Welton, but he seems back on track now having reached 43 career goals for the club in the north of Lincoln.

Taylor explained: "The game was another example of the influence Scotty has on our team, he is so special.

"To score like that, when you have only just come back from holiday shows just how important he is to us.

"But it was not just Scotty. It was a very sound team performance, everyone worked so hard, and that is what pleased me most.

"But he showed that he can change games on his own. He can improve, and he knows it, following the holiday.

"But his impact was the most positive thing from the game. His goal was crucial and it altered the course of the match.
"You may not see many such goals but a goals a goal."

Taylor now knows victory in their next league match at home to Tower, will send Welton 9 points clear of GE Millers

The Scotsman added: "If we can win at home against Tower it will be good for our confidence

Coupland wasn’t modest about the quality of his first-half equaliser but his colleagues saw things differently.

Defender Jaz Dhindsa said: "It was a crap goal, but that is what Scotty can do for us. He gambled and it payed off"

Midfielder Tom Wilkinson added: "It is always good to have Scotty in the side because he can make things happen. He is a special player, a great help to us all having him around.

"We are a team, not just about one player. But you have to accept how important he is to Welton because of the performance and the goals he gets.

"Scotty is very important in every game, he is fantastic to have in the team.

"It is clear to everybody just how important it is to have him in our side.

"In the league next it is Tower at home for us, and being a former pro I know a good deal about them and they could be a lot more difficult than people expect.

"But if we can win that we will be really positive for us going into our break

"So to win at Rustons against a difficult side, and that following our win over Victory, has given us all plenty of confidence.

Boss Taylor went onto say.

"We have not lost this season and our confidence is improving with every game. We have got some new players, and we are building a different team. When everyone starts to understand exactly what is required of them, we will be capable of going on a very long unbeaten run.

"That will improve our chances in the league and in the cups. It is slowly coming together, bit by bit."

Taylor added: "It was important to get the three points on a very difficult pitch to play on, against a very good side.

"Throughout the team you could see how well we have started the season and how together everyone is. There is character, confidence and a strong mentality already.

"But we are aware we have only just started. There is much to do, much to improve, but it has been a very good beginning for us.
