New kit revealed

Welton S&SC’s new home kit for the 2010/11 season, designed by new kit supplier Nike have been leaked on the internet.

The images appear to show the new design for the Socialites attire next season - which will be the first kit supplied by Nike for four years.

A spokes person for the Welton Club Shop issued this statement.

"An eagle eyed supporter snapped a picture of the new shirt and the image has spread like wild fire all over the internet."

"We were re arranging the retro section of the shop to make room for the new kit next season but a member of staff had obviously left one of the new shirts out on the rack."

The kit will have the same blue and white stripes that adorns the team's current home shirt, which met with a good reaction from fans when they were first released.

The shirt also features the club badge on the upper left of the shirt on a plain background.

The official launch of the shirts is not expected to be until next week, when the club will officially release the design to coincide with their County Cup clash with FVA Jerusalem.

But the images, which show the prototype shirts complete with official Nike tags, appear to have given supporters a sneak preview.

Al: More to come from Socialites

Welton boss Al Taylor insists his side can improve on their performance in Sunday's 3-1 Derby victory over Nettleham.

The Socialites picked up their first win of the season thanks to an own goal one from Sam almond and Jason Tinklers first goal for the Club. However, Taylor believes his side are nowhere near the finished article.

"We still have a lot of work to do on how we play both with and without the ball," Taylor told the club's official website.

"Jerusalem will be a very very tough test because they are a decent team and Skellingthorpe is a hard place to go, they play very fast, flowing football and they are very good so I'm very much looking forward to it.

"I think tough games are extremely important though because you need some adversity, some bad things to happen so that you can grow from it.

"As long as we don't think we are the finished product because we are absolutely nowhere near it at the moment but it's nice to get a win through organisation and everybody knows now that it's back to work again."

WAGS PROFILE SPECIAL!!!!!!

Sunday, 22 August 2010

Nettles can't handle the club right now.

Welton showed signs of a pre season rally at Social Park on Sunday morning by defeating neighbours Nettleham 3-1. Jason Tinkler gave Social a 1-0 lead before former Social Park darling Joe Drabble equalised. Relentless pressure in the second half forced Welton back in front before Sam Allmond grabbed a superb third to get Social back to winning ways.

Again it was all change for Welton as Luke Clifford started in goal protected by Carter, Snookes, Warman and Taylor. With Clifford in goal Craig Cosgrove started on the left with, Sam Allmond, Jack Mcgovern and Jason Tinkler completing the midfield quartet. Scott Coupland joined Billy Munro up front.

Welton started far better than they had in previous weeks playing some lovely intricate football but still lacking a cutting edge of old. The opening goal came half an hour in when Welton sprung a perfect counter attack.

Welton had resisted a short period of Nettleham pressure and cleared a left wing corner to Jack McGovern who played the ball forward to Billy Munro, Munro slid a perfect through ball for the impressive Jason Tinkler who took the ball in his stride and drilled home low across the Nettleham keeper to give Welton the lead.

A huge away following at Social Park were pleased though as their young side thought back through former Social Park favourite Joe Drabble. Drabble roared on by father Richard and Yorkshire Socialite Carena Fullerton finished with aplomb after being sent through by Callum Pearse despite there being more than a slight suspicion of off side.

Drabble chipped home delightfully but respectfully refused to celebrate in front of the John stanham stand that once so loyally chanted his name.

HALF TIME WELTON 1-1 NETTLEHAM

Welton continued to pass and probe to try and recapture the lead playing some wonderful football that just lacked a cutting edge at times and it was eventually left to one of the Nettleham centre backs to put through his own net under relentless pressure to give the Socialites a deserved lead.

Welton created a host of other chances with arguably the pick of the bunch again falling to Will Carter who blazed hopelessly over from ten yards out after being picked out by substitute Nigel Wallace, much to the amusement of local game keeper Stewart "Jessy" Aisthorpe.

Welton eventually made the game safe with a superb third goal when Jason Tinkler played the ball back for Jack Mcgovern who lofted a delightful ball to the back post for Wallace who headed perfectly into the stride of Sam Allmond who finished well under pressure from the Nettles goalkeeper.

All in all a much improved and solid looking performance from the Socialites and it still looks like there is more to come from Big Als men with Jerusalem just two weeks away.

Drabble ready for Welton backlash

Nettleham defender Jonny Drabble says he and his Nettleham team mates should expect a backlash from Welton this weekend.

It is well documented that Welton are having problems geling their new players and results so far have reflected that but Drabble believes this makes Welton even more dangerous at the weekend.

“They’ve been having a tough time of it at the minute.” Said Drabble

“The players they have at Social Park are all top quality players though and when they do get it right it will be bad for who ever they are playing.”

“Some would say it is a good time to play them but I feel that they may be even more determined to right the wrongs of recent weekends against us on Sunday morning.

Drabble, the younger Brother of former Social Park favourite Joe Drabble and current cult hero James Drabble also said it is a dream come true to finally grace the hallowed Social Park turf.

“I’ve played against Welton twice in my career but never at Social Park.” Explained Drabble.

“The two times we have met have both been Semi Finals at Mulsanne park which obviously are bigger occasions than a pre season friendly.”

“The fact that the game is at Social Park makes it more significant for me.”

“Social Park is a ground I have visited on many occasions to watch my Brothers over the Years and it is always a fantastic atmosphere down there.”

“I am sure it will be a great game and I hope to put on a show for our travelling supporters and I believe I will make a huge impact in the bar after the final whistle regardless of the result."

Lurchy’s Tips

Hello everyone and welcome along to an overdue addition of Lurchy’s Tips ahead of an extra special sporting weekend. The domestic football season is back in full swing and I for one am like Will Carter in a bath of Gaymers (in my element). Copious amounts of ale to be drank after the final whistle – Betting suspended.

Angered Andrews resigns

Local entrepreneur and WAGS favourite uncle, Tommy Andrews, has handed in his resignation as the doctor and sugar daddy sponsor of the Welton S&SC Reserves.

A source close to the handsome lithe figured and much loved ladies favourite says he is devastated by the managements failure to strengthen the team.

Andrews described a Bellamyesque scenario for the Reserve team,

“management duo and party poopers Schaer and Daly have spurned the chance to secure the signature of a certain midfield maestro who has in retaliation signed for Adelaide,” said Andrews

“A premier League team nontheless, but he is not good enough for the reserves?”

“How can this happen?”

Andrews has also promised to blow the lid off all sorts of goings on behind the scenes for the reserves in the coming weeks.

Reserves Roll Over Bass

Basingham v Welton S&SC Reserves

The Reserves latest pre-season outing saw them take the trip to Division 1 side Bassingham. After a bright start Welton took the lead inside 5 minutes. They soon added a second, before Bassingham managed to pull one back. The rest of the game continued at a canter for the Reserves who easily by-passed their opposition with some slick football. The pick of the goals coming from young Steve Smith.
Full Time – Bassingham 1 Welton 10 (we think, but could be 12)

Wilkinson – 7 – Literally had nothing to do.
Brooks – 7 – Offered extra width down the right.
Mulhall – 7 – Captains role.
Jones – 7 – Little to do but there when needed.
Carlile – 7 – Rarely tested, left the game after a horror challenge after 70 mins.
Bierdy – 8 – A good display capped with two goals.
Sawyer – 8 – Two goals for the midfield man.
Cooper – 7 – Got a good run out, plenty of life left in them legs.
Munn – 10 – Flawless, 2 goals and ran the show. Munn of old.
Ottewell – 9 – A constant thorn in the right backs side, on the score sheet too.
Mitch – 8 – Played the lone man well in the absence of Ronnie and scored.

Gibson – 7 – Slotted into the untested back 4.
Smith – 8 – Scored twice, one which will see early retirement.
???????
Schaer – 7 – Came on for Carlile, missed an open goal.

no concerns for Coupland

Welton midfielder Scott Coupland is not worried about the club's start to the new season.

The Socialites have yet to record a win in their opening two fixtures of the campaign and have suffered defeats to Lincoln United reserves and Plough Skellingthorpe.

HoweverAl Taylors men’s picked second half fightback on Sunday is a huge step in the right direction and Coupland is convinced that Welton will continue to improve.

"There is no panic, that is the message," Coupland told the Welton News.

"There are 2 games left to get ourselves in shape and nobody is worried that we have not won either of the first two games.

"Performances have been ok and anyone who watched the game will know what we can do.

We just need to keep going; if we have a bit more luck things will change for us.

"We have had massive chances in the first games, which shows that we are doing something right. And that will change as well, because we have players here who can score goals, not just up front, but in midfield as well. We are not worried about that, there is no panic here."

“It might take the new lads a while to bed in but they definatley will improve us.”

Taylor: No need to panic

Welton S&SC manager Al Taylor does not feel under any extra pressure after seeing his side lose their opening two games of pre season.

Welton went down 3-2 to Lincoln United Reserves in their opening game and were beaten 4-3 by Plough Skellingtghorpe at the weekend despite Will Carters goal, but Taylor is not about to panic.

He said: "There's pressure every week on managers and players, nothing changes. What you have got to do is keep calm, keep believing in what you are doing and keep encouraging the players to do the right things and play our football.

"I've said all along that when you don't create chances and don't come out of games with many positives to look at then you start to concern yourself.

"I said last year that we started the season with just one win in three league games that we were doing the right things and it was only a matter of time and I'll say the same thing again.

"With the two performances we've lost two games that we should have won when you look at the way we played. We’ve not created as many chances as we would have like and defensively we’ve been a bit suspect at times, but there have been lots of positives."

“We’ve introduced 6 new players over the course of the two games and you expect there to be problems to start off with when you have that many new players coming in.”

“We’ve got two more games to try and find the right formation and right line up before we face Jerusalem and I’m sure it is only a matter of time before things click for us.”

Lurch is back

Nettleham striker Joe Drabble says he will NOT celebrate if he scores against Welton in Sundays pre season friendly.

Drabble, who has made a mockery of Weltons decision not to renew his contract in the summer of 2008 by Scoring a hatful of goals for Nettleham last term, said he will not celebrate if he scores against his old club on Sunday.

"It's normal for me to celebrate a goal, but if I score I will do so with respect to my opponents," Drabble told Sky Sports News. "I still respect the Welton fans and I hope they know that.

"I still have friends in the Welton squad. That's never changed just because I now play for their local rivals.

"I can't wait to get back out onto Social Park, It will be very emotional for me and it will bring back a lot of fantastic memories."

"I don't think anyone could doubt my commitment maybe they could my work-rate but for the most part I gave my all for Welton in my two years there.

"For me it's always a great game to play against Welton as they're one of the best clubs around. But I'm with Nettleham now and I dream of winning derbies for them."

Drabble will be hoping for a similar ending to the game as when he scored the winner in the famous Christmas Welton 5 Golden eagle 4 game.

Welton S&SC V Nettleham Sunday 22nd August 2010 Social Park Welton Kick off 10:45

Skelly Plough through sorry Social

Weltons alarming pre season form continued on Sunday when they were beaten 4-3 at Social Park by Plough skellingthorpe. A disasterous first half saw Welton go in at half time 3-0 down. Welton fell further behind straight after half time before goals from Sam Allmond a collectors item from Will Carter and Luke Clifford dragged Welton back into the game but Welton couldn’t manage to grab an equaliser leaving Welton manager Al Taylor with plenty to think about with the new season just weeks away.

Welton handed debuts to Craig Turner, Joe Butler, Jack Mcgovern and Jason Tinkler. Sam Allmond and Luke Clifford also made their first appearances of the season.

Welton played like strangers in the first half and were punished for some terrible defensive errors as Martin Goldacre helped himself to two goals and former Welton Captain Neil stocks bundled home a third on his return to Social Park.

Without playing anywhere near well enough Welton did manage to create a few chances and came close when Jason Tinkler hit the cross bar.

Half time Welton 0-3 Plough skellingthorpe

Welton returned for the second half with stinging yet justifiable criticism still ringing in their ears but in the opening moments of the second half they found themselves 4 down when Will Carters slack pass was picked off and Ploughs pacey forward was sent through to finish well past Turner despite a hint of off side.

This seemed to shock Welton into life and Sam Allmond soon registered Weltons first goal of the morning curling in a superb strike from the edge of the area in off the post leaving goalkeeper Rick Duffin with no chance.

Welton were now playing much better and soon grabbed another from a very unlikely source.

Neat play in the middle saw the ball work its way out to Joe Butler on the left wing. Butler looked up to pick out Will Carter who had made a tremendous late run to the back post. Butler crossed perfectly and Carter made no mistake powering home a firm header past Duffin to reduce the deficit and give the Welton full back his first goal for a quarter of a decade.

Minutes later Scott Coupland created a good chance for Butler to grab a goal on his debut but the pacey wide man chipped just over, Billy Munro also had a good chance before Luke Clifford made it 4-3

Good play down the right between Will carter and Jason Tinkler saw the latter deliver a perfect cross for Clifford who volleyed home at the far post.

Welton continued to press for an equaliser but ran out of time meaning their pre season record is now played 2 lost 2 but Big Al will take plenty of heart from a much improved second half display.

Premier predictions

With the Premier League kicking off again in a couple of weeks, The editor gives us his predictions for 2010/11 season.

Editors predictions:

Premier League top six: FSC Victory, Welton S&SC, Adelaide, FVA Jerusalem, Swan Athletic, Hunters Leap

I think we'll see the tightest title race ever this season with the two Rustons teams going bankrupt and any one from Welton, Victory, Adelaide, Jerusalem or Swan Athletic could come out on top. Don't completely rule out Hunters either. Welton, Victory and Adelaide have all spent plenty of money over the Summer so it could all depend on how quickly each teams new signings settle in.

Leading PL scorer: Scott Coupland.

Should have won the Golden boot last Year had it not been for a counting error but with Weltons wealth of new midfield and attacking options to link up with, Coupland will surely be amongst the goals again this Season. Billy Munro could also flourish with the extra quality Welton have brought in this Season, Don’t rule out Martin Goldacre for Adelaide though.

First PL manager to be sacked: Stephen Holman.

Expectations are high at Scothern after last season's success but I think Scothern will struggle to repeat that and Holman could pay the price early on.

Ron Eaglen Cup winners: any of the PL top six.

Welton will be looking to improve on last Years Ron Eaglen campaign and have a decent draw to start off with this term but it very much depends which team gets the favourable draw throughout. In the last two Seasons it has been the beaten finalists from the previous Season lifting the famous trophy so could it be Hunters Leap’s turn this time round?

Kelly Read Cup winners: Welton S&SC.

Again depending on the draw Welton will be looking to retain for the third season in a row, But Jerusalem, Hunters Leap and Scothern United will all fancy their chances aswell.

County Cup winners: ?

Very difficult to predict such is the strength of the Grimsby and Scunthorpe Leagues. Welton have flown the flag for Lincoln and been the last local team standing the last two seasons but they will need a kinder draw later on should they manage to get past Jerusalem in the opening game of the season.

Snookes expects Social title challenge

Joe Snookes believes Welton are genuine contenders for the Premier League title ahead of the start of the new season. The solid defender thinks a busy Summer in the transfer market means Welton are now in a position to take a giant leap forward.

Manager Al Taylor has invested heavily in the squad this summer, bringing in Jason Tinkler, Oli Furness, Jack Mcgovern, Joe Butler, Craig Turner and he is still pursuing Nigel Wallace.

As a result Snookes expects this season's championship battle to be a five-way race between The Socialites, FSC Victory, Adelaide, Jerusalem and Swan Athletic.

"I can say for certain that the winner will be one of these teams," said the pygott and crone employee.

"Our aim should be to improve bit by bit, but we know we must fight for the title.

"The same teams will be there and even though we have brought in new players, other clubs will match us.

"We are right up there with them. We have strengthened and we are stronger.

"There is no great difference between all the top teams now with GE Rustons dispanding.

"We'll see whether we are good enough. I hope we improve on last season and can challenge for the title right to the end. That's what we want.

"But the first challenge is to qualify for the first round proper of The County Cup by beating Jerusalem."

My best is yet to come - Munro

Welton centre forward Billy Munro has warned the rest of the Premier League that they have yet to see him at his best.

While Munro accepts the Welton squad - many of whom have just returned to training still have some work to do in terms of reaching full match fitness and geling as a team, the 22-year-old feels he is now completely comfortable at Social Park.

"It was hard joining mid way through last season, it was difficult sometimes for me to play some games. I also had to miss some training sessions.

"Now I am really happy because I feel as though my place in the team is settled and I can enjoy my football."

Munro, who joined Welton in the January transfer window from Plough Boy, continued: "I learned how to play with my new team mates, how to deal with the pressure of the Premier League.

"Sometimes last year I needed some extra motivation to play but now I feel motivated within myself. It is a good feeling.

"I had to adapt my game to it, so now maybe I will have to change my game again.

"I don't know if I can do better than last year, but the thing is I will feel better, more free in my movements on the pitch.

"I will feel much better and will be happy to have the same season as last year."

Drabble to miss start of season

Welton striker James Drabble has been ruled out for at least 6 weeks after x rays revealed he has broken his jaw whilst playing in goal for the first team after a Heinous elbow from a Lincoln United defender.

“James has been told he will be out for at least 6 weeks so he will definitely miss the start of the season” said reserve manager Mark Daly.

“It was a deliberate elbow, everyone was there could see that but as it’s a friendly nothing will be done about it.”

“It’s a nasty one for James and it really hampers our preparation for the upcoming season.” Said Daly

Drabble finished overall top scorer from all 6 Divisions last year and his goals propelled Welton Reserves to promotion to Division 3 will be sorely missed by the Reserves as they look to win promotion for the third Season in a row.

“He’ll be difficult to replace.” Said Daly

“We just have to hope that he heels up as quickly as possible so we can get him back into the team at the earliest possible chance.”

Drabble though was in good spirits when we caught up with him.

"There's no point dwelling on it." said Drabble

"I can still manage to sink a pint so that cushions the blow a bit I suppose."

The Cat gets the cream

Will ‘The cat’ Carter has sparked huge speculation that the consortium Cat and mole that he created with James Mulhall may dispand after he incredibly scooped the open the box jackpot again.

Carter branded Mulhall who is currently holidaying in warmer climes “a hindrance”.

“I do all the work in this syndicate! It’s my ticket that gets drawn out every week and its me that goes up and uses my skill and judgement to select which key I can use to collect the loot.”

Carters astonishing run of good fortune shocked everyone in attendance in the Players lounge at Social Park and again vicious whispers of a fix started to circulate around the bar.

“It’s ridiculous!” said Tid

“He’s won the bugger 5 times now and last night my wife even told him what number to pick. I am shocked to my very core.”

Mulhall who as of yet has been unavailable for comment must surely be furious with his fortunate partner after the duo’s syndicate were drawn out to open the same box three weeks ago only for carter to select the wrong key which Carter admits he did to build the jackpot up and pick his moment to pounce on the box when the Mole was out of the Country.

“I’ll admit it. I fixed it the other Week.” laughed Carter

“I knew that it couldn’t be the same key four times in a row so I sold the Mole down the river.”

“When it comes to selecting the correct key I am the master and I never get it wrong, which I think you will find is a fact!”

“I’m sick of that leach sponging off me.” Said Carter

“My winnings would be nearer two grand if it wasn’t for him!”

“I would also like to wish the Mole a very enjoyable Holiday.”
Worrying times for Cat and Mole

Drabble: I'll be ready

James Drabble vowed to bounce back from his calamitous error that handed Lincoln United an equaliser in Wednesday nights friendly at Social Park. Drabble who was chosen ahead of absent pair Craig Turner and Matt Wilkinson said there was no excuse for letting Aaron Murphy’s tame 75th-minute shot squirm out of his hands.

"he’s hit one and it's one I should have saved," Drabble said. "Full stop. It's very disappointing, but it's happened. The most important thing is not to let it affect myself."

Drabble who has already been given the nickname butterfingers will more than likely be forgiven by the Welton faithful as it has emerged that he played for over an hour with a fractured jaw after a reckless first half elbow from notorious centre half Stokes.

Drabble, who appeared shaken by the injury at first recovered to make two good saves in the second half, said he had to be mentally strong to bounce back.

"I had 60-odd minutes to play in the game and represent my club and I did that. I didn't let if affect me although it felt like I had been pump kicked by sheamus,"

Reflecting on his error, he said: "It won't affect me psychologically. I'm 26, I'm a man and you have hardships in life and prepare for them. I'm strong enough to move on. At a younger point in my life it would have affected me more."

Drabble is the latest Welton goalkeeper to suffer a glaring lapse of concentration, and one man who was pleased to see the ball riggle from drabbles grasp was will ‘the Cat’ Carter whos famous blunder against Wragby has never been laid to rest by many at social Park.

“I did laugh when it went in.” said Carter

“He looked like a real pratt.”

“I do have some sympathy for him though as a similar incident happened to me many Years ago. I’d say James’s gaff was worse than mine though.”

“I cant be to harsh on him though as he did have quite a good game and to play on with his injury took some bottle.

Drabble insisted he wouldn’t shirk the opportunity to play in goal should he be asked to don the number 1 jersey again.

“I’ll be ready, Whenever you need me, No don’t you fear cause I'll be ready to be your number 1.”

"I believe that in me I have the power to overcome this."

"instinct is stronger than reason, It's just human nature to me and I will play whenever I am asked."

"forever and always, I'm always here!" Was Drabbles message to the Welton management team.

Taylor: Jerusalem is just another Game!

Welton Manager Al Taylor says that being drawn in the County Cup preliminary Round again is inconvenient but not a disaster.

Taylors Welton have been drawn away to FVA Jerusalem the side that Welton beat in the Kelly Read Cup final at Sincil Bank on the final day of last Season. This means that this fixture is now Weltons first game of the Season instead of Metheringham at Home in the League.

“It’s not ideal.” Said Taylor

“It’s not the best of draws because when you eneter the County Cup you always look for a home draw or failing that if you’re away from home you want to be going to Grimsby or Scunthorpe.”

“We know Jerusalem well and we know they are a good team and I shouldn’t think they’re all that thrilled with the draw either.

Taylor believes that the fact that this will be the first competitive game for both sides since the infamous Cup Final will not have any bearing for Weltons players.

“It might be an issue for them wanting revenge for the final but to us it is just another Game.”

“We know they will be gunning for us and we expect a tough game but it is a game we are looking forward to.”

Plenty of positives for Taylor

Boss Al Taylor described Weltons first pre season run-out against Lincoln United reserves as a useful exercise despite the 3-2 defeat at social Park.

A much changed Social side from the team that lifted the Kelly Read Cup in May raced in to a two goal lead when Nigel Wallace chipped home Scott Couplands through ball before an excellent passing move saw Billy Munro turn brilliantly on the edge of the area before drilling low past Craig Turner.

Sean Booth pulled a Goal back for the reserves before half time but Social went in at the break with the lead and having passed their opponents off the park at times.

Fitness would eventually tell though as the United Reserves chopped and changed their team on numerous occasions whilst the depleted Social ranks struggled on in a second half 3-5-2 formation that saw Jamie Chesman make his return from injury.

Social were solid enough and kept possession reasonably well at the back but struggled to get into the right areas of the pitch with new boys Oli Furness and Nigel Wallace both forced back due to the switch in formation.

Welton held firm until the 75th Minute when the previously impressive Drabble in Goal had a moment to forget fumbling a tame effort from a United midfielder through his legs and into his net.

Social looked tired at this point and United punished them late on with a far post header from one of their numerous Substitutes to give them the win.

“There’s a lot we can take out of that game.” Said Taylor

“We matched them and were probably better than them in the first half and maybe our change in system didn’t help us in the second half, but that’s what friendly matches are for.”

“Ches (Jamie chesman) got 45 minutes under his belt and the two new Lads looked sharp in the first half.”

“It was a great run out for the lads and the ninety minutes they played can only help.”

“We’ve still got a lot of Players to come in which will only improve us further.”

BREAKING NEWS

Welton S&SC have been drawn away at FVA JErusalem in the County Cup firts ROund in a re run of last Years Kelly Read Cup Final. MORE TO FOLLOW

Drabble will stand in for Socialites

forward James Drabble will be in Goal for weltons first pre season friendly this evening when Welton entertain Lincoln United Reserves.

With Matt Wilkinson and craig turner unavailable still Social boss Al Taylor wants Drabble to deputise in goal and maintain his emmaculate record of three wins out of three whilst wearing the traffic cone.

Craig is unavailable this evening and Mayhem has work commitments but we have a great player to fill this position in the form of Chris Cohen.

"He gets paid to play for Welton and he will be playing in Goal. He has played in goal before and I have complete faith in him.

"I have spoken to him about it and he does understand. There is a lack of players in that position this evening. These are the resources we have, this is the situation we are in and he will have to play there."

Welton are expected to hand debuts to a couple of their Summer signings this evening with Jason Tinkler and Oli Furness both expected to be in the Socials starting line up.

Socialites up the ante for unnamed striker

Welton chairman Clive Wilkinson has confirmed that the club has increased their bid for an unnamed striker.

Welton have already stunned the footballing World with the signings of Jason Tinkler, oli furness, Joe buttler, Craig turner and there latest marquee signing Jack McGovern but Wilkinson has confirmed that Welton are chasing one final signing.

Wilkinson told the Daily Telegraph: "We have made an improved offer for a player and are waiting to hear the outcome of it. Negotiations will be ongoing this week."

"Alot of people have been surprised with the amount of signings we have already made but I am trying to give Al (Taylor) all the tools he needs to mount a serious push for silverware this Season."

Meanwhile, Welton boss al Taylor has dismissed speculation that new goalkeeper craig turner is considering buying out his contract and immediately moving away from social Park before he has even caught a ball.

“There is absolutely no truth in the rumour.” Said Taylor

“I’ve spoken to him and he is excited and looking forward to playing for Welton S&SC.”

Big Ron bites back at jibes

James drabble has labelled criticism of his physical condition "idiotic" and "pathetic" - and vowed to be fully fit "in three or four weeks".

The 26-year-old centre forward was labelled "faggot" on popular social networking site Facebook after the publication of a less-than-flattering photograph over the weekend. (see below)

Drabble accepts he has work to do but claims his current state is no cause for concern.

"It's pathetic," he told wsscfc.blogspot.com of the abuse.

"I accept that the picture wasn't flattering, and I do need to catch up on my level of fitness, but the pictures of everyone were not very flattering and showed up all sorts of things.

"My message is simple to all the knockers: I am knuckling down and want to play my football with a great club and a great manager. Then you can judge me."

Jack's the lad for Big Al

Welton have completed the sensational signing of Free agent Jack McGovern.

The 21-year-old was out of contract after the collapse of GE Rustons and Welton Manager Big Al Taylor has sealed a bumper deal to make Mcgovern the highest paid midfielder in the premier League.

Mcgovern become Weltons 5th huge summer signing following the arrivals of Jason Tinkler, Oli furness, Joe Butler and Craig Turner.

Mcgovern had courted interest from many of Weltons Premier League rivals, but the socialites emerged as Mcgoverns preferred destination.

"At this stage of my career I couldn't have wished for a better move," said the former GE Rustons skipper.

"To join a club such as Welton S&SC, with its proud tradition, heritage and magnificent support is absolutely tremendous for me.

"I just want to play and can't wait to get started.

"There's a real buzz about the place and that's great.

"I've played at Social Park numerous times and always found it a fantastic place to play, there's always a tremendous atmosphere.

"Big Al will focus everyone together and get them ready for the season."

Taylor was delighted to secure the services of Mcgovern,

"I have watched Jack for a number of Seasons now and am fully aware of what he has to offer," Taylor added.

"That is, quality, calm assurance and leadership.

"He's a real professional, a terrific addition to the squad and I look forward to working with him.”

McGovern is expected to make his Welton Debut next Sunday when Welton entertain Plough skellingthorpe.

Coupland raring to go again with Social

Scott Coupland is relishing being back at Welton following his summer break, and expects to win more silverware.

Coupland picked up both of Weltons Player of the Season awards at the weekend and is gunning for more homours this Season.

Coupland, who has started his pre-season preparation following three weeks off after his exhausting campaign last season joins his team-mates on Wednesday for The Socialites high profile friendly with Lincoln united reserves.

And the 24-year-old, who arrived at Social Park in 2007, has enjoyed linking back up with his colleagues in training following the clubs Kelly Read cup success last Season.

"We haven't been with the team for two-and-a-half months so you long to come back and catch up with the other players," Coupland told Weltons official website.

"After we won the Cup, we never really got the time to be together as it was so late when the game finished so we didn't have the time to enjoy more the winning so it's good to be back with the players."

Coupland believes Welton have a squad more than capable of challenging for the League this term as they look to complete their domestic silverware collection.

He added: "I believe that it can be a great season for us again if we can keep everyone fit; we have the team to do better than last year by winning the League and Ron Eaglen because it's very important everyone is hoping that the club win that trophy."

The forward, who netted 43 goals last season, is looking to better his scoring rate as well as establishing himself as a regular starter this term.

"I want to score more goals than last year, between 40 and 50, and I think my personal goal is to be an important player for the team like last season and to continue at that level and play well for the team," he said.

Coupland hopes to be dancing around the opposition again this season.

Holy Moley, what an evening

Weltons Players and supporters were once again treated to a truly memorable Presentation Evening at the Ottewells Dunholme estate. A tremendous Live set from Chart toppers ‘Just for Kicks’ capped off a superb evening where Scott Coupland was the big winner of the night scooping both the Players Player of the Season and Managers player of the Season awards for the First Team.

The first award of the night to be presented by Helen Alexander saw Will Carter pick up the first Teams Clubman of the season award. Manager Al Taylor highlighted Carters commitment to the Club and his tireless work on popular website www.wsscfc.blogspot.com .

Few in attendance were surprised with the winner of the next two awards when Scott Coupland’s virtuoso season was rewarded with the Managers Player of the Season award and couplands fellow players also voted him as there Player of the Season.

Coupland has now won the Players Player award for the third consecutive season and you wouldn’t bet against him winning it again next Year.

Weltons Management team of Al Taylor, Lee coupland, Mack Sawyer and John Stanham were thanked by last Seasons Captain Neil Stocks with very questionable gifts.

The Reserve Team awards were far more up in the air than the first teams with a whole number of players in contention for the Top awards with Bradley Brookes backing himself as favourite for all three prizes.

To Brookes’s astonishment though it was Gary evans who picked up the Clubman award from Management duo Mark Daly and Paul Schaer. Just reward for his excellent commitment both on and off the field.

If Bradley Brookes was taken back by that then the nerves must have really been starting to set in as the second award of the evening once again didn’t come his way.

The Division 4 Champions voted veteran midfielder Lee Cooper there players player of the Season for bringing his vast experience and calming influence on a very young Reserve side.

Brookes shock at seeing the first two awards not come his way though soon turned to joy when just as he expected he was awarded Mark daly and Paul Schaers Managers Player of the season award.

Daly concluded the presentations with his controversial red card award highlighting the misdemeanours of many Social players including Dan carlile, Scott Coupland and Mr and Mrs Alex Munn. The award however went once again to Lee Coupland for seeing red in a game early on in the campaign for stamping on a Heighington opponent.

From then on in the evenings proceedings took a rather more unsophisticated turn as Just for Kicks took over playing long into the night as mass debauchery ensued and Moley Moley took centre stage.
