Welton aim to build a TOWERing lead at the top

Welton go into Sundays Sills and Betteridge Premier League Clash with Tower Athletic looking to make it 4 wins out of 4. If this happens then Welton will maintain pole position ahead of Claytons and open up a 9 point gap between them and GE Millers who are fixtureless for the 3rd weekend in a row. Once again Welton boss Taylor will be forced to ring the changes as goalkeeper Rick Osiah and midfielder Sam Gordon are both unavailable for selection. Speaking to the Welton news Al Taylor had this to say.

“Obviously losing Rick will be a big loss as he has been superb so far this season but Mayhem will come in and do a decent job for us. Mayhem is a quality keeper and I know that he will not let me down.”

The Goalkeeping headache is not Taylors biggest problem as bringing in Mayhem is an obvious swap but it is who plays on the right hand side of midfield that is more intriguing. Taylor is able to call upon midfielder Craig Cosgrove for the first time this season on Sunday and James Drabble will be knocking on the managers door hoping to regain his place up top.

“There’s a number of options open to me on Sunday regarding the midfield” said Taylor.

“I want to cause as little disruption to the team as possible and to do that bringing Craig in for Sam is the obvious one. Craig could also go in the middle and Tom Wilko could play on the right which is a position I know he used to play at Lincoln, I also have the option of bringing Ronnie back in up front and dropping Scotty or Pete back into midfield or I could throw Ronnie up top and play with three up top. It is a good problem to have.”

Taylor has no such worries about his defence for Sunday as Carter, Snookes and Dhindsa are all fit and available on Sunday, Taylor also has son Ross available again but Rossco is unlikely to be risked as Welton have no fixture the following Sunday due to Travellers Rests expulsion from the league for failing to follow administration rules.

“It would be daft to risk Rossco this week” said Taylor

“The team are going away next weekend on a training camp in York so he might as well sit this one out then after the break he will be at 100% for the European game against Fairdeal Carpets. My Back three at the minute are playing absolutely brilliantly and they are the first three names on my team sheet, but having Rossco available again will keep them on their toes.” Taylor told the Welton news.

If Welton are victorious on Sunday it will be the Socials best start to a league campaign for 87 years and will mean they can enjoy their training camp in York knowing that the pressure is firmly on the other teams to catch them up. Tower are no pushovers though and Welton will need to be at their very best again to come away with the three points they desire.
